waist training after gastric bypass
always replied to PudgeBeGone's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Anything that involves the Steele rods/elastic support, etc...actually decreases muscle tone. That's probably why it is able to shape you. In the 80's all Abdominal surgery were wrapped in these waist binders. Then back injuries jumped on board. Any back pain you got a back brace/support. When you took it off the poor muscle tone caused more bad then good. Oh forgot if you fractured a rib we did chest wraps, not sure how many pneumonia that caused but it was a common side effect. Like the old saying goes if you don't use it you loss it.....Ask you surgeon or PCP -
My Gym said big weight loss equal Estrogen shifts. Estrogen stores in fat cells so quick weight loss you get Estrogen spikes. I had an ablation 8 years ago and had 2months of a period. REALLY...

Just starting journey band to bypass
always replied to loridee24's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had it all done in one procedure removal and revision. The more incisional sites you have the more chance of a incisional Hernia. I Loved Loved Loved my band and then it slipped and all I did was throw-up. I have to say this has been great my stomach is still the size of an Egg and so much easier than the band. No more frothing or vomiting and the food does not get stuck. Not to mention appts for the fills. I had 1cc in a 4cc band, so not even full. I would not think twice about the conversion. I will say a lot longer healing process, the progression of food is slow. Its like the first week Lap band post-op when drinking was a full-time job. You honestly after a few sips were so full. Im 3.5 months out and at present I can handle about 40gms of Protein with food and drinks, and about 54oz of fluid. So it does go slower regarding recovery time. On the most positive I have only vomited once and it was my fault I took a big sip of protein drink and gulped it so it came back up. That was nothing compared to vomiting everyday with the band regardless of how much I chewed. -
Hungry after gastric sleeve?
always replied to DietrichWarnick's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think everyone goes through a period of questioning your decision and grieving. Your family is sitting down for this amazing meal which you probably made and your sipping on a Protein drink. You did so much work to get here and your sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. Next time your feeling hungry distract yourself with something physical like a walk or do the stairs a few times. Is it head hunger or real hunger? -
Hi, I have moved here from Sleeves

Protein premier salted Carmel half it with warm water. Amazing warm like drinking dessert. Sugar free peppermints crush it up in a chocolate protein drink and warm it up. Curbs to sweet craving and gets the protein in. Target sells a protein drink with 20gms of protein and raspberry. It is so sweet I cut it with water. Lots of little things you can do to make a sweet tooth happy. Tons of extract flavors you can add to vanilla protein to give it taste...Some days you love them and other days your stomachs can't tolerate them. It's just about day to day. I'm 3.5 months out and still not where I should be with Protein and fluids. I have grouchy pouch, warm is better for me always. I can tolerate 40 gms of protein a day and maybe 54oz of fluid at most. It takes time to heal, some longer than others. Clearly I'm a slow healer. I had a UGI w/FT 2 months out and everything was still so swollen and moving slow I'm a nurse also and we are always more self critical -
I dumped for the first time with just a tiny amount. Never had that craving again
-
I am 3 months out and I just stopped falling asleep every time I sat down. Dr. put it this way 1 gm of protein equals 4 calories so if you only get 40gms of protein in that day that's 160 calories. Now imagine how fast you burn that chasing a 1 year old. Give yourself time your body is going thru alot
-
I do the Perdue short cut chicken strips and wrap a piece of Raw Spinach around it and use fat free dressing as a dip. Helped my cravings

I was sick and couldn't tolerate anything but fluids for over 1 month. My surgeon was all over this I had to see him weekly. They said after 3 months if there wasn't any improvement I had to have a scope looking for ulcers or strictures. Also with any complication they said picture yourself as going backwards and start back at post open day 1. Best advice they had for every 1gm of protein it equals 4 calories. So when you feel like carp it's because look at how many calories you had that day. They also changed meds on me I was taking omeprazole 2 a day and 300mg of Zantac at bedtime so there was no acid in my stomachs at all. Only concern for them was fluids and protein and just give your body time. Now I am 2.5 months out and still just about 45gms of protein a day and 1500cc of fluids a day. Your poor body went through hell with the infection you must have used up everything you had just to heal. No wonder you feel so weak and sick. So start back at square one and treat your pouch as a new born belly. Concentrate on fluids and protein amounts. Protein premier makes a clear liquid protein drink that's like 20gm a bottle so counts as fluids and protein. Some days I am lucky enough to get 2 down. I am so sorry you are going through this it's so hard to feel sick and tired all the time. Have you thought of a Gastroenterologist consult so they can go down and see if there is a fissure, strictures, ulcer? Good luck keep the site updated on how you are.....

Do not buy to much of one type your tastes change after drinking the same thing over and over. Premier Protein lots of different flavors I use Vanilla in my coffee. Premier Protein water has 20gm of Protein the Berry's are yummy. Muscle Milk has 25gms of Protein. Protein infused water Protein2o has 15gm of Protein. Most of these are at Target or Grocery store.

