I had the RNY and my daughter has the sleeve. She has lost over 70 lbs . and has way more food options and seems to have less problems with vitamin absorption.. I have lost faster but have no acid reflux but have dumped once and vomited.. there are pros and cons to each and each one of us can use our surgeries as the tools they were suppose to be and plot out our own journey to success.. you will do great!! I was so affraid of failure until I decided I was an individual and what works for one person might not work for me.. people who have had the sleeve have great success..

I told the ones who are usually supportive and I know genuinely love me.. the rest I let think it was will power or , better yet, a secret to lose weight that I’m not willing to share... I’m ENJOYING the game!!.. heee heee

I hope this gives you some hope and works out for you as well.. Roux NY gastric bypass made it so my sleep apnea is gone!!.. as well as my acid reflux.. I now sleep in the same bed as the Hubby and he is ecstatic!

The reason I felt I HAD to do the Roux n Y full by pass was to heal my body of the effects of my acid reflux. From the first seminar at the hospital I had my surgery at( given by the surgeon who actually operated ) I learned that the full by pass gave me the best odds to lose the most weight AND heal the GERD that wrecked havoc on my insides for way too long.. I know many people who had great success with the sleeve but my surgeon was adamant it could increase my acid.. everyone must follow their own path.. since Feb. 4, 2019 , I’ve lost 52 lbs( 12 pre op from liver shrinking protocol diet) and NO ACID REFLUX .

Can we talk about food aversion
Carrot64 replied to newmebithebypass's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I never thought I’d feel this way cuz I looooved ma food.. now I use food as medicine and I only eat what’s good for me because of food aversion and the fact that everything tastes different now.. this girl now loves salads...I’m as baffled as anyone!!! -
I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
Carrot64 replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My surgeon talked me into the full RNY because of my Barrett’s and bad acid reflux... I had heard the Sleeve makes acid worse?? I would suggest to you to stay on the proton pumps or whatever medication is best for you and don’t eat late at night?? I know that what worked for me pre surgery made others worse so I’d only use your doctor’s advice.. acid reflux is HELL and I am so sorry for you. -

Surgery was February 4th, 2019 and I’ve lost 62 lbs in all. I had to do the liver shrinking diet and lost 12 lbs in 2 weeks prior... starting weight before liver shrinking diet was 240 at 5 , 4” had RNY because of hernia and awful acid reflux.. been to counseling and following plan like a trooper , just worried that I am able to fill up that little pouch.. doesn’t mean I will, I just feel no discomfort and was expecting more..nice to feel so good though, and I am determined to make this work.. reminding myself the surgery was a TOOL.. a tool I must use... no miracle , well, maybe I can make my own miracle... NO!!! I WILL make my own miracle... this is an excellent place for support .

I had Roux NY gastric bypass on February 4th and I’m 55 . So far I haven’t had any complications and I’ve lost 60 lbs. I had a hiatal hernia repaired as well and my acid reflux ( With Barrett’s esophagus) ALL GONE.. unfortunately, I feel like I could ( and felt for a while) load up my pouch WAY more and do it comfortably.. I asked my surgeon if she was sure she operated!!! I haven’t cheated ... trying to get all my water and protein and I’m determined to change my life and I have had success, I just thought I’d feel more restricted... my fear of failure kept me up last night.. a weigh in today and visit with my surgeon.. had to leave my therapist and am on the hunt for one who specializes in eating disorders and weight loss. I’m doing everything right but the fear of failure is palpable. -
I have a "would you rather' question
Carrot64 replied to jasmineinmymind's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m right with you , I too have been able to tolerate most anything and have to stop myself or o know I could eat more than most people can at my stage of 3 1/2 months . The only saving grace was the lack of hunger but I fear that will return soon. I know there are many doubting Thomas’s in my life that are waiting to see if I fail at this as I did with all my other attempts to lose weight. I have to say as an answer to your question, wish I had the restriction I thought I would have and more of the "foamies” as some kind of restrictive guide . Alas I feel like I’m on another diet. I had full Roux NY to heal my atrocious acid reflux and hernia, I feel great and the surgery corrected that and I feel GREAT.. just too great.
