  1. Hi:

I found your info and wanted to say that you are an inspiration to all of us.

I do have a few questions that I'm hoping you will answer for me.

I was banded in June and have lost 40 lbs so far.

Is that enough weight loss for 4 months?

I've had two fills, but fill no restriction unless I eat too fast or don't chew enough. The last fill, my physician said that there was enough to have another tiny fill and that's it in the future. Should I get another fill?

I've started walking on the treadmill, how long did it take you to get up to running? Did that really work with making you loose the weight?

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure I'm on the right track.

    Rhonda

  2. I would recommend Dr. Cribbins at Presby Plano. I really like his attitude and professionalism. The entire office is there to help you. I would highly recommend Dr. Cribbins to anyone.

    Nausea and lightheadedness

I too am three weeks post op and had this problem about a week after surgery. My Physician and the Barriatric Coordinator thought it might be my blood sugar bottoming out and had me drink tea with regular sugar instead of with artificial sweetner. They also said that if it got too bad to open a packet of sugar and put it on my tongue. It seemed to help and I am past that stage so far. I would definitely check with you Physician to see what he says before doing anything.
  4. I am 2 1/2 weeks post banding and I have lost 23 lbs so far which I'm really excited about, but for the past week I have not lost anything and I'm following the diet completely. My Barriatric Coordinator wants me to loose about 2 lbs per week. How can you not loose weight when I'm on a full liquid diet and not eating that much? Am I doing something wrong?:confused2:
  5. I was banded on 6/24 and planned to be back at work this past Monday. There was absolutely no way I could do it. In fact I am taking the rest of the week off and I'm so glad I'm doing that. Today is the first day that I actually feel a little more human. Hopefully tomorrow is even better. Good luck to you!
  6. I'm 7 days post op and I have not started to burp yet and have intense shoulder pain. The Gas X strips do not work at all. I try to burp, but nothing happens and don't feel like I even need to. Is this something to be concerned about?

Is this how I will always feel?

Just a little about myself: I have been overweight most of my life and have tried diet after diet to little or no success. I found out that Tricare Prime finally decided to pay for LapBand Surgery. I immediately contacted my PCM for a referral which was granted before leaving his office. A weel later visited with the surgeon and was approved for surgery before I even got home for the visit. I followed the full liquid diet to the letter and lost 12 lbs. Tuesday June 24th was my surgery date. I was so scared going back and forth on if I had made the right decision for me. Of course once they started the IV it was a done deal. The surgery went fine even with finding a hiatel hernia that had to be repaired and am a little more sore than I thought I would be. Now my problems. I have been nauseated for days (no vomiting, yet) and I'm not sure what is causing it. I just generally don't feel well. I see other people on the forum that say they are up and around and feeling great just a couple of days after surgery. Everyone seems so chipper and has a positive outlook and excited. I don't feel any of those things. I'm trying to remain positive, and keep trying to convince myself that this is only temporary, but go back to my original question, was this the right decision for me and is this how I will always feel? I'm scheduled to go back to work Monday, but the way I feel now, I'm just not sure and I can't miss anymore work. I can only hope that things get better from here.

Is this how I will always feel?

Today is Day 6 of being banded. Yesterday I was not nauseated at all and today it's when I drink water. I have never been a big water drinker before, so I'm not sure what the problem is with that. I was suppose to go back to work today but decided to give it another day because I am feeling shaky and weak. Boy I wish I was bouncing back like everyone else seems to do as I can't afford to be down much longer. Not only do I need to go back to work, but my daughter is pregnant and although she is due on the 24th of July, she told me this morning that she is loosing her mucous plug. Of course it could be any minute to a week or so before she goes into labor. I just want to feel half way normal again! I know that sounds stupid after wanting the lapband for so long, but it goes back to my original questions, is this how I will always feel?
  9. I also had an On-Q bag. I had surgery on Tuesday and they released me on Wednesday from the hospital with the bag. The Barriatric Coordinator told me that by Saturday I could remove myself and gave me the instructions, but when she called to check on me Friday, it was leaking on my clothes and she said to go ahead and remove which I did. There was absolutely no pain when removing it.

Is this how I will always feel?

I haven't been able to burp at all. There are times that I wish I could, but just can't seem to do it. My doctor called in some Phenergan syrup for me yesterday afternoon and I took that and I seem to feel a little better today, let's hope it stays that way. I don't get to eat any solid food until August 1st, it's full liquids until that time with a few muschies in a couple of weeks.

Is this how I will always feel?

