    hiccups?

I get them too and quite often. It's annoying and embarassing. I'm a consultant for payroll and accounting software and I'm either in training with professionals or in meetings with management. People are all looking to me for advice or solutions and I'm up there "hi-cup'ing"... it's not pretty at all. Also, mine happen even when not eating so I know it's not just eating too fast. I've tried holding my breath - kinda works. But drinking doesn't - it ususally hurts.... Anyone else have tips... I've browsed the other hiccup threads and there's really not a lot of tips for people.

    Why not CHEAT??!!?

My doctor said "churning cannot tear your stitches".... the stomach churns even on liquids and that was a myth. He did say that moving to solids too soon could cause you to throw up (he doesn't use the term PB - I've only heard it here) and that violent action of the stomach muscles could tear the stitches. He said each person is different (helloooo - we all know this) and that some people can move to solids earlier. I was allowed solids three days post op. I never got sick or had any vomiting until this last fill. I think that some of you all are "Band Nazi's" and are so full of your own opinions that if people don't do it your way then they are wrong. That attitude is shallow and unattractive. Some people and some doctors do things different and each of us can report our own experiences, our own opinions and maybe even tell someone what our doctor said but we are not here to judge a fellow bandster. The best advice we can give is call your doctor tell him you're starving and can you move to the next level of food.... that's what I did and I also asked here... but I followed what my doctor said.

    Yet ANOTHER surgery!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Long post)

Robyn, I guess I'm still confussed on the knick thing. Are we all at risk for the same type of knick? I don't think I've every been informed of ricks like that from the fill needle? Also, I didn't think you should sue your doctor but I though he could make it "easier" for you on the cost of the surgery that wasn't your fault either. I just paid for my surgery on self-pay but then my insurance also paid so I'm getting a refund. The insurance only paid $800 for surgery that it cost reguarly people 17,000. If an insurance company and negotiate discounts that deep surely you doctor can negotiate less then $13,000 for an expense you didn't elect.
  4. I know a lot of people have problems with certain foods either a) they make you hurt really bad or sick or PB (example Bread, eggs, etc) :bananadoggywow: they slip though the band and you over eat them so you have to "Forbid" them. My discussion point here is what are you doing about these foods? What will you do in the future? I'm asking out of curiousity because my mom makes homemade Easter Bread only once a year and it's sooooo special to the family. It's a recipe and technique that has been passed down from Portgual. It's been a tradition for my entire life and way before for the family. I just love it and only wanted one piece... I threw it up. I feel so bad because my mom's being a bit 'sad' that no one is eating the bread and she should quit making it. I don't want her to quit making it and hope I can eat it next year. Maybe just a little. Do you all have any "favorite" things you hope to be able to eat again?
  5. Well I'm still too tight (but am getting some solids down) but the hot tea isn't working for me on bread... it works for a few other things though. The band is fickle since there are things I ate yesterday that I can't get down today and vice versa.

    Yet ANOTHER surgery!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Long post)

**Edited because I read though the post better and realize my question was already answered in the first post** How come the doctor didn't cover the $13,000 cost for the accidental knicking issue? I would think that they would cover when they make mistakes since it's cheaper then a lawsuit. I feel so bad for you that is just awful what has happened so far and can't beleive the money you've spend. I've also spent 17,000 on the surgery and think I'd just die if I had that much more additional out of pocket. That's unreal. I've got a tight fill and know "kinda" what that acid is like at night but not to the extend you've experienced it. I just pray for you to get better.
  7. This was exactly what I went though... I was so sick and tried of my friends, family and co-workers giving me diet advice prior to the band. I just felt they didn't understand how hard I had tried in the past and I had "given" up. Now i've already caught myself telling my husband "I don't see how you can eat that much food - yuck"... I'm going to try really hard not to say that anymore but it's hard because you really are just amazed they can eat so much and it seems so gross now. I keep repeating.. I have a tool they don't have.

    feeling discouraged

It's hard to be patient and wait for a fill and the bad news is maybe that won't give you any restriction. My doctor said it would take 2 - 3 fills before you hit your sweet spot. With that said I wasn't at all pleased about spending all that money and having to wait so long before I started losing. I lost nothing on pre-op and only a few pounds between surgery and my first fill. It's just part of it... as ugly as it is. I'm finally restricted (maybe too much) and finally seeing a decent loss in the last week. I guess all that suffering was worth it since I'm sure it's going to work now. All I can really say is I empathize with you.
  9. I'm so sorry to hear about your mom, you'll be in my thoughts. On your question about the surgery I would say now is a better time then later. Your mom's health issues really made it harder to fight the infection and you have the opportunity to stop those health problems now before many of them start.

    Accident - now what?

