    June 2020 surgeries

    Hey all! I had sleeve surgery on 6/25, tomorrow I see my surgeon for my 1 week post op and I’m containing the urge to weigh myself until then. 

I spent 1 night in the hospital, was able to get in enough fluids and was discharged the next afternoon. I live about an hour away from the hospital where I had surgery and summer traffic in the area doubled the time it took to get home. I was glad to have had a pillow in the car (after reading another person mention it to help going over road construction & such) it definitely helped with the stop and go traffic car jerking my hubby fought to drive me home. 

Everyday has gotten a little better with everything from pain to sleep, I slept for 5 solid hours last night before waking up (it’s killing me to sleep on my back, I’m a side sleeper normally). 

My incisions have been the most tender things once the gas pain dispersed. Mainly my large incision and the one to the right of it. But they are healing well with no heat, inflammation or anything concerning. 

I’m not taking real walks yet but have made sure to walk around the house often (every hour or so when awake) But today felt like a giant leap in energy as I got an itch to organize and unpack some things in my kitchen and did it before getting too tired out. 

Makes sense I get worn out quick as I’m on a watered down juice diet since surgery. But after my checkup tomorrow I will start 1 week of shakes on Thursday, followed by 2 weeks of soft foods, before moving into solid foods after my 1 month check up. 

Important side notes- I had my first BM 4 days after surgery. I attribute this to adding daily liquid Probiotics to my regiment (add to my first Water in the morning) when I came home (it was cleared through my program) & it helps promote healing. After all 70% of your immune system comes from the bacteria in your gut good,bad, or ugly. 

-I also dilute concentrated Protein with some water to get some protein in even while drinking mainly juice and I think this has helped with everything from having some energy to not feeling nauseous. 

Both of the above products are non-gmo/vegan/organic/no sugars/no sugar alcohols in them. I can’t wait to see the scale at my doctors tomorrow 😍

Highs and lows for the week; High- Having more energy each day Low- Not being as ‘active’ as I want to be yet. (Listening to my body, not my head)
  3. I met with my surgeon on Friday.. I've completed all my tests and all my nutrition meetings as well as meeting the weight loss requirements for my insurance. We are officially submitting to insurance for approval and I was given a surgery date of January 16th 2020 (13 days before my birthday!) Fingers crossed all goes through ^_^:1356_pray_tone2::777_revolving_hearts::323_star2:

  4. It has been a while... I have lost 8 lbs. of the 16 required by insurance for approval, I have completed 2/6 nutrition classes, I have completed my sleep study (diagnosed with sleep apnea), my labs (only low vitamin D), today I completed my EGD.. I have a small ulcer in my esophagus right where it meets the stomach.. so Protonix script for 2 months, careful eating & back in September for another EGD to make sure it's healed before applying for approval w/insurance in October.:1356_pray_tone2: I have my Upper GI, Abdominal ultrasound & chest x-ray next week, along with my psych clearance coming up in a few weeks.. My plan is to have surgery after the holidays but around the first of the year :323_star2: Start off 2020 with a new tool to help me achieve my goals :777_revolving_hearts: This site is a wealth of knowledge that has been helpful & calming through this process. It is also the only place I am voicing it on 'Social Media' at this time. While I am not hiding it & when asked why I have all these appointments I am quick to explain, I also haven't shared it all over my personal social media because right now I am focused & don't need any well meaning distraction or not encouragement encouragement... :770_yellow_heart: Every day is a new day to make the best version of me ^_^

  5. Went to my first of 6 nutrition classes last night.^_^ Setting up all appointments for necessary pre-op testing. Getting back into the routine of working out after being sick for a little over a week, kicked my own butt with some Tabatha tonight:99_muscle::350_sweat_drops::337_fire:. I have 5 months & 20 lbs. to lose for insurance requirements in order to get approval for surgery (on top of all the other things this process entails) :770_yellow_heart: I know I can do it. Heck currently stressed & unemployed it gives me some positive things to focus on while I try to hold everything together:777_revolving_hearts: I know this journey will be difficult, but I also recognize how worth it it is & I am :298_cherry_blossom:

  6. Went to my initial consult with the Bariatric surgeon/ program I chose. Came home with a folder full of information & helpful organization of all the testing that needs to be completed while I complete the required nutritional counseling. She also let me know my insurance typically takes 6 weeks to reply with authorization when submitted, so that puts my potential surgery date near the new year if all stays on track :770_yellow_heart: I felt comfortable with her, in our discussions she agrees that I am a good candidate for the Gastric Bypass. I appreciated the 'introduction' class that was given after the consult with the surgeon where I was given this binder of every referral (from her, not my pcp referrals), & contact information for all the testing needed to make my contacts/calls tomorrow morning even easier:1356_pray_tone2: I start my nutrition classes on June 5th, so that's when the clock will start toward insurance approval & getting the tool to help me reach my goals:323_star2:

  7. Had my first PCP visit in over a decade today, & I'm currently fasting to complete blood work tomorrow. She's agreed to write the referral to the WLS center that I chose & I have my initial consultation with the surgeon set up for May 22nd. I know these are just the first steps to getting the checklist for insurance approval (7 mos. nutritional counseling) but each step makes me feel more solid in my decision & excited for my future :770_yellow_heart:

     

    :323_star2:PS~Extra win, when they weighed me I was down 10 lbs from when I weighed myself a month ago(I've been tracking calories/macros & working hard on portion control) :323_star2:

    I read one of your comments to another user and happened to notice your surgery date was 2 days ago! Just wanted to stop by and say congratulations on your new tool, rest up & heal well!! :777_revolving_hearts: I look forward to my surgery (hopefully in about 7 mos., I'm at the beginning of my process). You inspire me & I look forward to hearing more about your journey & successes ^_^

  9. I have my initial surgical consultation set for 5/22 and I hope to have my PCP visit before then to get my letter of necessity. I feel an ancy excitement at starting this process & look forward to the positivity to come!:298_cherry_blossom:

The seminar just made me more sure that this is the path I am meant to take & I think I've found my surgeon/medical group. I know my insurance requirements & I'm setting up my pcp visit to discuss referral/letter of necessity so I can start the 7 month nutritional classes and testing required. :1356_pray_tone2: ^_^ I know this is a journey and I am looking forward to learning & growing within this community :777_revolving_hearts: In the future I plan to share my story for therapy just as much as in the hopes to connect and inspire others the way I continue to be inspired. :298_cherry_blossom:

  12. I have decided to pursue WLS & I am currently researching, gaining all the information I can. I am attending a WLS seminar through one of the local medical groups this evening and hope it to be the first step in the process. ☘️
