Jazzy, you sound like you are in a good place right now...I think you are going to do great! As far as getting nervous, I think we all do, I know I did. I chose the band because it is not as extreme and it is reversible. With bipass there is no undoing things if there are complications. Also another thing to consider...since I have been banded I have seen and read about several people that had bipass and are now getting banded because the weight started coming back. I have no regrets.

Yep, a while back someone cleverly dubbed this "The Last Supper Syndrome" I did the same thing for the final week before my pre-op diet. Every night I ate a favorite meal and a lot of it and I grazed on all my favorite foods and junk. It is normal but keep in mind that once you get through this you will be able to eat these foods again just not a lot at one time.

Need More Band Fills
Jodi_620 replied to nana2three's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It really depends on the individual. The best information I can provide is that on average it takes around four fills to get to your "sweet spot". But some people need more and some less, some people can lose most or all their excess weight without a fill. I have had five fills so far. First fill did nothing, second did much better, third was great but after I lost significant weight it got loose again, fourth was the same situation as the third and the fifth has me pretty restricted. -
I don't understand "getting stuck"
Jodi_620 replied to midwestchickie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
With a productive burp you are burping up the undigested food (or in my case, I can't burb but I hiccup and the food comes up). It is not like throwing up in that it is just undigested food coming back up...no stomach acid. -
I did too. Had surgery in May and my hair was falling out really bad by August. It is all growing back now and I am not sure because they are short little spikes of hair right now but it seems to be coming in thicker. My hair has always been baby fine and on the thin side so that would be great!

November 30th will be my six month anniversary. So far I have lost 64 pounds and am only 33 pounds from goal! I hope to have those numbers up to 67/30 by the 30th. Healthwise, I feel so much better. Because I also had Hiatal Hernia repair during surgery I was able to quit smoking. I have not had any caffeine and with watching my bad carbs and losing weight I am off my Metformin for PCOS and my PCOS is officially in remission! :thumbup:I have so much more energy, I sleep through the night, I no longer have back and knee pain... I started out in a size 18W pants and I just got into a size 10P! I went from a 3X top down to Large. I am seeing changes in my body daily and it is wonderful!

Do you have to take your clothes off at the first surgical consult?
Jodi_620 replied to JayinMA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to get completely naked but not for an exam. I had a full body scan. They left me in the room alone I took off all my clothes and jewelry then I pushed a button to let the nurse know I was ready, I stepped into the booth and closed the curtain then she came in the room to perform the scan. -

Jodi_620 replied to kh1967's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hear ya...it was hell for me and I don't have any kids, LOL. Just take it one day at a time and a few weeks from now this will all be a distant memory and you will be enjoying a new and wonderful life! -
What is wrong with me????
Jodi_620 replied to kh1967's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A.) This is definitely a common worry. I read and read of all the success stories on this and other sites and I STILL kept thinking that it wouldn't work for me and that I would end up wasting a lot of money and being ashamed for failing. B.) Ther is no reason why you shouldn't find restriction. Just be patient because it may take a few fills AND you might find restriction, lose weight and lose it again needing another fill but you will get there. C.) Once you reach proper restriction you will not be hungry. -
Months before surgery and diet going well - should I still get lap-band?
Jodi_620 replied to kamala's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I see the same type of post here a lot. Only you can decide whether you need to go forward. I have been successful at losing weight more than once in my adult life but could never keep it off. That is why I decided to be banded. I knew from experience that I couldn't do it on my own. If you think that you can maintain the weight without the band then by all means you should not be banded...but like I said only you can decide that. -
What is wrong with me????
Jodi_620 replied to kh1967's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It probably is that it just hasn't hit you yet. It is an emotional roller coaster for most of us. From the stress of getting testing and approval to the excitement of being approved to the torture of pre-op dieting, the impatience of waiting for surgery day and the fear when the day gets close...enjoy the blah while you have it! -
banded three weeks ago
Jodi_620 replied to mwienckoski@comcast.net's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations and Welcome to the boards Michele!! -
You had a pouch as soon as you got the band. You just need the band to be tight enough for the food to stay in your pouch longer. If you are following the rules and eating solid food and not drinking with your meal, then it sounds like you still need your band to be a little tighter. I think you have some restriction just not quite enough yet. If you are eating soft slider foods then go for more solid food like meat and steamed veggies.

No, it is not just you. It was much worse right after surgery but I still have some really bad days depending on what I eat. It is actually the opposite. It is Fiber that really gives us gas (soluble fiber that is). Fats and Proteins cause very little gas. I was instructed to take fiber supplements after banding and when I used them I was doubled over with gas pains and had to quit using it. Soluble fiber is in foods like: Oat bran, Beans, peas and most fruits. These are the culprits. To avoid gas, get your fiber from insoluable froms like: green beans, leafy greens, wheat products, corn bran, seeds and nuts.

What is your understanding of how much food the pouch holds?
Jodi_620 replied to Losing_It_In_Texas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jack really nailed the answer! In general, four ounces is a good rule of thumb...Three ounces of meat is about the size of a deck of cards. Add to that an ounce of veggies and that is about right IF you are only eating food in that form but as Jack explained very well, it really depends on what you are eating. I was not told to measure my food. I was told that your stoma can hold approximately 4 ounces but that info was just to give me an starting point. The rule for me is to pay attention to my band and how I feel. When I feel satisfied stop eating. Satisfaction for me does not come in exactly the same measurement for every meal. Sometimes I am more hungry and sometimes less, some forms of food fill me up faster some less. -
Did not lose more than 32 lbs with Lap Band - Am now going to try Medi Zone
Jodi_620 replied to Sunny Skies's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with everything Plain said. You just need to get to the proper fill level and make sure you are following the band rules. I also think we all need to be very careful not to write someone off as a spammer. I've seen that accusation fly too quickly at others since I've been a member here. I honestly think that Sunny Skies came here for support not to promote Medi Zone. If you take a couple of seconds to look over her previous posts, you will see that she first brought up her slow loss issues way back in May and never mentioned Medi Zone then... -
It takes me about 20-30 minutes but I eat more than an ounce of food, more like four ounces. Although, I don't weigh or measure so I am not sure how accurate I am being. But apparently three ounces of meat is abouIt the size of a deck of cards add veggies and I would say it is like four ounces. Breakfast is 1/2 cup eggbeaters but by the time I add meat, cheese and veggies it is probably more like 3/4 to 1cup. The rule for me is 20 minutes but if I am still eating at 30 minutes then stop. It takes longer for breakfast because I am tight in the morning. I often don't finish my breakfast in 30 minutes and throw the last bit out. At lunch I am not as tight but it takes a full 20 minutes. By dinner, I have to pay attention and make sure I am eating slowly.

Miracle cure for constipation...at least for me

I have been using prunes (Sun Sweet in a can) and thought I would give apricots a try for a change. I do not reacall the name brand but they were in a yellow ziplock type container and boy did I get stuck on them! they are just too dry. I think I'll just stick with my prunes... -

I am cold too. I attribute it to having less "insulation" to keep me warm.
