I need help Alabama Bandsters....
Bamagal replied to swstacey1977's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Nothing worse than a surgeon with a god complex, the first thing I would do is make him feel stupid really I would.I would bring in all the info I could find on Lap Band and then ask him how many he had done and what was his success rate with his patients. Now if your fills are free with him just know they want be free any where else you go.Granted that is something I would have asked before he done my surgery. Then I would make sure he knew I was gonna keep coming back until I reached restriction because I did not go through all this to do it all on my own with no help from my band and if he did not like to do fills I would suggest he just get it done.I know by now he will be pissed off but maybe a good ass kicken will be just what he needs. If that dont work ask him to refer you to a doctor who has the stomach for the job. -
My tummy was lopsided too ,but it did go away i don't know how long it took as I didn't dwell on it and you shouldn't either. As with any surgery it takes time to heal

just had 1st fill-4cc's didn't touch me
Bamagal replied to jkend50035's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It depends on alot, what was your start weight, what size band do you have?I would just be guessing you have the oh so large APL holds about 12-14cc I think, if so that is not alot for first fill.Even so restriction has to be done gradually so you do not get alot of swelling and possiably hurt yourself with an over fill.I know in the VG that is what I have they say it takes 3.5cc's just to fill the band and the tube.I just got my fourth fill that brought me to 4.5 yesterday and I am happy for the first time ,I fill restriction ,I only eat a few bites and I am full.So hang in there your day will come too. -
How Dee neighbor ,congrats on your approval and welcome to LBT.You can find the answers to many of your questions here and some right friendly folks.I am from Marbury,Alabama living in sunny south Florida. If I can assist you just pm me.

Hi Max I have heard the way to break a weight loss plateau is to zig zag your food intake and execrcise plans. You change your diet maybe even eat more calories ever other day and less than normal the next day.If you walk or jog maybe try weights or swimming. But you lost 50 pounds that something to celebrate about what would have happened if not banded? But one thing is for sure just stay the course and the scale will start to move again.

10cc band - how many cc's until restriction?
Bamagal replied to LiseSeattle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just got my 4th fill today added 1cc now I have 4.5cc in the VG 10cc band,I think this might do it if not maybe one more. After the fill I had to drink water it was slow going down and I could hear the gurgle so I hope this one does it. -
I'm so depressed, I think this was the worst mistake ever.
Bamagal replied to blackcherry2002's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Honey listen here first off no chicken nuggets get a salad, second I do not care how much you walk at work or for school you must get your heart rate up so run to your class across the campus. Now that aint all, this is not a diet so stop thinking about it as such, its a life style change.Make sure you get your water in,where are you with protein?Maybe you just need to shock your body so change things up a bit.I would suggest you do some research on how many calories a day you need I think you still kinda low for your weight so increase your calories to 1500 just make sure its with good food choices not chicken nuggets. But what ever you do just remember what it would have been like before the band you would have lost a few to just to gain back that and a few more. -
wow only two weeks on liquids and move on to solid, sounds like he moving you along pretty quickly.I had one week clear liquids, week full liquids then mushies then soft food and then solids But hey I am not knocking him I am just jealous cause I was starving waiting on solids.

My doc told me if its chewing you miss chew gum,but not all docs allow gum so ask first.
-
I was told doctors believe carbonation will stretch your pouch ,but there was no proof either way.For me it just plain hurts and makes me burp so why bother.
-
I am still fighting with constipation.I have had it so bad my whole intestines hurt. What has helped me is taking my vitamins to make sure I get all the needed nutrients and this is a big one make sure you get your veggies in.While they yell eat your proteins we also need our veggies too.I use Bolthouse green goodness it looks gross taste great and has two servings of fruits and vegetables and I find it very filling. If all else fails use a stool softener.

I was allowed to shower but no tub bath till my stitches came out in a week.I showered the morning after my surgery and my bandages came off too.Being in Mexico the doctor checked me the next morning again and replaced my band aids she said do not scrub the wounds and do not use scented soap or deodorant soap so I used ivory.
-
for me the first few days was just clear liquids after that it was full liquids, once I went to full liquids I could have protein drinks.I will even suggest Bolthouse soy protein drinks and Green goodness it looks gross taste great and has tons of nutrients and very satisfying.

