saltine crackers
Jodi_620 replied to itsallaboutMEb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Didn't your doctor give you any anti-nausea scrips? I had little tiny pills that I disolved on my tongue. Call and ask what they recommend, you don't want to let it get to the point where you are throwing up...especially during the weekend. -
physiology of the process???
Jodi_620 replied to necerae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You eat, fill up your pouch, feel full and at proper restriction that food will slowly slip through the band over several hours keeping you satisfied during this time...imagine an hourglass except the top part(the pouch) is much smaller than the bottom part. The stuck feeling and PBing, at least for me, is because the food can not pass from the esophagus into the pouch properly...this is happening above the pouch.(Usually caused by too big a bite, eating too fast, or eating too much). Sliming is more what happens when the food gets stuck trying to pass through the band itself, this happens less often for me; it happens BIG TIME if I take a pill that is too big to pass through the band. -
My vote is for either a Christmas or New Year challenge.

How do I avoid mental hunger?
Jodi_620 replied to karebare714's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you watching your simple carbs? They are a huge culprit of head hunger for me. I do eat the good carbs fruit, green veggies, milk and limited whole grains. But I won't touch the strachy high glycemic ones like potato, corn, Pasta, rice, white flour and sugar. Just a little and my head hunger goes wild. The best cure for boredom, weight loss AND head hunger is physical activity. I don't sit and watch TV anymore--other than dinnertime I don't sit still period. I exercise, go for a walk or start a project around the house. I have stopped watching TV so much and keep as active as possible in the evenings And I have gotten so much accomplished! I come home from work, go for a walk or do my workout, get dinner out of the way then start a project. I am so tired by bedtime that I just want to go to sleep. During the warm months I got all kinds of gardening projects done in the yard, remodeled my patio and organized the garage and tool shed, painted the shutters... Now that the weather is colder, I am working inside going room by room and completely organizing, cleaning closets and organizing drawers, painting ceilings and walls, organizing, cleaining carpets waxing floors...the whole nine yards. The only TV watching I get is in the background while I am keeping busy. I rarely think about food in between meals like I used to and I credit that to watching my carbs and keeping busy. -
How much do you think I can lose????
Jodi_620 replied to flagirlintx's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think that it would be difficult to expect to lose that much weight during that time. You are setting a goal to lose 4.5-5 pounds a week until December 22nd and that does not seem realistic or healthy. And if you can lose that fast, besides being unhealthy it would be difficult for your skin to keep up and you could end up looking like a deflated balloon  As I know you realize, you can't guage your weight loss by anothers. But I weighed 234 at the start of my journey so we were within 15 pounds of one another. I lost 13 pounds during my two week pre-op diet then averaged 2 pounds a week after that hitting some plateaus along the way. I would say that I have been fairly aggressive with my weight loss. I have had four fills and push for my doc to keep me well restricted and I have stuck to my eating plan almost perfectly. I have also done my daily exercise. So, I just looked back through my entries in the "Hallow-Lean challange" and I see that I hit the 40 pound mark (including pre-op weight loss) on August 30th. That would have been 13 weeks post-op/15 weeks counting the pre-op stage. Your goal is to do the same in only 8 weeks. Don't set your goals too high. Plan your vacation knowing that this will be the last one where you have to worry about such things and just have a great time. -
Stomach spasms??? Or hunger?
Jodi_620 replied to JamieNP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really can't offer you any specific answers to what it is, I can only tell you that it is normal. My body did all kinds of new and strange things during that time. I would have gurgling and noises and sensations that I couldn't definitively define as hunger or gas on top of other odd twitches and pains. It did get better though. -
Got lap band solution but still in dilemma...
Jodi_620 replied to alicez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As you can see from the responses, it just depends on where you go. My surgeons self-pay cost is $17,500.00 (surgery, outpatient hospital, anesthesiology, psych and nutritionist...no free fills. ) -
Sorry to hear that you are not well, hope you feel better soon.

:grouphug: I'll just agree to disagree and allow this thread to go back to its intended topic...

Pre-Op Anesthesiologist (sp?) Appt?
Jodi_620 replied to Michele777's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my pre-op with the surgeon in his office about a week prior to surgery. He went over my bloodwork and EKG and reviewed the whole process. The nurse went over how to get pre-admitted to the hospital and surgery aftercare. And they took my downpayment for surgery. I didn't meet with the anesthesiologist until the day of surgery, he came into the pre-op room and introduced himself and went over what he would be doing. -
Probably not but you should call and ask.

