How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills
Paulax replied to Wendell Edwards's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Then I will continue to quote you my dear Wendell Edwards.:clap2: -
It's great you are able to post about it. As Dr Phil says, 'You can't change what you don't acknowledge.' I think many of us are like this, I am. Sometimes it is our way of reacting to stress, habit, a search for that seratonin rush, or whatever pleasurable centers it triggers in the brain. Ways to combat it? We've heard them all before, but the best is.... Keep house clean of 'binge' foods. Be kind to yourself. Hugs

Well, having a few surgeries myself, I can understand your point. I am on your side on this one. I hope you win.... Hugs, can't be easy that your surgeon is also your dad. -
What is your current fill in your 4cc band?
Paulax replied to Paulax's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Boy, not only is every person different with their fills, each FILL is different. Fill before last, 3.0, felt LOOSER the week I got it. I paniced and thought my dear doctor must have missed his mark. Then it tightened up 2 weeks later. That fill was good for 25 pounds. This particular fill, 3.2, tightened up right away and now a week out, it's loosening up. I just want to be witness to the fact that this is an unpredictable fill cycle. But I am not complaining. This band has brought me within 13 pounds of goal. I feel as though I will easily attain this goal in the next few months. Then I will be trying to find just the right fill to maintain this amazing loss. How is everyone else doing? -

I'd like this to be a sticky. I refer to this post often Wendell. Can you tell me the source. I have tried to find it but can't. Thanks in advance. Paula -
What is your current fill in your 4cc band?

............and BTW, congratulate me, I broke into the 80's over the weekend, still there as of this morning, so I am calling it. I haven't been in the 80, SINCE the 80s. So I know you all will be happy for me. :bounce: 13

EXACTLY, it is starting to make me mad, but as Eddie said, WE will get the last laugh. I despise lying, but the next time someone says, you aren't going to lose any more are you? I am going to say, "I am pretty much done." Change subjects. But you know my MIL is the only one really bothering me at the moment. I purposefully do not make many mommy friends at the school where my 3 kids go. My real friends are behind me 100%. A sign of a true friend. I guess when you/we are the 'fat girl'. It becomes uncomfortable for some when we lose and get near our healthy BMI. It is a really interesting phenomenon isn't it? No one would want us to ALMOST quit smoking, or ALMOST kick a drug habit, or ALMOST get cured from cancer just so THEY can continue to feel superior. Interesting, verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry interesting.

Wow Kim, I didn't know your stats before, you deserve a great big hug. What an inspiration you are! It just amazes me that I am only 13 pounds overweight. Even when part of me doesn't believe I will ever make goal, somewhere in the back of my brain, I know it will happen, if I make it. Cheers to all of us. My last fill really helped things move along. I think this will be it for me.

I think I will need a tummy tuck. I have keloids. My lapband scars are still raised and red and itchy. I am 14 months out. I am afraid of a TT scar, being visible under a bathingsuit and basically ugly. I am confident it wouldn't be as ugly as my hanging, post losing almost 100 pounds and 3 pregnancies, but still. I am worried that the scar will be ugly, raised and itchy. Is there anyone else with information for me on keloid skin? Can these scars be bleached, prevented, injected with something to prevent such scaring. I have not seen a plastic surgeon, but will in the next year or so. Just curious to know. Thanks in advance.

Well, I have cleaned out my closet several times, but funny, now that I am within 15 pounds of my goal, it seems to be filling up again. :nervous

Why I just ordered a new Spider ski suit in size 12!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That thrills me to no end. The pants fit, I can bend over, I can fall, but they fit snug. So in 10 pounds, they will be perfect. YAHOOO, see you on the slopes.

TheGh0st's Extended Tummy Tuck w/Lipo
Paulax replied to TheGh0st's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Hope you are regaining your energy, how are you feeling today? How many days has it been since surgery? How does the incision look? hugs -
RIGHT ON JAZLADY! Feels good doesn't it? I have been to goal before, but only for about 5 minutes and when I was bulemic in my late teens/ early 20s. One of my friends commented on how happy I am and I said, that a WEIGHT has been lifted from me, from both my body and my soul. The MOST amazing thing to me is that with proper adjustments, I will NEVER gain this weight back, as I have countless times before. This thrills me to no end. Countdown today! 15 When I lose on more pound, I will be in the 80s, I haven't been in the 80s SINCE the 80s......:whoo:

I guess it doesn't explain why we are all different, but I imagine that our innards are as different from each other as our outards. lol! -
What is your current fill in your 4cc band?
Paulax replied to Paulax's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Here it is, Originally posted by Wendell Edwards. [quote Wendell Edwards} This may help you in understanding the restrictive mechanism of a Lap-Band. The INAMED protocol for Lap-Band fills calls for a six-week delay after surgery, prior to any fills. The purpose for the six-week delay is for the patient’s stomach to heal from the surgery, as well as allowing time for the Lap-Band to “Seat” or “Nestle” into the fat pad between the stomach wall and the interior wall of the Lap-Band. Prior to receiving an EFFECTIVE fill, it is VERY uncommon to have any restriction from a Lap-Band. Some patients will NOT lose weight, or may even GAIN weight until they have received an effective fill in their Lap-Band. Normal weight loss with a properly restricted Lap-Band is between 1 and 2 pounds per week. The normal cycle of fills, restriction and weight loss is as follows: 1. The patient's Lap-Band constricts when the patient receives a fill. Swelling for a few days after receiving a fill is very common. Many doctors require a patient to go on a liquid diet for a day or two after receiving a fill. A fill may have a “Delayed Action” of up to two weeks. A “Delayed-Action” means that the fill may not become effective for up to two weeks after the fill. That is why the INAMED protocol states that fills should not be performed on patients who will not have access to medical care for at least two weeks after a fill. 2. The patient's stomach capacity is lessened as a result of the restriction caused by the Lap-Band. 3. The patient loses weight because they cannot eat as much food. 4. The residual fat-pad between the inside of the Lap-Band and the outside of the patient's stomach reduces in size because of the overall weight loss in the patient. 5. The reduction of the residual fat-pad causes the Lap-Band to become loose again. 6. At that point, the patient needs another fill, because the Lap-Band is loose, and the patient has a loss of restriction, which allows the patient to eat larger amounts of food. 7. The patient receives another fill and the process starts all over again. Most Lap-Band patients receive several fills to adjust the Lap-Band as their weight loss progresses, and there is less and less residual fat-pad between the inside of the Lap-Band and the exterior of the stomach wall. Once a patient has lost all of their residual fat-pad, fills become less common. As the Lap-Band patient progresses in their weight loss, the effect of very tiny fills (Less than .2ccs) becomes greater and greater. It is not uncommon for a late-stage Lap-Band patient to experience a significant difference in restriction with as little as .05cc of fill. __________________ See my before & after photographs Starting weight was 570 pounds Banded 09/13/2004 by Dr. Neal, in Shelton, WA "Why are you letting a number on a scale determine your level of happiness, and would it MATTER what the number on the scale said if you were at your perfect goal SIZE?" -
What is your current fill in your 4cc band?
Paulax replied to Paulax's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Very good question, especially since in this thread, we all have the same size band. But I imangine that all our stomaches are shaped differently to begin with, with differing amounts of fat in between the band and the stomach wall. So as we lose weight, that fat patch between the band and the stomach lining thins, thus the need for more fill. But I know what you mean, everybody reacts to different fill levels differently. Some can never go over 3.0cc, some go over and even over 4.0 in our band. Whatever our fill level, success to us all. Wendell Edwards had a good post somewhere, I will see if I can link it here. -
18 and I don't care if it IS water............

YESSSSSSSSSSS, I haven't lost any weight since June, but every time I see her, she says, 'Have you lost MORE weight!' I keep saying UH NOO, in fact I am not losing at all and haven't since JUNE..... What I really want to do is lift my shirt and show her my omentum...hahahahahaha. That is the stomach fat if you don't watch Oprah. Skinny, I am not there yet Chickie, I look FORWARD to someone calling me skinny. ha, but I can understand your frustration. It is like no one really wanted you to succeed in the first place. And in your case, from what I have read and seen in your pictures, you have MORE than succeeded my dear, you are a poster child of how the lap band can change someone's life. You are one of my heros my dear young Chickie. With my MIL, I am sure she is genuinely concerned, but it just comes out wrong. I know she wants me to be healthy for her 3 beautiful grandchildren, my beautiful children. But if I look at her pictures from 1955, SHE BE SKINNY......I think to someone who has lived through the depression, some weight on someone = healthy. So hopefully, she will let up when she sees that this weight isn't coming back and I am more healthy and more active than ever. And if she doesn't, I guess I will have to quack and let it roll off my back like Water off a duck. I AM after all a mature woman..... of 44 years........
