I steadily gained weight following graduation from high school. I was no longer involved in sports, worked and could buy my own food. Growing up we rarely ate at home, mostly processed foods and fast food. Needless to say I didn't have great habits going into adulthood. I met my husband at 18 and we moved in together shortly after. We ate what we could afford, so not the best choices. I have poor coping skills and used food mostly when I was stressed or emotional. I slowly gained until I weighed 240 in 2011 or so, I was 24. I also gained while attending nursing school, I maintained a full time job so convenience foods were the heart of my diet. I managed to lose around 20 pounds in 2012, then lost my mother in March of that same year so dieting and exercise no longer mattered. Then the following year in 2013 I lost my oldest brother to suicide, I was 285 by 2014. Diet after diet but nothing stuck and I fell into a deep depression that year. I've had depression since I was 13 but this was the worst episode. I followed the keto diet starting around June of 2018 and did manage to lose 20 pounds. I kept that off until I began seeing the surgeon in November of 2018 and was sleeved 2/25/19. I haven't regretted this decision ever and am learning new ways of coping with my emotions.
