I live in Texas, and after the first week, I started noticing how cold I was getting. Usually it gets really hot in our house at night, so we have a fan that sits next to the bed. I've woken up under layers of covers. So, it's an advantage in the summer. We'll see how it goes when it gets cold. Of course it's only cold here for like 2 days out of the year.

how often did you feel buyers remorse having the surgery
Stitches78 replied to johnedwin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The pain sucked...but I think after a week and a half it was more of an annoyance. It's been 3 weeks, and I still have a little twinge here and there. And if I bend over for too long, I notice it. But, really, I don't regret it. I've lost 40 pounds. My clothes don't fit. The only thing I have a problem with is knowing when to stop. It's like 1 bite makes me feel full. But really, I think about how much better I already feel, and how much better it's going to get, and it keeps me going. -
I can tell you that I feel that weakness as well. I came home from the hospital yesterday and felt great. I even walked to the mailbox (which is up a hill a few blocks away). But today, i was too tired to walk down the street. So I've been sticking to the inside since it's almost to 100 here. I found that drinking water and brother seems to help. But yeah, take it easy. You gotta find the balance. You don't want to push yourself too hard.

2 days post surgery stomach pain
Stitches78 replied to Alwzla8's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well, I got mine done on Wednesday...no hernias. But I have had really bad acid reflux since then. It hurt s when I drink water. But I've been able to get most of it down. Is it possible you're experiencing reflux? I get some antacids. -
I have water on me at all times. I was up walking most of the night. My wife stayed with me and between me getting up to pee every five minutes, and the people coming to take blood, bother of us got sleep. But, I'm really happy to not have to much pain. Just sore.

I have been doing good with walking. It does really help. I think the biggest challenge is getting all the water down.

I just got home from the hospital. Surgery went smooth. Gas pain is the worst part. But at least I'm home

June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Getting ready to go to hospital. Yikes -
Tomorrow is the big day. On Sunday afternoon, I started getting pain in my right leg. It feels like I ran 40 miles carrying 100 pounds of weight on my right leg. I'm not sure if it might be from dehydration or maybe because I'm not getting my usual vitamins since I've been on the diet. It feels better sometimes. But there is no pattern to it. Anyone else have fun leg pain?

I'm going Wednesday. I want to be done already. Work is dragging on because I'm anxious. -
Waiting period for insurance... is this the norm with most?
Stitches78 replied to MysticHippie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had to do 6 months, with nutrition classes and a visit with a shrink. It's pretty normal. -
1 week away. Just started the pre-op diet. How does one keep from tearing peoples heads off? It's only been a few hours and I'm already feeling crabby.

This is something that was in the material my doctor gave me. About half of our patients notice some hair loss at 3-5 months after surgery, and half don’t notice any change. Sometimes the hair loss can be worrisome; the hairbrush fills every time, the shower and clothes and car are all covered with hair, etc. We believe this is caused by a response of the body to the stress and semi-starvation of the first few weeks after surgery. The hair loss begins as the hair roots “wake up” and begin to grow new hair, which pushes out the old. The hair loss usually lasts for 4-8 weeks. We do occasionally see patients whose hair visibly thins a bit, but very few patients have required wigs. Your hair will return to its normal thickness (probably with improved texture) over time. The best way to help your hair recover is to take the recommended supplements and to be sure your diet is protein-focused.

Foodies - honestly how bad is it?

This whole post has been good to read. I'm having surgery in 2 weeks. I have IBS and already have issues. However, I've been on medication and I've been taking a probiotic. It seems to help a lot and ever since I started doing that I have rarely had any IBS issues. My friend takes the same probiotic and has had improvement...so I think that might be important. I also took peppermint oil for awhile. That was helpful. Anyways, I keep seeing that everyone is different, and I hope to not have as much aggravation. Put I'm thinking the probiotics are a big help. I never believed in them until my nutritionist recommended me trying them. Oh, and I'm looking forward to cooking with better ingredients. I've already figured that I'll be saving money on food by not eating out that often and buying less...so I might as well buy better quality food. -
You're not alone in all this. Just remember that. I went and saw my regular doctor today. He was telling me how much better I was going to feel. Hearing those kinds of things ease the fear a bit.

