I got my date :) September 16th
Sandra Nuelken replied to Lynda486's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I hate cooking or mixing or kitchen stuff, so I like Ensure Max it has 30g of protein and 2 of those almost make my daily needs. I am also adding clear Premier protein peach flavored to my caffeine-free ice tea. My doc said clear liquids for the first week so I have chicken broth low sodium, and they have a high protein vegetable broth at Publix. Then the second week is full liquids for 2 weeks then soft foods for 3 weeks. I think finding a protein drink that you like and can go to often is the most important part of this. Prior to surgery, I had a diet that included protein drinks, and again after the surgery and the remainder of your life. -
Binge eating-14 months after surgery
Sandra Nuelken replied to Andrejeus's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I've never been a binge eater, having said that I just don't have stuff in the house that is not good for me. Sometimes if only a piece of dark chocolate will quiet the voice I break a corner off and savor it. I would go back to your counselor to see why and what is causing it. Also have you tried OA they may help too before you lose your way. -

I found a protein drink I liked. Then took the time to eat special meals that I really love. Got a Fitbit for counting steps and started logging meals on MyFitnessPal. The as the date came closer I started a list of those things I wanted to do once I lost the weight. Good luck on your journey! My date is July 30. -
Fitting in all my favorite foods
Sandra Nuelken replied to apiane's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the same it took 4 days. I had southern BLT, shrimp, and grits with collards, a local side salad, and a pastrami sandwich. I gained 2 pounds savored each bite and don't regret a thing. I'm now 3 days from surgery and down 10 pounds so 2 of those were wonderful. -
Welcome to the site. I find it to extremely helpful as I've scanned older posts and the new ones. My surgery is Tuesday and I'm on the pre-op diet.

Lies to tell people about what surgery I am having
Sandra Nuelken replied to a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am scheduled for July 30. Prior to this I had the lap band and lost almost 100 pounds in one year. I didn't tell anyone and really when I started out I was so heavy that losing 40 pounds really didn't show much. It wasn't until I changed my clothing size that some people noticed. The people I worked closely with commented on how nice I looked and some of those I confided in and shared my journey. When I explained how difficult the journey was and how my health was in serious danger they were very supportive. The others did not ask and I did not offer. I just lived my journey for 7 years. Then the band failed. So now here I go again. This time the eating is easier as I'm used to the protein first, veggies second. I will choose to have no bread as that is a real passion of mine. I wish you luck on your journey. Be kind to yourself. -
So very happy you are home and recovering! I go in Tuesday for my surgery.

Sleep Apnea worries, child mad I’m getting the surgery...words of advice/encouragement needed
Sandra Nuelken replied to Cherylmilla's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is a big difference between your age and your son's. When you are hitting over 300 pounds, been there done that, exercise is not really effective. Had a friend who tried it and ended up replacing knees, rotators because of the stress. You are doing what is best for you and what will make you healthy. You don't need his permission and he doesn't have to give it. Think only what is best for you and then do it. Your son will eventually come around. Have him do some research and he will find out that without this 90% of the people who use exercise and diet alone regain. -
July 30 here for sleeve. Meet with the doctor Monday and surgery on Tuesday 6am. Nerves setting in I would love to have a glass of wine.

Protein shakes for picky protein drinkers
Sandra Nuelken replied to branlee90's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I liked both Ensure Max and during the day I put Premiere protein peach flavored into my iced caffeine-free tea. Just a splash and by the end of the day I've done in one bottle. That is 50g of protein. The rest is easy. -
gastric sleeve consult yesterday

Once you decide that food is not your friend, but good health and the freedom to do what you want when you want, you will be ready to start down the road. After you make the commitment then you will need to eat less, eat slower, eat protein first. I loaded MyFitnessPal and became real honest with what I was eating then as I got closer to the surgery date I am on the presurgery diet eating tons of protein and drinking a lot. My surgery is Tuesday and I'm ready body mind and spirit. -
So happy it went well and good luck with your upcoming date. Don't be surprised if nerves set in then. I'm 5 days and counting and all of a sudden the nerves are setting in.

Venting about my husband
Sandra Nuelken replied to BlueAngelEyes's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've been married for a long time so I'm saying this from experience. The first time I lost the weight with the band my husband traveled so I guess I was lucky. Just a thought, most men don't know how to be supportive so they need clear instructions. Have a family meeting and sit everyone down and tell them what you need from them. Tell them how they can be a part of your victory. Don't purchase junk food, only healthy food. Tell your husband that he can demonstrate his love and support by eating healthy, take the kids out for the junk food and to be supportive. I've told my husband this time that he will be responsible for his meals. I may pick them up but I am not responsible for them. I'm on my pre-op diet now. As for snacks, he can't have anything I like, at this time. We will take this one week at a time. Tomorrow is a rotessori chicken day I will take my 4oz and the veggies and he and the dogs will get the rest. Your mind will take a year to catch up to your size. Take a lot of pics so you can see the difference. You have to remember we never thought we were as big as we were, so it makes sense we won't notice how small we are either. Keep venting here if it helps. -

You should be recovering by now. I know you can do this. My day is one week from now. Keep us posted. -
I got my machine because I needed the diagnosis and machine for insurance approval. Mine was free so it was a no brainer. I've been diligent in using it, my husband says I don't snore anymore. As soon as the weight is off then I'll give it a try without it. I have Medicare so I had to have something besides weight for them to cover the surgery.

I like Costco rotisserie chicken, I just about shred it into tiny pieces then put cold-pressed olive oil on it with Italian seasonings. My cholesterol is amazingly low the good is high. I try to work at least a teaspoon of olive oil into my meal plan each day. I also like it on my cottage cheese, it makes it taste a bit Italian. My doctor said if he had my Cholesterol readings he would be so very happy. Just a thought.

I use Ensure plus, fairly new on the market, I put ice cubes in it and sip it in the morning. I prefer Chocolate but they have cafe mocha which has a hit of caffeine. The Premium peach protein drink (clear) I mix with caffeine-free ice tea to make peach tea. One of each and I've met the protein goal. The tea I drink all day with just a shot of peach protein. I find it far too sweet. The powders I have to go with the vegetarian protein powders and they are expensive. The others just gas me up.
