    Definition of "throwing up"

With PB'ing you are simply belching and food comes up. It is not retching like when you vomit so the actual act of PB'ing is not as stressful to your stomach/band. But yes, if you make a habit of eating fast, not chewing well and eating too much etc. (all of which can lead to PB'ing), then you can damage your band as well.

    Too much fill?

You should be able to get solid foods down when the doctor says it is OK to be back on solids after a fill (for me four days later). You don't want to be so tight that you cannot. If you cannot get solids down after a week call your doctor. You don't want to stay too tight and just wait until your stomach shrinks to get relief.

    Definition of "throwing up"

It is the gagging and the retching you want to avoid. The motion of the stomach during retching can cause the band to slip.

    Pre-op Plan

Welcome!!! The pre-op and post-op diets vary from doctor to doctor. Most are on liquids but not all. Your dietician should have been specific enough that you do not doubt exactly what and how much you are supposed to eat. If you are not 100% sure, give them a call.

    Hello, and questions...

GasX does not help this kind of pain. GasX will only get rid of gas inside your digestive tract and that is not the kind of gas causing your pain. The cause is the gas that is in your abdominal cavity, not inside any of your organs. While you were having surgery, your surgeon filled your abdominal cavity with gas/air. They do this to separate your organs and make more room to work. They are usually not able to get all of that air out before they close you up and the air typically settles near the left shoulder causing pain. Eventually your tissues will absorb it and your lungs will expel it. Stretching and breathing helps most people, moving around helps too. It won't last forever but could come and go for a month or two.

    question on restriction....

I have never eaten so soon after a fill, but I have been pretty tight for several days after a fill. You should take it easy and give it a few days but you don't want to feel that way all the time. If you are still too tight after a week go see your doctor again for a slight unfill.
  9. Thanks Nina, I love my band! LOL, I actually just a few minutes ago, commented about your weight loss in the "Liquid Calories" thread. You are doing great too!
  10. Jodi_620

    Please Help me!!!!

If you choose lean meats and Beans and cook them properly (grill, bake or broil) and considering the quantity that you will be eating you shouldn't be concerned with cholesterol at all. Eggbeaters has no cholesterol. Fish, white meat chicken and turkey are low in fat and cholesterol. And due to all the soluable fiber in beans, they can actually help lower cholesterol. (good choices are navy, pinto, black, chickpea, and butter beans). There are plenty of lowfat/low cholesterol recipes online, just Google it. cheese should be used sparingly and you can get the Lowfat varities.

    Liquid Calories

Hi NinaWoo, My transition was the opposite. By the time I was ready for solids, I had no restriction and could eat like I had no band at all. I am assuming you have not had a fill yet. As the swelling from surgery goes down your band will probably feel less tight and as little more weight comes off your stomach will also lose fat and the band will get a little looser. (Unless you are one of the lucky few that can get along for a long time witout a fill. ) Good Luck...it looks like you are doing great with your weight loss!

  13. Jodi_620

    Not Satisfied, Why??

Is it physical hunger or head hunger? What types of foods do you typically eat and how much?
  14. Jodi_620

    Liquid Calories

Nine months post-op, you really don't need to use liquid as a meal unless you have just had a fill. You are not getting full on them because they flow right through your band and out of your pouch pretty quickly whereas the chicken breast will stay in your pouch and keep you satisfied for a few hours (four-five for me) My doctor encourages solid protein for all three meals to keep me full longer. For me, protein shakes are only supposed to be used as supplements between my three solid meals.
  15. I was at my surgeon's office for my nutrition class and checked for status with the insurance coordinator on my way out. She hadn't heard anything. I got home and checked my mail and found the approval letter from my insurance company. After doing my happy dance around the house , I immediately called the insurance coordinator who had just gotten her mail and received the letter the same day.