You have a right to believe that abortion=murder. BUT just because a person (politician or otherwise) is pro-choice, it doesn't mean that they personally choose abortion.

Unsupportive Spouse
Jodi_620 replied to Dragonflies74's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Also remind him of what an extra 120-140 pounds is going to do to your wallets when the health conditions start to come. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease can really put a dent in the wallet. I am saving money since the surgery...stopped smoking, stopped eating out so much, food bill is less, and due to my weight loss, I am off one of the two prescriptions I was on. My husband has also become healthier due to my changes in shopping and cooking. He is not overweight but his cholesterol was high..it has been cut in half with no meds. I am more energetic, get tons done around the house and I am happier (which makes the hubby happier too). In less than five months I can honestly say it has been worth every penny. -
I agree with ReadySteadyGo. You have offically lost your power in the debate once you have resorted to calling those on the opposing side baby killers. If you want to make a valid point of view you need to discuss your differences with intelligence and respect. Like Susan, I have never had an abortion and I never could-that is my personal choice. However I don't feel that I have a right to try and force others to see things my way. That makes me pro-choice but not a baby killer. In my opinion, abortion is just a polarizing issue that is used to keep people distracted from other issues. Anyone that thinks that either candidate is going to change abortion is fooling themselves. It has been a huge debate election-after-election and no matter which side manages to get their candidate in, nothing has changed and nothing will.

As a rule, we should not snack between meals. But we are all human and every once in while we do need a little snack. Of course you have to keep your senses about you and make sure you do not go crazy with it. Make sure it is a band-friendly choice. And keep these indulgences to a minimum...say two or three times a week. I keep sugar free popsicles and fudgsicles for sweet Snacks but mostly go for South Beach Protein bars because it gives me my goody fix and I get a little extra protein (they come in Peanut Butter, chocolate and cinnamon raisin). But I have never eaten a full bar at one time. I break off half a bar and tell myself if I want the rest later, I can have it. The half bar always does the trick though. I have had a couple (Two) crackers with cheese when I really "needed" a salty carb. In addition to my three meals per day, I also have a mid-morning Protein shake. I don't consider that snacking though, it is to me, a protein supplement AND because I have an early start to my day, I have breakfast at 6:00 AM and lunch at 12:30PM so the shake helps to keep me from getting too hungry before lunch.

I think I'm eating tooo much
Jodi_620 replied to Marcie1997's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said that most of his patients gain 5-10 pounds during this period. Yes being hungry is normal, your first fill should help at least a little...it may take a couple fills before you really start feeling it. -
Spicy foods are not restricted for me. I have always loved hot foods but because we can't drink with our meals I try to avoid it...gotta have a drink with the hot stuff! I did have changes but not for spicy. I crave fish and had never been a real fish eater before.

Newbie With A Lot of Questions
Jodi_620 replied to Wicket's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Look for a seminar in your area and attend one. That is absolutely the best way to learn about the procedure. Mine was at the local hospital and was about two hours long. Most people just stop losing weight as they reach their goal and no longer need adjustments. The band will be left as-is once your reach your goal. Some people do need a slight unfill to stop the weight loss at goal. And down the road if you find yourself gaining weight, you go back for another adjustment. It is meant to be for life. -

Sorry to hear of your hard times. Yeah, I agree. You really need to put your foot down. This is nothing to take lightly and your doctor should not be ignoring it like that.

When I am restricted where I like to be, the food goes down slowly and if I eat too fast I get a gurgling sensation that tells me SLOW DOWN NOW!, At proper restriction I also fill up on a small plate of food and I don't get hungry for at least five hours. I have had four fills and scheduled my fifth for next Tuesday. The first did nothing, the second and third gave me restriction but once I lost weight the restriction was lost(within about two weeks). The fourth fill was just over a month ago and I am just now losing my restriction and seeing myself eating a little more which tells me I need a fill. As a matter of fact, I called to schedule my next fill just a few minutes ago.

Two weeks for me.

Just a simple question ?
Jodi_620 replied to TheWatcher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Wow, now that would make it hard for me to get enough liquids in! 3 hrs times three meals per day is 9 waking hours without liquids. Considering I can't drink an hour before bed (unless I want to disturb my sleep with bathroom trips) and the 8 hours per day that I sleep, that would leave less than six hours per day to hydrate(also have to take out approx 1 1/2 hours or so for the time that you are actually eating without a drink too, so it would actually be something like 4.5 hours). That would be rough!
