Yes, I gain and lose sporadically with a general downward trend. So for example, I was 242.6 a few days ago, the next day 243, then 242.8, this morning I am down to 241.2. This is a typical pattern for me.

I think you should speak to your doctor and your psychiatrist. Your psychiatrist is a medial and mental health professional. You should be able to speak with her.

How long until you felt “normal”
delfie replied to shellyk018's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Almost 6 weeks out and I feel pretty normal. Eating is obviously very different, in terms of what and how much I eat, but then, that's the whole point! I am so happy that I had the surgery. -
I was hungry for the first week after surgery, until I could start pureed foods. The liquids were not filling me up. I am never hungry now, since I have started solid foods. I only eat because I know I must or I feel my blood sugar is low, but it is never because I feel hungry.

Eyes on the prize. You can do it.

Yes, major surgery coupled with a drastic reduction in caloric consumption will do that. The caloric deficit made me feel weak and light-headed a lot, until just recently.

Agree with others, I don't really see the point. If I can achieve health and weight loss without resorting to this extreme way of eating (it seems extreme to me anyway), then why would I subject myself to that? I am close to a month and a half out and very happy with my results so far. I have a hard enough time getting in my protein and fiber as prescribed by my surgical team, I can't imagine trying to increase my fat intake to the level of ketosis, not to mention I would not be complying with the diet I have been told to follow to be successful. That is just my personal opinion, I think people should do what works best for them, and probably in consultation with their doctor/surgeon.

Amazing updates. Congratulations on all of these successes!

I have only shared with a select few. It's not out of shame or fear, it's because it's private and frankly, no one's business. I think it was Brenee Brown who said, share with those who have earned the right to hear your story. And that always really struck me as fundamentally correct.

Good topic. I think as others have said there are two sides to this. One is that discrimination about weight is real. And the second is that losing weight can affect the way in which we interact with people and the attitude we present with. I see both sides as having an impact. But I can see how frustrating it is, getting support when it's no longer as needed, versus not getting support when it was. It's like finally getting an umbrella when it's no longer raining. Welp, thanks anyway, I guess.

I have no idea what is normal or not, but I have been able to tolerate lettuce and raw veggies already, only 5 weeks out. But then, I think *this* is not the norm.

I have purchased several "snacky" high-protein foods, like protein puffs and chips, in single size portions. That said, I almost never eat them and still treat those like a treat (i.e. going to a movie). I find that mostly I eat basic protein-rich meals, veggie omelet, yogurt and berries, peanut butter and thin, whole-grain toast or apple slices. And because I can eat so little, I find I almost never have room or desire left for snacks anyway. My program encourages whole foods, with a focus on protein and fibre, and pretty much no snacking unless it is more than 4 hours between meals. I love the simplicity of the program that my surgical team promotes.

Weight Loss Disappointment
delfie replied to Jerseygal247's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've only lost just under 15 pounds in the 5 weeks since my surgery and I am thrilled! You are losing between 2 and 3 pounds per week, I don't think that qualifies as slow or that something is wrong. Everyone is different and rate of weight loss depends on many different things. Just keep doing what you are supposed to be doing and you will continue to lose. -
I didn't have a last supper, I had too many last suppers everytime I promised I would start eating right "tomorrow". I did eat pretty crappy the few days before I started the pre-op 2 week liquid diet though - that spicy chicken sandwich from Wendy's is my vice!

Congratulations on a fantastic accomplishment!

Post-Op Food Consumption/'Stuck' feeling
delfie replied to Lost&Found's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I get this also and I realize I have been eating too fast my entire life. It takes real concentration and effort to slow down for me. -
I had a patch they put behind my ear, not sure if it's the same one you mentioned. I also had no nausea.

My day went so smoothly. Scheduled for surgery at 7:30 am, and got into surgery right as scheduled. I wasn't all that nervous, I was mostly excited. And when they got me into the operating room, everything happened so quickly, I barely had time to register fear or nerves. I woke up and they told me everything went really well, it felt like I had been asleep for two minutes. I had some back pain, and then some internal pain from where my stomach was removed, but a heating pad and pain meds took care of that. I was actually feeling pretty good, aside from feeling hungry from only having water. The next day, I got to go home. I only recall a day or two of discomfort and pain, things healed pretty quickly. My biggest issue is (still) feeling lightheaded or easily fatigued from how few calories I consume in a day. I am very happy I had this done. Good luck to you!

3 Weeks and I don't get full that fast
delfie replied to madssmadss's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I think the most helpful thing my surgical team told me is that the idea is not to see how much you can eat until you feel full, the idea is to eat until you feel the absence of hunger. -
Not feeling understood by partner

Congratulations on your loss. And what GradyCat said. -
I have 5. And they are barely visible. I was shocked when at how small the incisions were.
-
Thanks for that, GradyCat, good reference for the future.

I must have an iron sleeve because I have already had salad and had no issues. I was able to start "normal" foods last week already, per my surgeon's program.

Questions about stalls! New here!
delfie replied to ADerryberry's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes I am almost 4 weeks post op. Last week and this week I was even up half a pound, and then again today, but then it seems to drop again the over next few days. My dr did say to stay off the scale daily (not that I listened). From everything I've read, it is all to be expected and so I am not worrying about it, just staying the course and following the plan. The weight will come off. -

I think this is a good motto for life in general!
