8 years post op, following GBP RNY surgery. I live in the UK, I am an NHS patient. I was clinically obese, type 2 diabetic and suffered with acid reflux disease. My surgery was fast tracked as I was deemed a perfect candidate. Within three months I experienced drastic weight loss but then developed internal defects. My bowel was herniated on three different occasions, all requiring corrective surgery.
I now live with constant pain, food intolerance, malnutrition, nerve damage, anxiety and depression. I miss the "skinny girl" I became for a short time. I am now overweight and too sick to work again. Do I regret the operation? YES!! The surgery was sold to me as "lifechanging and the best thing that could happen to me," by my doctors. Now they want nothing to do with me as they would rather protect their perfect records of success.