    So many questions -

I had my surgery on a Friday and work a desk job too. There is no way I would have been ready to go back to work on the following Monday. Based on what I read here and heard at my seminar, I requested Monday and Tuesday off tentatively but I actually didn't make it back to work until Thursday and even then only worked 1/2 days on Thursday and Friday. I was back to full days the second Monday. To be safe, I would prepare my employer by requesting a week, if you can go back sooner fine, but at least prepare for the possibility of being out longer. Your medical business is yours. You don't have to tell anyone about the surgery. Just tell them you are having minor surgery, if they are nosey enough to ask for more details and you don't want to be blunt, tell them it is gallbladder surgery. I would think that most bariatric surgeons can do a fill or at least have someone in their office to do fills.
  17. Jodi_620

    consultaion... CHECK!!

I chose my surgeon first. I had to go to my primary care doctor for a consult/approval letter along with bloodwork and an EKG which was ordered by my surgeon, it is better to wait until you get orders from your surgeon and get this done in one trip if possible. Unless you are referring to getting a referral to see your surgeon. With my PCP, when I had HMO insurance, I would have to call and ask them for a referral to see a specialist. They would take down the information over the phone and then call me when the referral letter was ready to be picked up.
  18. PatticNJ, I think that your last post explains the cause of both your hairloss and your stalled weight loss. I am not sure what your doctors guidelines are, but my doctor would tell you that you are too tight and need more nutrition and more calories. If you only eat Protein, can't eat before noon and can barely eat a half a chicken breast, there is no way you are getting in enough protein or calories. I hardly think that 1/2 cup eggs w/cheese (112 cal) , 1 fish filet (120 cal) and 1/2 hamburger patty with 1/2 c Beans (210 cal) is too much food for one day. All of that adds up to less than 500 calories. Add an 11oz can Worldwide shake (160 cal) and a 3 oz shot of protein (100 cal) and it is a grand total of 702 calories. Even that falls below what many sucessful bandster here get in one day. You need the protein and other nutrients to stop the hairloss and you need calories to burn fat, so you need to eat more to get your weight loss going again.

    Confused

This same topic was dicussed earlier today: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f178/worried-about-not-feeling-full-no-fill-yet-76899/ Basically, you eat until you are satisfied/no longer hungery. You will eat more until you get a fill.

  21. Yes, I have the Lap Band. I didn't have many health issues, just PCOS and I have been off my Metformin since surgery and all of my PCOS symptoms have improved most have disappeared. I go to see my Endo in November for bloodwork to make sure that my PCOS is in remission. I also had back and knee pain that is gone now and I sleep more comfortably at night. I had mine done about four months ago and I am down 49 pounds and half way to my goal weight already. I have had no problems with the procedure. I was back to work within a week and feeling great within two weeks.
  22. This is very normal. The band is inside you but since you have not had any fills, you have not begun to use it yet. A lot of people worry at this stage thinking that because they are eating more, they have caused the band to slip or become damaged. Of course you don't want to eat until you are stuffed but eat until you are no longer hungry and eat slowly, small bites, chew well etc. and you will be just fine. It may take a fill or two but you will start to feel it working soon. Until then, you are working on sheer willpower.

  25. It wasn't connected to your fill. It takes about three months for hair loss to happen and approx three months for hair loss to resolve itself once you find and correct the cause. If we go back three months, we see that you probably started your pre-op diet almost exactly three months ago and your surgery was right around that time. So your connection is very likely to be there. Our bodies will shut down taking care of the unnecessary things when it detects trauma. Hair is not necessary for survival so that is one of the first things to go. It could have been that you were not getting enough Protein starting with your pre-op diet. Make sure you are getting 60 or more grams of protein a day. Lack of B Vitamins and other nutrients can be the cause too. Make sure you are taking a good quality daily Vitamin every day you should also take a Calcium supplement with Vitamin D added. If you are positive that you were not lacking in those areas in the past three months then it could have simply been the surgery itself that caused your body to go into a panic and in that case, the problem will resolve itself. I had hair loss start a little over 1 month ago. I upped my protein to 100+ grams a day and started taking Biotin. The hair loss has slowed quite a bit and according to my research and my surgeon, it should resolve itself very soon.