Meeting surgeon for the first time getting anxious
always replied to New&Improved's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Just remember what started you on the journey. As it gets closer the doubts start making you question... What are you doing?. You had a mental plan to get healthy and control of your medical issues. Just don't let fears take that plan away. If your really not mentally ready for the commitment then wait and start the process over when you are. Good luck on your procedure if you move forward. This is a great board to vent, ask questions, and read others experiences. I am 1.5 months out and best decision for me!!!!! -
Thanks for the info, I dumped once and never want to do that again. I had surgery 5/23 and like you having a hard time moving past liquids and full liquids. I will say pan seared scallops are little protein balls and I have been able to tolerate them. Finally able to get Protein up to the 50's in a day. Going out to get a few Protein Bars you use now. Good luck!!!!

Clearly this is important to you. It takes so much effort and time before getting a Preop date. You must have wanted this life change to work so hard. Until your asleep it's your choice but months of appts and time you had a clear path on what you wanted. No look at why your in panic mode because of your head or what someone is putting in your head.

When did all the office worker go back to work?
always replied to t_dulls's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
At least 3-4 weeks. Its not the pain management its the exhaustion, weakness, and if your only tolerating 250 calories a day how can you possibly have good mental function. 1 gm of Protein equals 4 calories, so even if your up to 40gms of Protein that's only 160 calories. Plus if your working the demands of the day your not concentrating of getting in fluids and Protein. Job performance can not be good when your mentally sluggish. You need to conserve the Protein intake for wound healing in the beginning . I had a few small complications and actually DR. wanted me out for 6 weeks but went back at 4.5 weeks. Good Luck -
Question About Preparing for Post Sleeve
always replied to Awesome1981's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
bahaha oooopppps on the double post. I just discovered Protein Premier water has 20 gms of Protein. Is nice for a change and counts towards fluid intake. The Raspberry is good and not to strong. I am 5 weeks out and still on liquids to soft. A few set backs but at least didn't need to go back in surgery. Finally I am able to tol about 1700cc of fluid and about 50 gms of Protein and that is with constant effort all day. Good luck -
Question About Preparing for Post Sleeve
always replied to Awesome1981's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ice cube trays to make post-op jello and pudding in. It is the perfect 4 bite size for when you are on the first 2 weeks post-op. Then at the dollar tree they have these like 3oz packs of 10 plastic containers with lids. Get a few of those I use them all the time. Again a perfect size to divide cottage cheese, tuna, or anything for when your back to work for portion control. Good Luck on your procedure...…. -

Lap Band revision to RNY?
always replied to SkinnyKathy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi, I had a Lap and done 12 years ago. It was amazing until it wasn't lost all excess weight except 20+ still to go. I regained it all when the band slipped. All those foods I had missed I went crazy. Wow a big Mac had never tasted so good. So conversion done on May 23rd so I can only give you a 1 month opinion. It is so different in a better way. I don't have that constant choking pressure like with the band. Drinking and eating is harder. I'm 4 weeks out and still on liquids I can't advancement 1 bite of anything eggs, yogurt, etc and it feels like a turkey dinner. They said with 1 step there is a lot of swelling and it takes time. So maybe the 2 step for healing is a better option. They did barium studies and everything looks good just moving and healing slow. Lots of meds go with RNY. At present 2 omiprazole a day you open capsule and take the granules. 2 zantac a day, 1 bariatric complete MVI, A Med to stop Gallstone development, Vitamins for hair. I vomited a lot with the band not once with this. Also no fills needed I won't miss that. So the right choice for me no regrets at all. My loss isn't normal because I am not on track with the program yet stuck in phase 1 with fluids. So with 2 week liquid pre op diet and 4 weeks out so a total of 6 weeks fluids I have lost 34 lbs. To be honest I was 80lbs over weight not the 100+ needed for insurance approval. I had these procedures for medical issues that is how I was approved. Good luck on your procedures. -
Hi all, I had a GLP to RNY on 5/23 I still cant move past liquids. The best I can go is cream soups maybe 5 sips. I tried cottage cheese and wow cramping for hours. I tried blended Tuna and vomited. Anyone else moving forward post-op this slow. Also I am up and about never had any issues moving but within a few hours I am bloated and my stomach is so tight. TIA for your experiences
-
Thank you all for your answers. They did an UGI and SBFT to look for issues and you are all right everything is just so swollen still. So now Omeprazole and zantac twice a day each. If not improved in a few weeks then a scope. But you made me feel better I am not crazy not able to advance off of fluids.

I had my GLB to RNY May 23 and I still can not tolerate anything by watery liquids. At post op visit yesterday they said if I cant do more than a liter a day of fluids I'll have to come in to get hydrated. Really I am lucky to do 700cc and that's all day and really trying. How are you all doing......
-
Hi, I just have a question about how much you can all get in. I am 7 days out Lapband to RNY. At this point I tolerate maybe 3-4 bites of jello, sips of a protein drinks. I am just not hungry or thirsty. I just sip sip sip all day. At this point my guidelines say 3 drinks a day between three meals with a 1/4 of a cup of something cottage cheese or yogart. Not a chance I could do this. Could you all? Just wondering if I am behind and not pushing it enough.

So now I am 8 days out and finally the pain in that area is better still there but better. Good luck hang in there!!!!!