That sounds like a bad day. I hope everything works out for you and they rule it the other drivers fault. That's crummy when you don't know how it's going to turn out. I wish you the best of luck! Keep your chin up. PS. I had a wreck once where I was stopped and a person two behind plowed into me causing a 5 car pile up. I was so scared it was going to be my fault since anytime you hit someone in the backend - I thought was my fault. But it turned out good and the person causing the accident was actually at fault.
  12. Actually I was kidding when I said the "Good Drugs" but I used to say to my friends when I went out all the time that I wish I could invent a pill that got me the "right" amount tipsy and no hang over or upset stomach. And that I could take another pill to make the tipsy go away so I could drive home. Too Bad! I like just slightly tipsy not drunk but it's a fine line. When I used to go out a lot my tummy hurt from a lot of drinks. I think that someone mentioned above the Ceasar and that sounds good, I like spicy and might try that.

    Do Not Feed The TROLLS

Great Idea. I always forget about that option because I worry that I'll miss something... actually anything a real troll would say wouldn't even be interesting. I guess I would worry that I was ignoring a memeber that was just having a bad day. As I learn people here I guess I won't mix up people as much.

Have any of you tried Propel with Calcium? I like it... it helps me with two of my points I get my Water in since it's a low calorie water beverage and it has calcium in it. I'm still trying to figure out how much and actually I'm still taking my calcum chew but this helps since I don't drink much milk. Oh yeah the calories are only 20 per bottle.

Need Advise - I'm a bit too tight

I have been leaning toward junk. Yesterday I had a small frosty from Wendys and a pudding too. I haven't really been tempted with that stuff since banding. I am going to wait until tomorrow and call him again. That would be two more days from the inital call. Thanks everyone for the advice.
  18. I've seen several threads that deal with this topic but I'm having a hard time finding the answers though the search so forgive me if this is duplicated. I have several questions that I need some advice on... Some background... Banded 2/8/06 - 1.7ccfill in 4cc band on 3/21 and 2.7cc on 4/18. I was comfortable and eating well but still a bit hungry between meals with the 1.7 but now I feel "Uck" My questions... I want to give the fill time to settle in or whatever happens - how much time do you all suggest waiting before an unfill. I can keep Protein drinks down and most Soups but that's about all. It's been a week tomorrow. My doctor only does fills/unfills on Tuesdays (tomorrow) and I'm going to be out of town the next two Tuesday so if I don't do it tomorrow I'll have to wait. Waiting isn't all that bad since I can keep Protein Drinks and Soup down so I don't guess I'll starve. (not likely anyhow) I'll be at a seminar the next two weeks but think I can manage some mushies or protein drinks but worry about the formal dinner nights. I'm hoping soup will always be an option. I really hate to get an unfill since I'm finally losing. I know that you really have to hit your sweet spot before you start losing and to be comfortable with eating solids but "like it or not", I think it's depressing to spend so much money and work so hard and not lose "something". It's been 13 weeks since pre-op diet and I've lost 16 pounds which is good but about 7 of them was in this last week. Any help you all can give me will be greatly appreciated. I'm just torn mainly on going tomorrow and getting an unfill or waiting for about three more weeks.

    Do Not Feed The TROLLS

Good Info... Have we had trolls here before? I used to moderate at another message board and we always had trolls. It was nasty and I first we didn't understand to ignore them and that made it worse.

  21. That's a tough one... have you tried any good drugs that are calorie free to subsitute? Just teasin... I like sweet drinks that have a lot of calories so I don't go out so much since it's hard to say no.. diet coke and wiskey isn't too bad but I think it's nasty.

Need Advise - I'm a bit too tight

The seminar is only 2.5 hours away so I guess I'll just drive home if I have a lot of probelms. Tonight I tried a few bites of chicken with a bunch of bbq sauce. (to keep it not so dry and slippy) and I stopped after just a few bites (like three teaspoons) and it's staying down. I also used the hold your breath trick I saw on another thread and think it worked. I'm really praying next week goes ok but if it doesn't I force my way into my doctor toward the end of the week. I'm thinking that I'm still swollen from the PB's and hope that I can maybe reduce it by taking it really easy for a few days.
  23. Thank you so much for the tip... i was just wondering if there was any good tricks like that since i'm having that golf ball every meal right now. I'm so thankful for a tip like this.

    Question about pee color (sorry)

Opera had a doctor "forgot his name" but he authored the book called "You - the owners manual" and he advociated the "poop" float... the sinking kind is bad but the floating kind is good. He also brought on the show real live (I mean dead) intenstines and showed healthy vs unhealthy... wow that was gross but interesting. Made me want to get my Fiber in for life.

Need Advise - I'm a bit too tight

Just an update... I called the doctor and spoke with the nurse who "relayed" my message to the doctor. I got a call back on my voice mail that said for me to try and wait it out. I am driving to my seminar so lucky the flight issue won't be too bad. I also have one other good thing. I have two different seminars to go to the one next week is only Tuesday and Wednesday so I could call the doctor and try to force my way in Thursday. I know that's not his normal fill day but I also know he's in the office that day and occassionaly sees patients. The next week will be hell if i'm still too tight, since the seminar is all week and many meals together with people. Thank you all for the advice I do appreciate it. I think you all are so wonderful and really appreciate the group here.
