We should grab a coffee...and compare notes! Did you have Dr Richardson for surgery? Have you got far to travel to the appt? I m based in Cheltenham so its only about 1hr 30mins for me.. Why NOT To Go With "Why Go Abroad/The Hospital Group!!My personal Experiences....

I went with WGA had Mr rchardson the same as georgina.. had my surgery 2 weeks ago today.... 12th July. I cant fault the service.... The nurses in hospital were fantastic, discharged early in the morning @ 6.30am but to be honest i'd rather be at home in my own bed! The nurse called me after a week as I was tiod she would... that was perfect timing as I had a number of questions by then. Now this morning a letter has arried with an appointment with a Dr Chaudry at Spire Hospital in Little Aston, Sutton Coldfield for thurs 31st july. Bit short notice but that means I get my xray only 2.5 weeks after surgery! I'm hoping I can have a little fill too so guna ring them monday.... I am glad it is sooner rather than later as I just wanna get this weight off asap! Does anyone know who Dr Chaudry is?? Do you think they will let me have a small fill? I hope so as my weight appears to have stopped dropping now. I lost 12lb of my 13 in the first week. -
those silly stocking they sent home...
Me1e replied to just1more's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wore the compression socks and then had the massaging cuffs on over the socks while in the hospital (about 24 hours). The surgeon said to wear the socks also once I got home for 10 days. I got blood thinner (heparin) while in the hospital. They didn’t send me home with any. Aparently you are still open to high risk of bllo clots for 10days after surgery hence the stockings.... They are a nightmare but could save your life......... -
Hi all I am 1 week post op & just have a couple of questions for the experienced bandsters out there! 1) When you go out for meals how do youcope with not eating & drinking at the same time... I like to have a glass of wine or 2 with my meal on special occassions.... (its ok at home but when out i imagine awkward). I know we dont do it to be fuller for longer but if we did would it be a problem on the odd occassion? 2) Will i ever be able to have a good drinking session with my girlie friends again?? Like a good few glasses of wine.. again i'm talking rarely but is it possible? 3) how soon after surgery did you dink alcohol? thankx

QUOTE: "Hahaha!! Isn´t it such a great feeling and this is only the begining. The real weight loss starts after our firsts fills. Keep it up!!" Mrs JJ - tell me more.. did the weight start to drop off quicker again after you have a fill??? If so I cant wait for my first one! It'll be a while though cuz I'm only a week post op!! lol  -
Mine we're glued but had dressings put over them... I only removed the dressings yesterday.. day 6 post op....... i felt lke mine were coming open but thankfully couldnt see it! I think the glue is stronger than you think & the incisions are healing from the inside out so are probably further advanced in the healing process than you think. You should be fine if you are careful... just dont over stretch or do anything strenuous.

How long was your liquid phase post op?
Me1e replied to MarylandMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is 2 weeks liquid, then 2 weeks mushy, then solids! Only one more week of liquids to go for me! -
That is helpful - thanks.. I notice you had surgery only 3 days before me but you have lost 23lbs! I have lost 11 lbs since last saturday.......... What are you managing to eat.. i'm thinking maybe I m not eating enough cuz I am hardly eating at all & have no appetite... does the 23lbs include pre-op diet..?

Cottage pie, cauliflower cheese (low fat version), Cod in parsley sauce, mashed potato, poached salmon, blended casserole, mushy peas, ready brek, omlette, poached eggs, lean minced meat in tomato sauce, pureed vegetables with meals, stewed fruit with low fat custard, angel delight... These are just a few suggestions mentioned in my post surgery booklet for mushies stage... hopefully they may inspire you!?

Hi all...... bit of a sensitive question. I am on the contraceptive pill (mini pill - progesterone only). The pill I am on totally stops my periods and I haven't had one for months. (I'm deffo not pregnant and this is a known side affect of this pill). I had my band fitted on Saturday 12th July and today I seem to be having some bleeding.. do you think this is just cuz I am dehydrated and the trauma of the surgery along with blood thinning drugs or should I be very worried? I know i am dehydrated by the colour of my urine and my low temperature... I really am trying to drink more today! :tongue_smilie:

I can't answer you question but just wanted to say good luck... I'm sure you will be fine it must be just a quick thing hopefully. Dont worry it sounds like the surgeon is doing the right thing and looking after you rather than ignoring things.

