    3 days post.I need to eat..Help!

I was on liquids the first week, purees the second week. The protein will help fill you up. I felt like I was "empty" the first 2 weeks after surgery. But, when I drank (even the tiniest amount) I had a painful burp & I was definately full. "Empty" is the only way I can explain the feeling but, when I started mushies I undersand what hungry is. As for the chest pain...GasX helped me with the gas but, I also was tight in the chest and it burned around where my sternum is. The doc said that's where they put the instrument that holds your liver out of the way and sometimes they have to move around a bit which causes discomfort. To me this was the majority of my pain. Stay the course for the first couple of weeks to let yourself heal. Sip your water & protein and try to stay on the liquids. Try to remember it'll be over soon enough.

    My surgery was cancelled...

My surgery was almost post poned also. My surgeon injured himself & called me the night before the surgery to let me know he couldn't do it. His partner, whom I had never met, agree to do the surgery for me since I couldn't reschedule my time off work....It was a little unnerving! As far as your DH, I too had an extremely non- supportive DH. We've been together 10 years. He is 60 pounds over weight but has never actually gone on a diet so he didn't it. I just told him I was sorry but, I had to do this for me and in the end (when I was healthy, skinny & sporting new boobs) it would benefit both of us. He obviously went with me to the hospital and was really good about it but still thought I was making a horible mistake. We had been fighting since I decided to have the surgery and I thought it would probably be the end of us. The strange part was on my 1st full post op day I had come down with a really bad case of "buyers" remorse. I sat him down & said I needed him not to tell me "I told you so" or pass judgement or anything but, I needed to talk with him then I totally fell apart. I was crying and carrying on. He took my hand and said, as soon as the surgery was over he was ok, I couldn't magically take it back so, we needed to move forward and just thought ok now what. He beautifully talked me through my funk. I was banded May 12th and he has been extremely supportive since. He shops for special foods I can eat, cooks for me and is constantly telling me how proud he is of me. Everyones situation is different. I just felt I had to do the surgery. I could loose the weight by myself but, I'd done that a thousand times only to gain it back plus more every time. My DH has been great since the surgery & he's lost 9 pounds! He makes dinner for one and gives me a small portion & eats the remainder. Yeah for him! I wish you the best. Good luck!
  3. I was banded 5-12, I'm 3 weeks post-op & am technically in the "mushie" stage. What I found is I am hungry mentally & physically, I can eat anything & everything I want to put in my mouth (that's a bad, bad thing:scared2:) & am struggling to stay the program. Thenume is totally right! Per my Doc the band has been placed around your stomach but has nothing in it (at least mine doesn't) & as the swelling of your stomach goes down, any restriction you felt/feel after surgery will lessens. The best we can do is continue the band "diet" since without restriction it is a "diet", exercise and hopefully not gain weight before that fill which will give us some much needed restriction.
  4. Hotmama-I totally feel the same way you do. I was banded 5-12-08, was on liquids & puried food which was fine. I started "soft foods" yesterday and was hungry all day long. My doc says "soft foods" is anything I can smash with a fork. I have to admit I tried several things I couldn't smash with absolutely no problem. Now I'm worried! I know I just have to wait till the fill but until then I'm thinking...uh oh....

    Smoking?

Yes, you can't & don't want to be a smoker when you go under anesthetic. Smoking increases your risks of developing blood clots, pneumonia, trouble with the anesthesia and death. I was a smoker (embarrassed to say 25 years) and quit cold turkey 3 months before my band surgery on May 12th. Don't miss it, don't regret it. You are electing to have surgery.... please make sure you are in the best, best, best health you can be in. Quit today...no more excuses...do you want to be thin or not. This is what I told myself and it definately helped!
  6. My Dr said there's not alot of difference in slippage, errosion, life span ect. But, the realize is more user friendly and can be placed in roughly 30 min as opposed to 60 for the lap band. The realize also has a low profile port. It is bigger in diameter but, as you loose weight you wont be able to see the port under your new svelt figure. Also, their on-line support is phenominal and their web site is awsome....I had choosen the realize band unfortunately, my surgeon was injuried & his partner only uses the "lap-band". I hope this helped and check out the threads
  7. I like the Isopure premade. I buy it by the case at GNC & it's the same price as A1 before shipping. It is very Kool-aidish.