My surgery is 3 days after yours, and I'm feeling all those emotions. It's enough that it's a surgery, but it's something that will change your life. I've been big ever since I was a kid. I was a skinny kid, and then I turned into a fat kid. Food has been a huge part of my life. But, I keep reminding myself that this is for my health and my overall well being. It's not just so I look good. I already look good (I kid). But I want to feel better. I don't want to be tired and I don't want to feel uncomfortable. That's what I keep reminding myself of. I am having a huge amount of anxiety...but, from what I've heard, that's normal. So remember that. Only you can determine if you're ready. YOu must be, because if not, you wouldn't be at this point. You can do it, and it will all be ok.

Telling family, friends, work, etc.

My mom is under the impression it's just a quick fix. She doesn't seem to understand the amount of work that goes into it. Oh well, it's happening either way. -

My wife went with me to the first visit with the surgeon. My parents hated the idea, but my mom is one of those people who think they know more about medicine that doctors. In fact, when I told her, she said something like "well maybe it's X Y or Z?" I told her I was tested for those things and she said that the doctors were all wrong. Other than that, I've told my close my close friends, but nobody else. At work I was vague as to why I was going to be gone for 2 weeks. -
My approval went through on a Friday. The surgeons office called me on the following Monday morning to schedule everything. I scheduled mine for a little over a month later due to prior commitments. My surgeons office told me they have up to a month, but most of the time it gets approved much faster.

Depends on your insurance. I got approval in a week.

I'm having my surgery on June 5th. My insurance had me do that whole dance of going to a therapist and nutritionist for several months before they approved it. I was cleared in April, and set my date for June so I could go on vacation and do a few other things before the surgery. It still had not sunk in that this was happened. Yesterday, I got email from my doctors office with what I needed to do next. Get my labs done, start my diet a week out, and my last appointment and class with my surgeon. That really hit, and I'm excited, and very nervous. My anxiety is at a 10 right now. I just got off the phone with the hospital and I paid them (bonus: I hit my out of pocket max for the year!), and now it's just really hitting hard. I don't think I've felt this much anxiety in years...and that says a lot since I'm an obsessive compulsive. So I need to really keep focused so I don't flip out and run away screaming. I'm guessing this is a normal reaction?

My wife is really awesome. She's been very involved in everything and it means a ton. My Mom is one of those people who thinks they know better than the doctor. The only reason I even got to where I am is because my doctor, whom I had been working on weight issues for years, decided this might be the best way to go. We had tried diets and exercise, and it just never really took. I lose a few pounds and then just get stuck. And to say this is an easy way out is a joke. I know the amount of work it's going to take, and I'm prepared for it. It's going to be hard, but I know how I am, and I can do this. I just gotta keep calm until then.

I have a feeling I'll probably be like that the day I go in. I won't sleep the night before, I'll be a wreck. But, I have to keep telling myself it's going to be worth it, and it's all going to be ok. Glad you got through it all!

My surgeon has been great. He gave me his phone number and email and has been available to answer any questions I've had. Everyone at the office has been great. Even the receptionists. So, I feel like I made a good choice. My wife is super supportive. She made me a book with recipes and she's even going to follow a similar diet. My parents think I'm being stupid...so I just don't mention it to them. But, I feel like I have the support I need. I've read about all the risks, and even though I know the chances are slim, I still worry. But I get anxious going to my yearly physical...so yeah. I think I'll be ok. I just need to get myself relaxed. I know it's going to be hard after. I used to be addicted to other things, and I've been able to give them up...but food is different. You need food to live and it's readily available. I think my biggest issue has always been that feeling of hunger. Hopefully that won't be as much of an issue. Oh, and I'm glad to know pb fit can be used. We actually buy it and eat it regularly. Thanks for the words. It's good to know I'm not alone in the anxiety game.

Well, I had to go through a bunch of hoops that my insurance laid down before I could get it done. It took 6 months, and then I delayed it a few months because I had some things I had to take care of before I could be laid up for a couple of weeks. So that might make the decision for you. But I think overall, it's a personal preference. I personally would wait until after I went to Europe because I wouldn't want to risk ruining things. But that's just me.