Hi all... I'd appreciate some help with my wound aftercare as I have read and been told so many different things.. I'm hoping people talking from experience is better advice! My incisions were secured by skin glue & sterie strips then breathable dressings put over them.... if you had the same fixin method how soon after the op did you remove your dressings & when did you have your first shower? I am dying to get them off because they pull when you move and probably hurt more than the wounds themselves!! BUT I dont want to get them exposed too soon.... Also would love a shower but am scared to get them wet!! Final question how long did you wear your thombosis stockings for?! I was told 10 days after surgery but they are very annoying and limit what you can wear without looking ridiculous!!
-
thank you everyone... strangley enough a nurse from the hospital called me today for a check on me - which was nice as I wasn't expecting that! She advised to shower in the morning and remove all the dressings in the shower then leave them uncovered unless they rub on clothes - then I should use bandaids until I put clothes on at night that dont catch etc! So that's what i;ll do I think.. As for the stockings - I had to wear floatation boots all night after surgery to keep my circulation moving... I have a blood condition Facor V Leiden (Thombophillia) which basically means I am slightly more prone to clotts than others. Hence wearing stockings still......... they are so awful, tight, hot and a pain so they are coming off at the weekend! Thank you everyone...............
-
That sounds more sensible... the nurse a hospital said they can come off after 3-5 days but I am 5 days already & they look too fresh to be exposed! How much weight have you lost in your month? Do you have any restriction at all? Are you booked for a fill? What sort of portions were/are you eating? so many questions!
-
Aww thanks for that - I didnt think anyone was guna reply to this thread! I feel much better & actually quite good today... but I felt awful until yeserday then I seemed to turn a corner. How soon did you actually finally remove your dressings to leave them exposed permanently?? My dressings were looking a bit horrible from the initial bleeding etc so I changed them yesterday for some pharmacy waterproof dressings so I guess I could jump in the shower.... i've been scared to so been strip washing!! When i saw the wounds they looked ok & like they were binding but still quite open and raw hence concern of getting them wet! But then maybe exposre to fresh air would help heal them??

OMG... its amazing just a couple of days and I feel so much better. I even had a full nights sleep last night without having to get out of bed once last night!! And I slept on my side for a bit. I can sit up easier & the wind is much less painful. I have bought TUMS rather then deflatine.. they are loads better at getting the wind out & they contain Calcium which is great! Yesterday I ate a few mouthfuls of Soup then a sugar free jelly pot and a icelolly all spread out over the wholeday... I felt absolutley stuffed.. this is amazing - i have lost 9lbs now too. Although the cravings are still here I would kill for something to chew - potatoe, chicken or burger or something but time is flying soit wont be long! Its wierd cuz im craving stuff like beef and cabbage... how bizarre it would normally be chocolate and crisps! Mananged to drink ust over a pint yesterday which is still not enough but is more than the day before... I am going for 2 pints today at least!
-
Good luck for today.... i'm guessing my response is too late but I was told to stop eating & drinking by midnight so no Water even after midnight. Let us know how you get on... best of luck.. youll be fine!

Hi Tracey Yes I was at Dolan Park, my surgeon was Mr Martin Richardson. Painkillers were given in the from of soluable paracetamol only.. that tasted yuk & took ages to drink & work... fortunately I took some deflatine & nurofen melts with me.. they just melt on your tongue & work real quick! They gave me 2 blood thining injections.. one in the evening after the operation and then one before I was discharged. They dont give any before surgery otherwise you ooze to much on the table! They were only small injections in the arm. You will have to walk to theatre and get on the table fully awake, they also strap you down whilst awake. Its a bit scary but they are very nice staff... at least if you expect this to happen you can prepare mentally for it. I was so excited like you... feel free to ask any questions... you can email me privately if you have a list!! I feel grotty now but i'm still glad its done & i'll be better in a few days! I think i was convinced I would not suffer after surgery cuz there are many people on here who didn't - so I wasnt prepared in my mind to be in so much pain! But it is tolerable and getting easier... I mean I am only 48hrs post-op really so would expect some pain.

July Bandsters...how much have you lost since surgery??
Me1e replied to MarylandMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was about 1hr 30mins.. not sure how much fluid I was given during the operation. I am finding it difficult to drink much water though as I don't like creating more wind! -
July Bandsters...how much have you lost since surgery??
Me1e replied to MarylandMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on sat 12th July.. I have lost 5lbs so far. Like some of you guys I am so bloated & full of gas its really uncomfortable..... I hate it! Roll on healing & removal of excess gas! -
The trouble is every sip of Water generated more wind... its like torturing yourself!!! hopefully it will ease over the next few days and then I will be able to drink more. I am also finding i am going hot & cold a lot.. maybe a bit of a temperature... is this normal??
-
Thanks all of you.. I feel a bit better today than yesterday but still have major back pain & wind in shoulders, keep getting bubbles go up stomach and through band but they don't make it out as a burp... they really hurt! Also my port wound feels like it is putting lots of pressure on something.. feels really tight but that could be the dressings - I find they pull!! Today I sneezed - god that hurt... I am so scared that it will damage or move the band! I am walking around the house and not lying down but my back ache is so horrible I could cry! Don't you just wish you could be knocked out for the first week and wake up healed! I never thought it would be so painful... I'm gutted because i keep reading about all the people who felt amazing straight after & had no wind etc... I wonder why I have so much pain! Could it be to do with the type of band ? I had a APS (Small) - the surgeon told me it was quite restrictive & tight already on me. I just hope that it gets better soon! I am scared to even drink my fluids cuz it makes the wind worse....... I've tried deflatine, Rennie, walking and all sorts! aghhhh how annoying! :smile2:
