I am ‘in process’ without a surgery date yet. I am a candidate for RNY because of GERD, sugar addiction, comorbidites but I have had three previous abdominal surgeries and my surgeon said adhesions could require me to have a sleeve instead. Did any of you have successful RNY despite having adhesions?

I’m so glad you both did so well!

First Pre-op Diet Weigh In Blues
Libby63 replied to shannamarie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don’t stop the weights! You can talk to your DR, a personal trainer or do some research, but the muscle you build will help increase your metabolism. That will help you more in the long run. I always gain a few pounds when I first start exercising. It will even out. It will be ok. You are doing great! -
Thank you Preston and Fluffy

Mrs Hayes, that must have been terrifying. Glad you are ok now.

Thanks, Briswife15. Alex76, I am sure you will be fine or he would have mentioned it! My surgeon was most concerned about my old gallbladder surgery. The others were a 2 stage hysterectomy but he was not as concerned with them. Relax, and get a good nights sleep. Please let me know how it goes. You’ll be in my thoughts tomorrow. Best wishes!

Congrats on a job well executed! And... those beautiful babies deserve to have a great Dad who lives to see them through most of their major milestones

An exercise to get rid of excuses

Thanks, this is great. I was sitting here procrastinating paying the bills 😱Not to diminish its’ wider applications! -
I’m 63, in OH and just starting the process. How are you doing? Did everything go well?

I had my first consult today. Surgeon thinks roux en y is best due to lifelong gerd issues, although some concern regarding my previous abdominal surgeries. I’m somewhat overwhelmed by all there is to do but I think the June goal I most need support with is giving up Diet Coke. I’m very addicted to it. Glad to be here with all of you!

What medical issues have you overcome since WLS?
Libby63 replied to Jemma23's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For those of you off the diabetes drugs, how long were you diabetic? My surgeon told me today that since I’ve been diabetic 13 years, it may not reverse. -
I have my first appt on Wed. MyChart says it is 30 min with the Bariatric surgeon. It doesn’t seem typical that my first appointment would be with the surgeon and it seems like most of you had longer appointments your first visit. Is this weird? Maybe I’m just getting nervous.

Thanks so much! I appreciate your sharing.

First Doctor Appointment tomorrow

I have my first appointment on Wed and I’m getting nervous. My online chart says it’s a 30 min appointment with the surgeon. It sounds like that is not typical? -

Is Weight Loss Surgery for Me?
Libby63 replied to gch81kb's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am in a similar state in terms of weight loss and current state. I also am just beginning the journey and investigating so this is based on my inexperienced thinking, but for me it’s not about the weight loss, it’s about my health. My type2 is well controlled but I have enough diabetics in my family to know that can turn on a dime. I have sleep apnea, high triglycerides, GERD, stress incontinence and a family history of deaths from cancers. It is the Bariatric surgery impact on the co-morbidities that has drawn me to my investigation. I would talk to your Dr about your concerns. The type2 from Bariatric does not go away merely from the weight loss, there are other contributing factors. Good luck with your decision. Please let us know. -
Sticking my toe in the water...
Libby63 replied to Libby63's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks so much. That is reassuring. -
I’m considering and am grateful to all of you sharing your experiences. I went to a seminar 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I got a call saying my insurance will cover the surgery and I booked my first appointment. I’m thinking I’ll get a gastric bypass recommendation even with my 37 BMI because I have had GERD even before I was heavy and I am Type 2, asthmatic, and have sleep apnea and slightly high BP. However, I am in my sixties and have had 2 GYN surgeries and gallbladder back when they flayed you open like a fish so maybe I won’t even be a candidate. What do they do about medications after surgery? I am on 2 diabetes medicines (non-insulin) and my blood sugar drops if I go past meal times without eating.
