Blessings on your head!🤗 Please let us know how you are doing. My surgery is Sept. 2nd and I...I don't know how I feel really. Just kind of numb.😶

Sounds like your husband might be scared of the coming changes that he has no control over. Have you said to him something like, " I understand that you can't feel happy about this, but I would like your support. It is going to happen with or without it, and I would rather not be resentful that you didn't support me during this time." Then tell him how to support you, specifically. Most men I know do very well with specific instructions. They just are not very intuitive!😏 The man in my life has had NO reaction to all of this. Neither positive or negative. When I asked what he thought about all of this, he kind of shrugged his shoulders and said, "Do you" and "I hope it's worth it". That was it. My surgery is scheduled for September 2nd, and he is still like, "Doo-dee-doo-dee-doh".🙄

Mine has been "Meh", but yours seems actively hostile! Is there any other dietician you can see at your clinic, or that insurance would cover outside your clinic? My dietician is pleasant, but seems a bit disorganized and doesn't say much unless I ask her very specific questions. And there have been a couple of times when I will ask something and she'll say, "Oh, I don't know, but tell me what you find, I can pass it along to others." I don't mind helping other patients, but really??🤨

Anyone for September 2020?
drawingdami replied to vsg_britt_091420's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it hadn't been for the lockdown, it would have taken about 3 months. Now I am scheduled for Sept. 2, so 6 months in all. A tip: Try to schedule as many of the tests as you can into as few days as possible. It was a real pain in my butt to go back and forth for the various appointments and tests! -

Anyone for September 2020?

Same here. Still questioning if I am doing the right thing. I am so afraid that I will cause myself more health problems. But I am trying to just take it one moment at a time. -
Anyone for September 2020?

My RnY has FINALLY been scheduled for September 2nd. I was just about to get a surgery date in March when my state shut down due to COVID19. I wasn't a bit nervous earlier this year when I thought I would be getting surgery in April, but now I am like, AAAAAAAAAAGH! 😱😱 My surgeon told me I will be in the OR for twice as long because I had a fundoplication surgery before and they have to undo that first. He also said I shouldn't be surprised if I have complications due to previous scarring from the fundoplication and my two kidney transplants (there is a whole lot o' things going on in there) But I am praying that I will miraculously come through with no problems. God is good. So yeah,😏 I could use a buddy. -
NYC Healthfirst/Medicaid Post Op Shakes and Multivitamins
drawingdami replied to KimEJ420's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi back! I too am in NYC and my surgery is scheduled for for September 2. I also use Medicaid and Medicare. Medicaid won't cover shakes but SNAP/EBT will cover many of them and the meal replacement powders. You can use your SNAP/EBT card on Amazon and it will tell you which ones are EBT eligible. I would push your doctor to see if there is any prescribable multivitamin they can request. Medicaid will sometimes cover vitamin supplements if there is a medical need. When I was on dialysis, there was a renal multivitamin that was prescribed to me, but then once I had my transplant they wouldn't cover it. Medicaid has covered vitamin D, B12, and Iron when my levels are severely low-- but like, life threateningly low. There might be a multivitamin that is covered. Push someone at your clinic to try and submit a prescription for you. Your pharmacy will tell you whether or not it is covered. If it is not, try asking the pharmacist if there is a prescribable multivitamin that Medicaid covers. They often know. Then you can ask your clinic if someone can prescribe that to you. Good luck! -
BMI OF 31 AND 35 LB TO LOSE. IS IT WORTH IT?
drawingdami replied to nssmia's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We are in sort of a similar boat. I am 5'4" and currently weigh in at 202. I have several medical issues though. Severe GERD, high cholesterol and blood pressure without medications, sleep apnea, and...I have had two kidney transplants (the current one is doing well, thank God). I am very grateful to be alive, but I want to thrive and be happy with my body. I have lost and regained the same 30 to 40 lbs over and over and I too am tired of hovering around 200lbs. I know what it feels like to weigh less, and I do feel better, physically. I like to run and it is painful at this weight. No matter what I do, and I have done it ALL, I can't seem to keep my weight off (I also don't seem to go above 210lbs either. It is like my weight is set around the 200lb mark😠). I had a Nissen Fundoplication for the GERD about 4 years ago, and it worked well, but it didn't last. I was told that a RnY is a permanent fix to GERD and mine is really bad due to recurring hiatal hernias. It is almost 6 weeks since your last post. Did you decide on what to do? Either way, I hope you are doing well.😊 -
RnY Bariatric Surgery With an Organ Transplant
drawingdami replied to drawingdami's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
@CelticBeautyEvolving If he is seriously interested, he should ask his transplant team. There may be a wait time for them to see if his health is stable enough. Is his at a large hospital? Mine is so they do have transplant patients that are in the bariatric program there. There are so many different kinds of WL surgeries now, there may be something that isn't as malabsorbative as RnY or DS. I thought the sleeve was one of them. I am looking at RnY because my GERD is so bad. The weightloss will be an added benefit, though I can't lose too much weight since you need a certain amount of fat to properly absorb immunosuppressants. I just don't need all 40lbs extra that I am carrying around at the moment!😜 He should ask. The worst they can say is no. -
RnY Bariatric Surgery With an Organ Transplant
drawingdami posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello! I am a 2x kidney transplant recipient, the latest transplant being done November 2016. My kidney and I have been stable with a creatinine of around 1.4. About 6 months before the transplant I had a Nissen Fundoplication (GERD surgery) because of a hiatal hernia and it got to the point that drinking water hurt my stomach severely. The NF worked and the GERD went away until earlier this year. Now the GERD is back with a vengeance because I have ANOTHER hiatal hernia! My bariatric surgeon has recommended I have a RnY gastric bypass to get rid of the GERD permanently and possibly lower my blood pressure and cholesterol which are currently controlled by medications. I am a regular runner and weightlifter, but I am perpetually about 30-40 lbs overweight with a BMI of 35, and lately I have been having a lot of pain in my lower back, hips and lower legs. So, he thinks its a good idea for weight loss for me as well. Are there any transplant recipients here that had a gastric bypass AFTER transplantation? How did you fare? Any regrets? Any problems?- 3 replies
