Revision of RNY
LostFound21 replied to Notthe1sttime's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Sounds like maybe the surgeon intends to do a duodenal switch or something similar. I attended a WLS seminar and they said that's what the their surgeon usually uses for revision. I have my consult on August 21st but if that's what they suggest I'll go with it. -

Just like the title states, I am in the process of meeting with surgeons and trying to make a decision on revision surgery. Looking to hear about surgeons used and your experience. -

Wishing you a speedy recovery. I have an appointment with a surgeon closer to home August 21st. I have called to see if i can get in earlier but that was the earliest. I have to keep checking for cancellations. How long was the process to get to surgery from your first appointment? -

Revision of RNY

Thanks for this info. I never thought of a home health agency but its worth the cost to get this moving along. I even told the doctors office about my dilemma and they had no suggested that but maybe I'm the first patient who had this issue. I have some friends I could ask but they are not reliable and I fear I would be stuck the day of the procedure without someone able to be there. In my case since its quite a distance from home I would probably stay local in a hotel near the hospital if I go with the first surgeon I met with. I figured I would stay a few days in the event there are any issues afterwards, i would be close by. I am attending a WLS seminar at a local hospital to where i live next week, mostly to get more info on the support after and such. Then if i feel they fit my needs in that regard I will make an appointment with a surgeon there and see my options. I want to be successful this 2nd time around and I want to make sure I get all the info I need especially in areas where I failed 20 years ago. Here in New Jersey in the northern part of the state there are not as many surgeons doing revisions and if they mention it on their sites they explains how risky it is and they dont take many candidates which worries me if they don't have as much experience with revisions. Southern part of NJ I find sooo many options and I have people who respond to my posts with their experience. -

Revision of RNY

I haven't made a decision yet. I have only been able to find 1 person who had their original surgery with the surgeon I met with. She ended up going for revision in Mexico I believe. She didn't have bad things to say about the surgeon but she said his attitude is he did the surgery the rest is up to you so she suggested I find support groups and a nutritionist to see after since he does not provide that type of support. Those are two things I know I have to do to be successful regardless of the surgeon. I had asked his office if there were any revision patients who would speak with me about their experience but they have no gotten back to me in about a month now. I am going to meet with some surgeons in my area where I live and see what they recommend in regards to revision. The original surgeon I met with is 75 miles from where I live and I have found difficulty finding someone to come with me just for the endoscopy to even determine if the procedure is right for me. Its tough not having support through this process. I am hoping if I can find a surgeon closer to home it will be easier to find a friend who can drive me home after the endoscopy and ultimately the surgery. -
Revision of RNY
LostFound21 replied to Notthe1sttime's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I met with a surgeon last week about revision surgery. I had RNY over 20 years ago. I have gained almost all the weight back that I lost. The surgeon I met with suggest a laparoscopic plication to reduce the pouch size and also he will reduce the stoma. Then he will put lap-band over it but not use the lap-band and may never. He said the chances of me stretching the pouch again are high so the lap-band would be there and be ready for if and when i stop losing weight. Some surgeons here offer the revision with an endoscopic procedure to reduce the pouch size but have read that the weight loss is minimal and within a year ill be back gaining weight. The surgeon I met with last week explained he doesnt do the procedure that way anymore because of the low success rate. I haven't decided what I will do yet, still researching but if I go with the surgeon i met last week it will be all out of network so I want to make sure its the best choice of procedure since it will be costly. -
Has anyone gone to Dr. Vishal Mehta in NJ?
LostFound21 posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I have met with Dr. Mehta in his Princeton, NJ office and looking to see if anyone has used him before and would be willing to discuss their experience with me. I am specifically considering a revision and he suggest plication with lap-band over. This is all out of network for me and will be expensive and I want to make sure I am making the right decision. -
Lap band with plication removal
LostFound21 replied to Green1's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
I know this is an old thread but what was your reason for wanting the lap band removed? I met with a surgeon last week about revision surgery and he wants to do plication with lap-band over it, told me it was the best option to be successful this time. I see you are in NJ and I am as well.
