    Coffeeeee

My doctor just okayed on my last appoint. So a little over a month after surgery. Just no cream or sugar with it. I drank some a couple of days ago and today with my protein shake and my stomach has been fine so far.
  3. My go to was refried beans with a tad bit of shredded cheese and split pea soup.

    Food Intake

I just had my second follow-up visit after surgery and was told by dr. that I need to be eating more calories. I am currently eating between 500-700 calories a day and am literally full. I also have not figured out what is going to agree with my system yet and what is going to make me sick, so I have been sticking to safe options. But I was told that I need to be eating between 1000-1200 calories a day to loose otherwise my body will hold on to the weight. How long after surgery were you all eating that much in addition to drinking 64oz of water/liquids daily?

    Slow weight loss

I literally just posted about the same thing- going to the doctor and being told that I should be eating between 1000-1200 calories a day and drinking 64oz of liquids. If not then my body will hold on to the weight. Another task is getting in 40 minutes of intense cardio in 3-4 times a week . If I follow these "suggestions" then I should be losing between 1.5-2lbs a week.

Thanks! I knew that seemed like a lot to be eating at this stage but she was so adamant about it that I figured I ask.

    Losing slow but I’m happy

I like this...it can be difficult not comparing our stories to others. You look terrific - keep pushing forward!
  8. Great post! I had to laugh at you referencing how the sleeve was discovered by sheer accident- so true! @BlueAngelEyes After finding this page, I did not realize the variation in each doctor's before/after surgery orders are. My husband had the sleeve a few years ago and he was on liquids for six weeks, then allowed to pureed/soft foods for a month and then transition into full eating. I went through a different practice and I was only on full liquids for about 7 days, then 10 days of soft/pureed and next eating whatever agrees with my system. I do not think there is one right way, but the doctors are following the guidelines that they believe work. I for one was hungry literally by the end of my first week. I was over the liquid shakes and think I demolished a box of sugar-free Popsicles in a couple of days. I looked forward to eggs, yogurt and cottage cheese but honestly was tired of that after a couple of days. I would advise that you contact your doctor or dietitian before moving along because you want to ensure that your body can actually tolerate the foods that you want to consume. So far the only meat protein that I have been able to tolerate without feeling sick are eggs, pork chops and flounder (after trying chicken, salmon, small portions of beef and lamb). This is definitely not a fun process, but you want to make sure you are prepared mentally as well as physically before moving on. I wish you the best!

    New around here

I am happy your surgery went well! I actually did not find this website until 2 nights before my surgery. I was looking online for some current experiences, not sure why this site did not show up before. Anyways, it sounds as if you have had a pretty good hospital experience and I am happy that you have such a supportive CEO-wow! I wish you the best!

Better tasting [to me] water flavoring

Costco also has their brand of Vitamin Water that tastes pretty good and a little less. Also, I just posted under another water question about drinking diet Snapple (Peach or Regular flavor) if it is an approved drink. I have been mixing it half water and lemons/limes. So far it's been pretty good.

    can't drink water

Can you also drink diet teas such as Diet Snapple? It was on my list of allowable drinks. I have been mixing half diet peach tea and water in a bottle and keep it with me on the go. For some reason, right now plain water just makes me a little nauseous unless it is ice cold. But the tea mixture or crystal light with lemon has been working.
  14. I am a month out and still keep going back and forth asking myself "was this really necessary?" I was able to get through the pain but I also feel as if I let myself down because it seems as if I should have been able to do this on my own instead of taking such extreme measures. One bright spot is that I just started logging my foods again using myfitnesspal and I looked back at my weight from 2011, it was close to where my starting weight was before surgery- Overall, the positives definitely outweigh the negative. We just have to take things one step and day at a time. I wish you the best.

    Coffee 2 months out??

I was told the same, but the plan I am following seems to be a little less strict than others I have read about.
  16. Hi, why would you lose your spot? Are you just starting? I know each jurisdiction is different, but a few years ago someone I know had surgery and he is a firefighter. He just let them know he needed medical leave and did not have to disclose what for - just provided general medical documentation afterwards from his doctor, and was placed on light duty for a couple of weeks after returning to work.

    Drinking Post Op

QuilterGal and Argente 1280, thank you both for sharing your stories! During the pre-op phase, I recall the dietitian stating how easy it could be to look for other things to self-medicate after we could not eat the same way anymore. I wish you all the best during your journeys.
  18. I initially thought I would use the pre-made protein drinks so I bought a few boxes so I would not have to worry. After I came home from the hospital, I literally could not stand the scent of any pre-made shakes. I ended up buying a container of Whole Foods Whey Chocolate protein powder and some almond milk and was good to go. It was soo weird though because I had previously been drinking Premier Protein, Slim Fast and Atkins with no issues.

    5.5 Year Update

Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
  20. I am on day 16 and was so happy to try tuna and an egg couple of days ago. I dropped my kids off at school and thought I was going to truly enjoy my scrambled egg. I took a few bites and needed to lay down afterwards...the same with the tuna. I was in pain almost the entire day. Most of today, I have had only liquid proteins. I tried the tuna again with the same results. In my mind I want it, but it’s like I cannot physically tolerate it yet. I go back to work next week and am not sure what I am going to do.
  21. Hi Tiffany, I can understand your feelings. My surgery was on the the 14th and I have gone through feeling as if I made a huge mistake to wondering if I am going to be successful to wondering why I am still feeling hungry when following my plan. During my first appointment, I mentioned these feelings to the nurse practitioner and she stated those feelings are perfectly normal. As far as food and feeling hungry, I was advised that once I start on soft foods (this week), I will notice a vast difference between the liquid and puréed periods. This is is where the will work and willpower begins. I am still feeling apprehensive but let’s just take each day and process one step at a time. And if it makes sense, maybe step away from the scale for a couple of weeks until the liquid-soft food phase has passed.
  22. Also also try the Premier Protein Clear drinks. This is my second week out and initially it was the only thing I could drink for the first few days. They are not as thick as other protein drinks and easy to sip on.

  24. I was offered red dilutes fruit juice after the first day of ice water. Perhaps you could Also request that either apple, cranberry or grape.

    Surgery is Tomorrow!

I think everyone goes through the a similar level of anxiety. I am almost a week out now, but I kept telling my husband if anything happens to please take good care of my children😀 Once I was in recovery, I kept asking if I looked okay as if something on the outside had been taken. You will be in and out before you know it! I wish you the best.
