Asking older sleevers, did I make a mistake?

Why did you plateau for so long? Bad eating habits?

My surgeon advised me to restart taking tablets at my two week post op appointment. I never stopped taking the sublingual B12 or the chewable vits

    April Sleevers

Yea I can only eat about 600-700 calories per day. I think the more we can eat eventually the more we’ll lose. But stalls are part of the process.

    Depressed

Hi. I had surgery on 4/15/19. HW 378. DOS 319.8. CW 296.9. I’m happy with my progress. I lost the first 18 lbs in less than 2 weeks and because of the rapid weight loss my body went into self preservation mode and weight loss stalled. But Its moving again and I think its because I am finally able to get in more Protein and calories. I also walk about 2 miles and do a work out video at home about 5 days per week. So be patient. When you lose weight fast and then stop it’s your body’s natural reaction. Good luck!

    Not telling anyone

I told a few close coworkers when I felt comfortable in doing so. Of course my husband and kids know. One of my sisters and one of my best friends. I think that’s a lot of people. I’ve been laying low while I’m working on myself, inside and out, because I don’t need any outside noise, especially if it’s going to be negative. And you kinda know who’s gonna be supportive and who won’t. Tell whoever you feel comfortable with and be vigilant in protecting your peace and energy. If someone comes with that BS, stop them and let them know their opinion isn’t needed, in a nice way of course lol

    Pounds lost

Hi. We are surgery twins! I’m down about 22 lbs since surgery. Looks like we’re losing at the same rate too.

    Sweets

You’re lucky. Sweets are my nemesis
  10. 1. No longer letting food control my life/my life not revolving around food 2. Getting rid of my big girl clothes 3. Fitting on rollercoasters at the theme park 4. Not needing a seat belt extended on the plane/people not looking at me weirdly 5. More energy to do fun things with my kids 6. The look on the haters faces when I come through

    Return to Work after Surgery

I took 5 weeks. I would highly recommend that wls patients take as much time as they can to work on their health, including mental health.

GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+
+

We’re surgery twins! HW: 378 SW: 319.8 CW: 300. I lost a majority of that weight the first two weeks then it stopped/slowed at weeks 3 & 4. My nutritionist said it’s normal and that my body will go into self preservation mode throughout the process due to the rapid weight loss. I can fit comfortably into clothes that were uncomfortable or unbearable to wear before and I feel good. I went from a 28-30 to 22 already. I’m super excited to see where I’ll end up. This journey can get frustrating but I can’t rely solely on the scale to measure my progress.

    April 2019 Surgeries!

Nice! Did you hit a stall like I did? Because I had lost the first 18 lbs so quickly I hit a stall at week 3. My nutritionist said it’s my body going into self preservation mode. I stopped weighing myself daily and weigh in weekly. The scale finally moved (weighed last Sunday) and as of that day, I’m down 20 lbs all together.

    April 2019 Surgeries!

No. I lost about 18 lbs in approximately 2 weeks. I’ve lost about 20 or so lbs in the first month as my weight loss slowed because I had lost that weight so quickly.

Overeaters Anonymous - Should I go??

Also maybe Seeing a therapist individually is an option? I have been seeing one throughout this process and it’s been helpful

Overeaters Anonymous - Should I go??

Does the program you got wls through have a support group specifically for wls patients? I got my surgery through kaiser and they have one. Or maybe you should look for another group. Seems like you’re being judged before you even get there.

    Let's talk about body dysmorphia

I also never thought I was as big as the scale said but I was really big. One day I looked in the mirror and got disgusted with myself. I’ve lost 78 lbs since my highest weight, 20 Of which post op. I can see the difference in my body and clothes. I definitely agree with you that my body dysmorphia contributed to me being in denial about how big I actually was.

GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+
+

Luckily I haven’t had any issues with that. But good luck!

GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+
+

My heaviest was 378. I was 319.8 the day of surgery, 4/15/19, and now I’m at 300 even. I often look for other women who have the same stats as me to see what their experience is because I do feel like it’s different for the heavier girls like me. I know there are other factors that play a part like age and hormonal things. But for the most part, I feel good about my progress and look forward to continue working toward my goal weight of 185.