    7 holes??

Thanks disneyfreak! I called him on it & his response has been "this is happening to both of us not just you & I needed to talk it through with people". He's been pretty pissed off at me for thinking about having the surgery... voluntarily going under antistisia (I'm so lost w/out spell check), no longer being able to eat, eat, eat (which is why I have to have the surgery) with him. He's a closet chef and foody. As soon as the surgery was over he said he became totally relaxed & wasn't stressing anymore. He also told me he is proud of what I have accomplished & I should be proud to "why keep it a secret, you are being proactive about your health". I'm still pissed I just have nowhere to go with it! :woot:
  9. Activated charcoal gets rid of the gas pains way better than gas-x.

    7 holes??

I have 6 & 2 are pretty big. I was told 4-5 small incisions so ??? I was banded on May 12th. My surgeon was hurt the day before my surgury so, he could do the procedure resulting in some confusion before the operation. I was pretty out of it when I left the hospital so, I really don't know what happened and don't remember talking with the surgeon that preformed the actual operation-Weird- I am not so much in pain as uncomfortable. I feel like something is pressing on my sterum all the time and my gut feels "empty". I don't know how else to explain this feeling but it will wake me up at night and ache. I'm hoping it is just from the internal swelling and will go away because I don't know if I can handle this feeling for the rest of my life. I had huge buyers remorse on Tuesday and it is kinda subsiding. I wanted to keep the surgury quiet. I told my partner that it was a personal thing & I didn't want him telling anyone. I would tell who I felt comfortable telling. I told my mom & sisters. He has told his mom & sisters, my brothers, 3 of his male friends, 2 of our mutal female friends and god knows how else. I'm pretty pissed about it, don't know what I can do about it but am feeling a bit betrayed...a little like a looser...and basically embarrased. I would like to know if anyone else is having the feelings in there stomache like I am and I think I might need a little encouragement! THX

Protien - how do you get it in?

Gnc supplements sells Isopure drinks...Not the powder! The drink is 20oz & has 40g of protein. It comes in 4-5 "Kool-aidish" flavors. I'll drink on it all day to spread the protein out then get the other 20g from soups.
  12. Sorry, I was doing 2 things at once this morning. The band is the "realize" band and made by johnson & johnson.
  13. Hi, I'm Cyd. I had the lap band installed on Monday May 12th. I thought I was totally prepared however, Sunday night I got a call from the surgeon saying he couldn't do the lap band his partner would have to do it. I said ok but wondered if it was an omen or something. In the hospital, 15 min before surgery, I met the surgeon and he told me he could place the belize band it would have to be the lap band and did I want to proceed....Yes, I was ready, checked in, had an IV in, I guess that would be OK. Then he came back and said they needed to move someone ahead of me and I would need to wait 2 hours. I have to admit I was freaking!!! It turned out I didn't have to wait the OR was prepped for me already and the next thing I knew I was waking up. I was fine Monday & most of Tuesday then last night I started to have an anxiaty attach. Did I do the right thing by having this surgery! There's a forein body in side of me! The incisions are way, way bigger than I thought they would be and I have to say they are really ugly. No possible way they wont leave huge scars. I'm sorry this seems so down and winey I don't have anyone to tell this kind of stuff. On the possitive side since I started the journey I have lost 22#s quit drinking my 20 cups of coffee a day and stopped smoking so, just doing that is fantastic.
  14. I have another quick question...how do you attached the ticker tape. I went to the web site & set it up I just don't know were it goes in this web site- THX Cyd
