  1. I haven't found how to put the ticker on my signature, and think it may be because I'm not a mac? I was having a hard time getting 4 shakes a day (80 g protein), and have added non-fat skim milk powder, then the nutritionist suggested adding 3 egg whites/day if I only do 2 shakes. my doc allows non-starchy veggies, so I have been able to make soups, and have the broth and veggies from a venison stew that we make here in upstate NY (as long as I take out the potatos and venison). It's kept me sane, and no nausea. I was surprised to like the sugar-free jello!
  2. Hi Mes1012, I'm in Ithaca, NY with Dr. Mecenas, but my partner grew up in Port Jervis - Sparrowbush (small world). I'm being banded 1/20, and am doing ok on the liquid diet, though took 2 days off work to get adjusted (it was too hard day 1 with all the left over holiday food, etc. around the office). Good luck everyone! Nancy
  3. I saw the Gas-x strip suggestion, is this in place of Tums, or will it help disperse the gas that they put in the abdomen (that I understand causes shoulder pain?)? I have frozen shoulder pain already, so anything that will help disperse it quickly will be appreciated. Also, has anyone found liquid Claritin (or generic)?
  4. I'm being banded Jan 20 and am on day 5, I'm a BMI 53, but my doc has everyone follow the same 2 week pre-op liquid diet regardless of size or band vs. RNY.
  5. I'm a January 20th bander...the first day was tough, and I took 2 days off from work to figure it out at home (there were too many Cookies and other goodies and smells here at the office). I'm fine now on day 4, but having trouble getting enough Protein Shakes - they say I should have 4 per day and I can get 1.5-2 down. My nutritionist said to shoot for 2 drinks and add 3 egg whites a day. I've been enjoying having Soup and broth (venison stew without the venison & potatos!)...so haven't been nauseous.
  6. Me too! Actually, it started before the pre-op diet (I'm on day 4 of it, banding 1/20) - and I keep thinking what happens if it continues after surgery when we're sore already, and the abdominal muscles are not wanting to help!
  7. I agree Halo74, I threw away the rest of my first shake, it was so thick and I was at work...I will try tonight to make it into a shake with ice and a little skim milk to see if I can stand it.
  8. In the past few years every time I flew I just asked for the extender when I was entering the plane...it felt better than trying and having it not fit, and having the people around see that, and then catching the attendants's eye when they are trying to get everyone seated, going up to the front, getting the externder and then trying to find ME. Upon entering, the other folks are focused not on you, but finding their seat, and are likely not sitting with you. When I sit down and attach the externder, most people haven't noticed unless they are staring anyway. I had hoped to fly to St. Louis in April - and experience flight after losing weight...but I'll have to wait till next year (too costly right now).
  9. I'm being banded January 20 and today is my first liquid day...already I don't like the smell and taste of the Slimfast low carb, so will try something else. I know I need the protein, but don't have a blender at work.
  10. Thanks Teresa, at least I won't have to worry about what I"M WEARING to the occasion
  11. Oh - I forgot to say, I finally got my surgery date - January 20th! I had hoped for late December (like Christmas or New Year's eve week), but figure that if Obama can wait till January 20, so can I
  12. daqui26 I know what you're going through... my partner too is very scared, not only about me having the surgery (something could happen to me), or I could change (find someone else when I've lost weight), but the changes in the household with regard to food/eating/shopping. We are both heavy...but she won't read any of the literature, or the pre-and post-diet materials to learn about what's coming. She also won't come to a doctor appt. or support group meeting, so I am nervous about how much of a support will really be there (eventhough I hear "I'm supporting your decision eventhough I don't agree with it now). Nancy
  13. I got my date recently - January 20th! Barack and I will begin our new lives together
  14. Ok, I thought I'd be a December bander, but today got my date and I have to wait till January 20th!! I'm so disappointed, it'll be harder now with work (I work at a University and the students are away in late December and first 2 weeks of January)...but I'm trying to look on the bright side.
  15. I just got my insurance approval, so the reality of a December date just became much more real!
  16. Hi again, I am progressing through the steps, and still hope for a December or January date. The support groups have been really great.
  17. My doctor usually will schedule about 2-3 weeks out, but they are planning to submit to my insurance for approval as soon as they get one more thing from my primary doctor. I'm really hoping that Late December or early January is a reasonable time...I will NOT be happy if I need to wait till summer (this has to get in and approved for this winter).
  18. I hope to be a December or early January bandie! My bday is 12/31, so I figure it'll be my gift to myself, and as long as I get to eat at Thanksgiving, I can get through the Christmas holidays at home. At work? That's ANOTHER story. If I'm on liquids at that point it'll make it easier, for me it'll be all or nothing!
  19. Thank you for posting this, I too was told in my first consultation (in July 08) that I need the RNY, and believed it for awhile. Since then I attended several support group sessions with RNY folks and Lap Band folks to learn more, and have come full circle to the band. I wasn't totally opposed to RNY if it truly was a better choice for me (or only choice)...but have since come around to the reasons that I decided on the band in the first place. I appreciate hearing from the others who are already banded, I'm hoping to get a December or January surgery date. Nancy