Thanks everyone for your support. My pain is not bad enough to take the pain meds, but my Physician called me in some Phenergan this afternoon, so hopefully it will get better. I thought it might be gas that was causing the nausea, so I've been trying to walk more but nothing happens. I feel like I need to burp, but can't. Not quite sure what to do about that. Thanks again
  12. Thank you so much for your words of support. I'm totally feeling like I've make a very large mistake. When I get nauseated, I feel like I need to lay down and unless this subsides by Monday, I wont be able to do that. I think I made my decision based on this site because all these people were saying what a breeze it was how happy they are and how much weight they have lost and how much better they feel. Even though my job is not in the same capacity as you, I do work the medical field as a Business Operations Manager for all of the outpatient clinics at a large hospital in Dallas. I have to go back to work Monday. I can't afford to miss anymore days, as my daughter is pregnant and due the end of July, but will probably be induced before then.

Again thank you, I hope you don't mind if I message you if it starts to get rough again.

    Anyone in Dallas Tx

I'm now 4 days post op. I'm still having nausea (no vomiting, yet) and a lot of pain which I think is gas. This is going to be TMI, but here goes anyway, I have not had a BM since before surgery. My physician said to take Milk of Magnesia. I opened the bottle and the smell of this stuff was enough to make me gag, so since I'm already feeling nauseated, I think I will pass. How long will this just not felling well last? I'm to go back to work Monday as I was assured that I would be fine by that time as long as I have a job where I'm not pushing or pulling anything. Any suggestions?

I was banded on Tuesday the 24th. Had to stay in the hospital over night and got out Wednesday afternoon. I'm doing o.k. so far. They determined that I had a hiatel hernia that had to be repaired as well as getting the band, so needless to say I think I'm a little more sore than I thought I would be. I have been drinking 2 oz of broth every hour as per my Physicians instructions. What I have found this morning is that I'm not hungry at all. I drank some Water because my mouth was extremely dry and then tried the broth, but find that I feel a little bit nauseated and I'm not sure if I can I can handle the broth this morning. Is this normal?

    GNC's 100% Whey Protein

I drink the New Whey Liquid Protein Bullets from GNC in Fruit Punch flavor during my pre-op diet. They have 42 g in each bullet and my nutrtionist has me drinking 1 1/2 per day.

    cheryl

Hi Cheryl: I am on Day 10 of Pre-Op liquid diet. It was very hard for me as well when I began. I was having headaches, light headedness and nausea, but it does get easier as the days go on. For me, once I got over the caffeine and carb withdrawals it was easier. Now, I'm not saying that it's not a struggle every day because it is, but what I am saying is that it does get easier. I make sure I drink my Protein between meals which helps and I am constantly drinking Water. Just keep thinking positive and you will make it. Rhonda

Thanks for the support. I'm glad it's almost over. I am a little concerned with only loosing 8 lbs. I would have thought I would loose more.

    Anyone in Dallas Tx

Ok, so I'm on Day six of my two week pre-op diet. I've lost 8 lbs so far, but boy it has been more difficult than I thought it would be. I am on a full liquid diet with Protein drink in between meals. I am having headaches, not a whole lot of energy and feeling nauseated. Is this normal? I never expected this process to be easy, but will this be the way it is after being banded? I actually feel terrible. Any advise?

    whey protein bullets

I too use the Whey Protein Bullets and really like them. I was concerned that the proten portion of the diet would be awful, but have found that the Fruit Punch is great!.

Tricare Prime and Dallas/Fort Worth Texas

My PCM is Dr. Mike Lee in Frisco. He was great. I went to see him, and he put my referral in the same day and it was approved before I left his office. For the surgeon I am using Dr. Joseph Cribbin with Presby Plano and they put in for the authorization on the same day as my consultation and it was approved by the time I got home that day. I understand that some people are not that lucky but I don't think it takes more than a few days. Dr. Cribbins is requiring me to stay overnight. I'm not sure if it's a Tricare requirement or not. Hope that helped.

Tricare Prime and Dallas/Fort Worth Texas

I have Tricare and my surgeon is Dr. Joseph Cribbins with Presby Plano. They have a great program and I really like Dr. Cribbins. I am scheduled for the procedure on the 24th. Tricare has approved everything except for the Nutrition appt. that is required, but I was willing to pay that out of pocket. Email me if you would like more information.

    Tricare approved me!

I went for my consultation today, the coordinator submitted for approval to Tricare today. Checked the Humana Military website for status of my referral for the Psych Consult and found that my surgery has already been approved! Extremely excited and hope to get my surgery scheduled for the last week of June.