Weight Watchers Scale WW67T
Bamagal replied to magaines's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a WW scale and it is junk, the one that tells Water, body fat and bone density. If you step on it 4 times you will weigh different each time. Very frustrating and it off by a few pounds too.I replaced it and am happy I did.Send it back. Manual that should work http://www.conaircanada.ca/en/pdf/ibs/ibww70c_en.pdf -
How soon can you eat after a fill?
Bamagal replied to littlefroggy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doctor says mushies for the rest of the day and then see how it goes if I have trouble with solids the next day do soft foods for a few days before try again but I never have any trouble. -
Fills that "work" for 2-3 weeks then STOP!
Bamagal replied to scwsmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I do not know if it is normal or not but I have the same problem,I have just had fill three aswell.I think what happens is we get a slight swelling from the fill and it goes down.My doc said the stomach is a fickle patient and that is why we have to sneak up on the right fill amount. So I will just go back and get another slight fill hoping this one will stick.I did worry about having a leak at first but he said no leak he got back just what he put in. -
PLEASE HELP ME , I NEED YOUR TIPS,Who Did it in Mexico, I knew none of this
Bamagal replied to lapbanddanny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are over a year out it is time to do you yearly check up where they check you out under x-ray.So you need to schedule that with a doctor here or return to your doctor in Mexico.I can not even imagine going that long without seeing one of my two doctors.I too would not be surprise if you had a slip band from pushing past full and possible stretching the pouch.Maybe you should go to full liquids until you see a doctor,if you have slipped sometimes they can unfill you for awhile and it will go back.My second thought is you have not slipped at all because you have always ate past full and then you throw up. I had a problem eating at night,I would wake up and go eat two or three times in the night until was so full I threw up not good know but I knew that too.I wake up at night now but I do not eat now I just get a drink and back to bed and I do not throw up any more. -
Look guys the band no matter how tight you get will stop you from eating cakes, cookies,Ice cream or chips. These foods are just very band friendly and go down easy. Now that said you are better off eating that chicken that fills you up in two bites,if its to dry add a little mayo or feta cheese to help soften it,eat veggies and cheese, yes they fill you up fast and you must chew slow and wait between bites. You will never be so tight you can not eat those bad foods it is up to you to make good food choices. If you can not stay away from those foods it is not a fill you need its counseling. Please I am not trying to be mean I just want you to know the band will not take the place of will power and good food choices.Only you can make the choice not to eat sweets.

Pay for the band! Poll!
Bamagal replied to princess_n_thep's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I paid $6,750.00 and $75.00 for fills but still waiting to see how much of that I can get back on taxes.Obesity is a disease so out of pocket is a tax deduction even though I had it done in Mexico I paid in USA cause the Hospital is American owned. Will update after I do my taxes this year. -
well as you all know I went to Mexico also, the hospital I went to is also owned in USA and I also recall from my research non of the Allergen Bands have been discontinued. Then also in my research I found that the smaller band she has has a better success in a shorter time because it don't take as much to fill it so she will find her sweet spot way before the 10CC and larger 14CC band. Now as to finding an aftercare doc that was not a problem either,I was accepted by a great doctor and one of the best in South Florida and recognized by Allergen .I would also like to add I have seen complication no matter where you go.My doctor is from Canada and he very aware USA prices is over the top so sometimes he takes self paid to Malaysia for surgery,so if you want to save money and want an American doctor I would highly recommend him to anyone, but if you have plenty of money or insurance will pay I say why travel. If you do go out of the country then be sure and get a copy of your medical records to bring home, doctors are more willing to take you if they know who-what-when and where. http://bariatrictimes.com/2007/06/02/the-lap-band-ap%E2%84%A2-system-the-platform-advances/

I think LAGB stands for Laproscopic Ajustable Gastric Band and that is what we all have.Look at the card they gave you or the box or maybe you got the surgery file copy?Because it could stand for Lap-Band Adjustable Gastric Band and that would be the Lap-Band at 10 size it would be the the APS Band by Allergan and yes it hold 4cc and judging from your surgery weight that would be the correct band size for you.

Congrats of needing a new belt,I never wore a belt but now may need a rope to hold my pants on as I refuse to keeping buying alot of new clothes on my trip down.
-
my port is about 2 or three inches higher than my belly button and about 3 inches to the left when I stand.Let me just say it seems lower than after surgery but all the swelling is gone now.Do not worry to much our body moves things around as we lose weight,I was all freaked out two when I noticed mine was not where I thought I left it too LMAO.But after an exam under flouro X-ray all was fine.

Do You Regret Getting Banded ??? VOTE !
Bamagal replied to ramone's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If you has ask me that right after I had surgery I would have had to think hard or it.But at this stage past the pain and the liquid diet I love my band.It is the like a consciences presence always there to remind me not to indulge in my weakest moments.I am not ashamed of my band I am proud to have gotten it when so many are still waiting and trying.I am a self pay aswell so my risk as other self paid people is high, we paid the price if it fails,so I think we are more aware of the price we have paid for weight loss. But I can say it has been worth ever penny even if I never get to a size 10 and I did not have to rework the plumbing I was designed with. Before the band yes I could lose weight but it always found its way back with a vengeance. The last two months I have fought with constipation, and very little weight loss but I didn't gain a pound back .This week I finally found the right combination that works for me and lost 3 pounds .
