Hello Shasta, I'm 56 and was banded on 7/03/08. My starting weight was 270. I've had 4 fills, yesterday was my fourth fill. I have 7cc now in a 10cc Realize band. I've lost 35 lbs. I've been exercizing alot and doing weights so I've been loosing inches and have only lost a couple of pounds in the last 4 weeks. I'm hoping with the fill yesterday I'll start loosing again soon. I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing and I know I'll eventually get to my goal weight. -
12 cc band...no restriction
wstone replied to lynne baldwin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded on 7/10 and I have a 9cc band. I got my second fill week before last. They told me it generally takes 4 to 5 fills to get you where you need to be. She said some people may take even more but the majority need 4 to 5 fills. I'm calling today to schedule my next fill. Hope this helps, Waynette -
Hi SkinnyDeb, I had my surgery July 10 at Baylor Plano and I did not hurt at all. I'm 56 years old. I was uncomfortable a couple of days due to gas but it was not bad at all. I went for my 2 week checkup Thursday and my Doctor released me to do anything I want to do so you should be able to play tennis. I don't even feel like I ever had surgery. Hope this helps. Waynette

Dr. Nick Nicholson Plano,Texas (Any Information)
wstone replied to poohprecious's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dr Nicholson does put everyone on a 2 week pre op diet. But it was not bad at all. It consists of 5 Slimfast shakes or Slimfast bars a day, 2 cup of non starchy vegetables and 5 oz of lean meat. I did it and I never was hungry. I had a Slimfast shake for Breakfast, a bar for a snack, shake for lunch, bar for snack, my veggies and meat for dinner and another bar for last snack. Much easier than most of the preop diets I've seen. Waynette -
I had my surgery last a week ago today and was back at work Monday. I had no problems returning to work on Monday. I've had no pain other than being a little uncomfortable at times from gas. Good Luck!!! Waynette

Thank you for the list of clear proteins, that helps alot!!! Waynette

What does this mean???
wstone replied to MiamiChick1532's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also have Great West and was approved for Lap Band. I was banded Thursday July 10. I had to get my MD to send them 5 years of my medical records. I also had to provide proof of a weight management for 6 months. Luckly I had been going to Weight Watchers so I gave them a copy of my bank statement showing proof of payment to WW. I also gave them a letter from Lifetime Fitness as proof that I had been on an exercise plan for 6 months. I believe that is all I gave them . I think one thing that helped me get approved was because I have a hernia that needs to be repaired and I also need to loose some weight in order to have Breast Reconstruction from breast cancer. My Breast Cancer Surgeon sent in my medical records and I was approved as medical necessity. I hope that helps. Waynette -
Hi Beverly, I had no problem with milk products when doing my liquid pre op. I was banded Thursday July 10 and I now cannot drink milk products. I was drinking slimfast and I was getting so bloated with gas I thought something was wrong with the band. It really scared me. I called the Doctor yesterday and they told me to not drink any Protein shakes that are milk based. Now I'm back on just broth, Crystal Light, and sugar free popcicles. Please let me know if you find a good source of protein that is not milk based. Thanks, Waynette

Dr Nicholson put my band in Thursday July 10th. He was recommended to me by my Breast Cancer surgeon. He was going to put my in at Baylor Plano but the girl that does his scheduling scheduled me for Friday and he was going to be gone to a seminar so mine had to be moved to Baylor Garland Surgery Center. I had a great experience! All his nurses were very friendly and they had my husband and I laughing all the way up till time for me to go into surgery. My surgery nurse held my hand in the OR until I went to sleep. Everyone was wonderful!!! I think you'll be glad Dr Nicholson is doing your surgery. Good Luck with your surgery and let me know how it goes. Waynette -
Hi Lucy! My surgery went very well. The only problem I have now is my stomach feels like it's a baloon blow up to maxium capiciaty. I've been taking Pepicid, Gas X and something else and nothing seems to help. Did you have a problem with gas and if so what did you take for it?. It's making me miserable. I noticed that you have already lost 50 lbs, that's fantastic!! I'll hope I do as well as you have.

Question about amt to drink after surgery
wstone posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can someone please tell me how much and how often I should drink some fluids after getting banded? I was banded day before yesterday and I'm on full fluids only. It says 2 to 3 oz. Does that mean Water also? If I'm having a high Protein shake do I only dring 2 to 3 oz and wait awhile before I can have water or anything else? Thank You, Waynette -
Newly banded, what is this feeling?
wstone replied to Rivieramaya05's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded Thursday and I'm feeling the same thing. I feel very bloated. I think what were feeling is just gas. I've been chewing a lot of Gas X tablets and they seem to be helping. Waynette -
Hi Debbles, I was banded July 10th. I'm doing great also. I've walked 1/4 mile last yesterday evening. The only promblem I'm having right now is gas. My stomach is so bloated and it feels full of gas. I'm hoping if I keep walking alot it will finally pass. I'm glad to hear you are doing so well. Waynette

Hello July Butterflys!! I got my band put in yesterday. Everything went well. I was banded at Baylor Surgery Center in Garland and loved the place. All the nurses and staff were so friendly and fully. They had my husband and I laughing all the way up to me going in the surgery room. My surgery nurse as a hoot! She stood and held my hand in the surgery room until I was asleep. When I woke up in recovery I had another wonderful nurse taking care of me. I'm really surprised how easy everything went. My Doctor also repaired a hiental hernia (not sure on the spelling) while he was in there. In the recovery room before they let me go home, they put a wide elastic band around my stomach. I think that has helped tremendously. I stayed a my Mom's last night which is just across the pasture from my house. She has a hospital bed and that made it much easier sleeping last night. I actually sept like a baby last night. I'm glad it's all over with and I'm on my way to a slim me. I hope everyone that's banded has as good a experience as I did. Good luck to all that are being banded this month. Waynette

Hi Rose, I don't have any questions now, but I'm sure I will after I'm banded. I'm being banded day after tomorrow the 10th. I just wanted to tell you how nice it is for you to offer this for the people that no one responds to. I hope I can say when I'm 5 weeks out that I've lost that much. Thanks again, Waynette

Anyone use Dr. Nicholson at Baylor Plano
wstone replied to wstone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Marianne, I had my pre op testing done Thursday. I had to have blood work, Upper GI and EKG. I'm surprised they didn't do any on you even if your young. I was orginally scheduled to have my done at the hospital but the scheduling girl made a mistake and I didn't want to wait longer to have it done. The only way Dr Nicholson could do it this week was to move my surgery to Garland and I agreed to that. I'm really getting nervous, only 2 days left before surgery. I sure hope my surgery goes as well as yours. Good luck on your new band and your weight loss journey. Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing. Waynette -
Anyone use Dr. Nicholson at Baylor Plano
wstone replied to wstone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad your surgery went well. I hope mine will go well also. Did you like having the surgery at a surgery center instead of a hospital? The lab people at Baylor Plano said they thought I would like the surgery center better than the hospital. I've only seen Dr. Nicholson twice. I saw him at the seminar and for the consultation. It seems kind of weird only seeing him twice and he's going to be doing the surgery. I will have to find a support group after my surgery also. Best of luck with your weight loss journey!!! Waynette -
Hello everyone, I found out yesterday that I'm being banded on July 10 instead of the 11th. My Doctor's nurses scheduled my surgery when my Doctor was going to be out of town at a seminar. They called yesterday and we rescheduled it for the 10th at Baylor Surger Center in Garland instead of Baylor Plano. One week from today it will be my turn. Will you please change my date on the list? Thank You Waynette Waynette
