June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
Ready610 replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was eating eight, tracking food and staying within my docs calorie guidelines. I was struggling to exercise due to bad knees and a bad hip. And, after a quick loss of 35 pounds in two months — down 50 including pre-surgery weight loss— then, Nothing. It was almost 5 weeks with no loss. I was a bit discouraged. Two weeks ago — out of no where—I started to lose weight again. Now, I’m down a total of 64 pounds. I still have a long way to go. I am hoping to lose 150 over all. I’m grateful to God for what’s happened so far. I feel so much better. My knees and hip still hurt — weight loss doesn’t fix severe arthritis. But, I’m within 15 pounds of the weight I need to have hip/knee replacement surgery. So, I’m really excited about that. Many of my clothes don’t fit, which is exciting. I haven’t been this weight in 20 years😁 -

Glad to hear this, too! I’m five weeks out and still quite tired most days. I’m doing water aerobics twice weekly and have zero energy when I’m done. Some days I sleep a solid 8-9 hours and take a 1.5 nap and still fall fast asleep at night. So, happy to know it does end. I even checked in with my doc, who said it was normal. I’m ready for my 6 week check up, just so I can ask all my questions. Anyway. Continued success to you and everyone else❤️ -

When can I eat popcorn? 😂 My first and only craving, since my 6/10 surgery. -

Sadly, I ate dinner too quickly yesterday. Was told by doc I could eat salmon and broccoli as part of my purées diet, just chew well. I had 2 oz. salmon and 4 small broccoli crowns. I chewed really well (30-40 times per bite). But, I must have gone too quickly or maybe that was too much food. It was awful, painful and I nearly vomited. Lesson learned. 😩🥴🤢 -

It took until day two for me to pass gas. It took a week for a bowel movement. I had to take laxatives daily and ended up using a suppository. I had a lot of hip pain due to arthritis and was taking oxcy for pain. They think that’s what slowed my bowel movements. Since then, I’ve been taking Colace daily, as recommended by my doctor for at least another week — to make sure everything is “flowing” okay. -

Had my one week post surgery follow up yesterday! 16 pounds down since 6/6🎉. Doc was pleased with my progress on fluids and protein. So, I’m moving on to the purées diet. So, excited to eat real food. I never knew scrambled eggs and mashed bananas could be so good 😂😂😂 -

Agreed, I could definitely stand to move past the liquids. 🤪 That said, I am sure I’ll make it a few more days. I get to start soft/puréed food on Monday. 🤪 -
June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

I’m home from the hospital. Got home yesterday evening after a two night stay. My recovery is going well. My tummy is sore, but that is to be expected. No gas pain. No nausea or trouble keeping any of the protein shakes down. I am keeping up well on my fluid intake. And, I’m keeping up with the schedule of meds. The one freak that happened is that I pulled muscle in my back trying to turn over on my side in the hospital bed. So, I left with awful lower left back pain. I’m resting all day today in the hope that the back pain will subside and I’ll be able to move about more tomorrow. How long before any of you started to feel kind of normal again? -

Good evening, June Siblings! I am finally coherent enough to post. I had my surgery at 12:30 pm today. Praise God, I’m feeling pretty good. Ice chips and water have been going down well. Pain is being managed well. Moved from bed to chair. Waiting on a protein shake to arrive. Went the the restroom with no issues. The only weird thing is that my lip is swollen. I seem to have a had an allergic reaction to something. No one is sure what, but they think it may be from the tube in my mouth during surgery. There were no complications. Although the doc found a hernia, which he took care of, as he thought it might contribute to reflux. Glad he did that. Anyway—just wanted update you all. I’ve appreciated reading all of your experiences and learned from everyone of you. I’m expected to be here for two days due to my hip and knee issues. I’ll post agin after the pain meds wear off😉 thanks for sending good thought and prayers my way! -
@Palombella - me too.

I have hip and knee arthritis and 6 more days until my surgery. I’m in excruciating pain because I can’t take any NSAIDS. Anyone have any suggestions on how to endure the pain for the next few days. I can barely walk to the restroom or get in and out of bed. Any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated.

Pre-Op RNY - No NSAIDS for one week
Ready610 replied to Ready610's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
@FunkyMunkeyBrat, yes we discussed which procedure to do at length because of my arthritis issues. My doctor strongly recommends I stop Naproxen. He said I could try Celebrex, as it is not as harsh on the stomach as naproxen. If that doesn’t work, there are very few other options for me. I know I’ll be getting cortisone shots as soon as possible after surgery. And, I know that a hip replacement and double knee replacement are in my future. That’s part of my motivation for losing the weight. I need to lose at least 80 pounds in order to have the replacement procedures. -

I got the call this afternoon. I check into the hospital at 10:30 am on Monday, 6/10. Surgery is scheduled for 12:30 pm. I’ll update you all when I am coherent! Pray for me and send good thoughts for a great surgical team, smooth surgery, no nausea and vomiting, no problems with gas, ability to walk and relieve gas, minimal pain from surgery and relief from arthritis with new meds post surgery, and smooth sailing with the post op diet. Excited and nervous and ready!✝️🙏🏾😳😁 -

Pre-Op RNY - No NSAIDS for one week

Thanks, everyone! My PCP gave me Voltaran topical cream, which is helping my knees. She also prescribed oxcycodone and later increased the dosage to help with the hip pain. I’m also taking Tylenol extra strength, applying ice and heat. I’m still in a great deal of pain, but I will make it through the weekend to surgery on Monday. -

It’s exciting to hear about all of you with upcoming surgeries. I’m glad mine is happening soon. I had a meltdown last night because I was in so much pain from my hip. Somedays, every step is excruciating. I have to lose 80 pounds before I can get hip replacement. I am so ready to get going with my post surgery self. I started my pre-op diet today-no carbs, no sweets, no fruit for 13 more days. I’ll be praying for all of you June surgery folks. Please do the same for me. I know this will be tough, but I am ready. -

@Frustr8, Thanks for the encouragement. Somewhere in my mind, I’m also concerned that it won’t work. I really want to lose 150 to 200 pounds. So, it is helpful to know you’ve lost 100 since your surgery date. I’m sure you’ll make your goal! Keep up the great work! -

On 5/27, I start two weeks of protein and veggies only until my surgery on June 10. I’ve got protein shakes for after surgery and broth. I’m like others have said ... excited and nervous a bit more as the draws near. -

I am scheduled for RNY on June 10th. My arthritic knees and hip are too painful. I can barely walk. I’m hoping and praying this helps and I can lose enough weight for knee and hip replacement surgeries. I’m a little anxious, but very much looking forward to getting my procedure. I’ve research med it twice previously and backed out over ten years ago. This time I’m really ready.
