My surgeon said Whey for men and Soy for women.
  2. I haven't minded most of the preliminary testing and evaluations. I understand the nutrition eval. I understand the psych eval. But the 6 month doctor approved diet is silly, in my view. Look, we all are considering lap band partly because we have dieted for years, only to put the weight back on. Whats more, if I am even remotely successful at dieting, I could disqualify myself for insurance coverage. My bmi qualifies now, but what if I improve it during the diet? Will I be denied?

    Celebrate!

I am probably six months away from my surgery due to the insurance diet and I will be 48 years old once I have it done. I hope and pray I can say that I am 60 pounds lighter (or even 80-100 pounds) when I turn 50. Congratulations.
  4. I am in a similar situation. I am a 35 bmi with comorbids but I'm afraid I might pre-diet myself out of qualifying for the band. The insurance lady at my surgeon's office told me to do the doctor supervised diet, jump through the hoops - but just make sure NOT to lose any weight. They don't care if you are successful with the diet, they only ask that you do it.
  5. I'm in the same boat. My surgeon's insurance corrdinator told me to pre diet for six months, but to make sure I didn't lose any weight. I'll tell you what they told me. Just jump through the hoops, go on the doctor supervised diet, but make sure you are still heavy enough when the time comes to submit the insurance proposal.
  6. Will they look at my bmi before going on the 6 month diet or the bmi once I have completed the 6 month diet? It matters because I am borderline. I could, quite possibly, diet myself to a bmi which is under 35. Any thoughts?
  7. This is what worries me. I am a 35 bmi with several comorbids and, currently, that qualifies for the band. But if I go on another diet and lose, say 10-15 pounds, I will then be under a 35 bmi. The surgeons office told me that going on the diet doesn't mean I have to succeed at the diet. They told me to jump through the hoops, report in to the doctor each month for weighing - but to make sure I didn't lose any weight. Does this sound like the best plan?
  8. I am worried about the exact thing. I am a 35 bmi with comrbids. I am afraid of losing weight and disqualifying myself. The surgeons insurance lady told me to diet for 6 months - but to NOT lose any weight or else my bmi will be too low.
  9. I am a 35 bmi with several comorbids. I am afraid that the required 6 month diet will result in a lower bmi and knock out my chances of qualifying for the band. Any thoughts?
  10. Thanks, but I want the band. I have lost the same 40 pounds over and over and over again.
  11. I am just in the preliminary stages. I have done my research, attended the seminar, made consultation appointments with surgeon, nutritionist and psychologist. My PCP, however, recommends that I take Byetta instead of having the costly Lap Band surgery. This really confused me. Is he saying this works just as well? Is he saying I have Type 2 diabetes? Can I get another opinion? I really want this band and my doctor has thrown a major wrench in the puzzle. Any suggestions? I need advice.
  12. My BMI was not high enough 5 years ago. Do I have to wait until my BMI is at this level for 5 years in order to qualify?
