    Single Bandster in PA

Hey all... It's been a little over 3 months since I've made the choice to have the lapband surgery, and take the steps toward getting it done. In the process, I've been watching a few different forums. This one in general, has made me think about how nifty it would be to meet a guy that is/has/will be getting banded as well. As with most people, I've had my ups and downs in relationships. Just thought I would throw this thought out there and see if it's crossed anyone elses mind. Has anyone taken this journey with their partner or met someone along the way that has also been banded and you are now dating? Just curious! Thanks!

I need someone to help me through this

I was banded by Dr. Currie on 07/28/08. He was excellent.. and all went very well!! If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to get in touch. You're making a great choice.. you won't regret anything.. and you will be a much healthier person.. promise!

    Females - Surgery questions...

When I had surgery.. I could only wear the gown. Thankfully, I wasn't cath'd either. From reading other posts on here, people have said that the hospital will provide you with some protection if you have your period on surgery day.
  4. Drink a cup of apple juice & just wait it out.. I wouldn't do a laxative.. your stomach has already been through enough. Personally, I was banded Monday.. and it didn't happen for me until Friday. Make sure you are taking a vitamin & getting all your protein in too.. it's helps!
  5. Just a tip for future, umm..'issues'.. if you are on clear liquids, have some apple juice.. if you are on mushies, have some applesauce.. and if you are on real food, have an apple.. it will naturally help with constipation.. also, a tablespoon of benefiber or something of that sort is much easier on the stomach with the same effect. It can be mixed in your flavored water, brothes, anything really..because there's no taste to it. Hope this helps!
  6. Nikole.. I had tomato soup yesterday too..and was banded on 07/28/08. Some of the things you described were the same for me. I just let it all work its way down & made a mental note for next time. Today, I had Cream of Chicken soup with 1% Milk. I drank much slower this time.. nothing a half hour prior or after.. and I felt much better. My stomach has been growling too, but for some odd reason, it's not the same sensation I had post-surgery where I felt the need to go to the kitchen & eat to make it go away. My thoughts are that the gas is still doing crazy stuff to my body too! I'm interested to see what others post! Good Luck!
  7. Today is day 3 post-op for me. I started full liquids today.. and I'm having more gas pain than yesterday on clear liquids. 4oz in 2 hours was the goal on clear liquids. From what I've read on full liquids.. the goal is to get 64 oz in for the day. Cream soup never tasted so good!

    Post Op pain med

I just came home today.. surgery was yesterday. In the hospital, I was given an anti-botic through IV to keep infection away internally. I was also given Protonix through IV to help with the gas. That seems to be the worst part so far.. that, and the sore throat I got from some meany who wasn't careful with the oxygen during surgery. Morphine was available, but only if I asked.. and so was Vicodin (pill form)..again, only if I asked for it. At discharge, I was given a script for Vicodin, if needed. Today, my biggest incision, close to the belly button, it a bit tender, but that's about it. Overall, I'm just relieved to be on the other side of the banding now. The weight loss journey & organizing my new lifestyle is the main focus.

    Sick Before Pre-Op :(

As long as you are keeping food down.. not the full on flu.. I'm pretty sure you will be fine to go ahead with the pre-op. The EKG takes longer to set up than it does to test. The Chest X-ray doesn't take very long either once you're done sitting in the waiting room forever. That was all the pre-op testing I had to do. If anything, just give your physician a call to be sure they are ok with your current ailment. Good Luck!

    Post Op pain med

My surgery is tomorrow. The surgeon advised he would be sending me home with a prescription for something that begins with a "C".. but it's not Codeine.. and I can't remember the name. When I come home on Tuesday.. I'll follow up! Thanks!

    Starting to scare myself

My surgery is Monday.. and all the 'what if's' are racing through my mind. I haven't been able to find any ratio on the bands outcome rate.. but I'm curious. Lack of control is mostly why I'm paranoid. Wonder if the nurse can give me something to calm my nerves when I arrive? I don't want to be a blubbering fool!
  15. Can I ask what pain meds were prescribed after surgery?
  16. Spiffytif21

    butterflies in my belly

My nerves are on high too. My surgery is a week from Monday. I had surgery when I was 2 yrs old to repair closed tear ducts & a lazy eye, but I don't recall anything. As an adult, this is the first operation I've ever had under anesthia. The biggest fear I have is not waking up, or something going wrong during surgery. The anxiety is driving me crazy. How did everyone cope with pre-op strategies to get you through surgery?

    Day Prior to surgery...

My surgeon advised of having a light dinner the night before surgery, nothing after midnight, and if needed, up to 6oz of clear liquids up to two hours prior to surgery. Post-op requires 3 days of clear liquids once I come home, 1-2 weeks of 'mushies' & clear liquids, then progress into light meals such as fish or chicken & soft veggies. I have been under the impression that right after surgery my portion size will decrease drastically because I will feel full much faster. Guess it depends on the person, and how well the surgeons directions are followed. Good Luck!

    Friends?! :-(

Love this post!!! I, too, have had many people give me 'the look' when I reveal that I'm having lap-band surgery to assist with my weight loss. Most think I'm scheduling a death sentence, or I won't be normal ever again. Some are supportive, some are curious, and several have gastric bypass confused for lapband. Lack of knowledge is the culprit for all of these people. I believe I'll be fine as long as I listen to my doctor and follow his advice. It's for my own sake. Personally, I have heard of a few people having issues with their band (never heard of anyone dying from it).. and those people didn't follow directions. They ate 'real' food too soon.. they tried to do too much physical activity too fast.. or they weren't mental set for the post-op phase. Use the words of others to fuel your fire to prove to them this choice is a great choice! Best of Luck!

    Scarring pictures

I'll be banded at the end of the month.. and scarring was one of my concerns too. I have yet to meet anyone that's angry or self-conscious of their scars. That's not too shabby at all. In fact, my cousin had gastric 4 yrs ago. Her scars are so small and faded now that you really have to look to see them. Don't let a good war mark hold you back!
  20. Hi all! I'm looking for a buddy to share updates, triumphs, advice, and motivation. My surgery is scheduled for July 28th. All the pre-op steps have been completed, so now I'm just preparing myself mentally for what's to come. My surgeon has advised that the pre-op liquid diet isn't necessary, just a light dinner the night before surgery.. no more then 6oz of fluids the day of surgery. Having a buddy would be wonderful because we can acknowledge each other by experience.. hand in hand, step by step. Thanks! :wink2:

    Guy in New York

Do you have GERD (heartburn), acid reflux, or anything that is sometimes intense while/after eating? Do you get winded fairly easily? Does your body ache by days end because of all the excess weight you are carrying around? Just some daily fatigue issues that your doctor may consider adding to you chart for insurance reasons. Best of Luck!
  24. I'm sorry.. my pre-op testing is the 17th, that will come back in 2-3 days, then I'll see the nutrionist for my diet plan. I haven't been told that I will have to do a liquid diet for pre-op. Matter of fact, I didn't have to diet at all because my BMI is below 50. My insurance was approaved 2 weeks ago, so that's all taken care of & out of the way. From reading & talking to people, I've heard that protein is the hardest to get in at first, so I went out & bought Whey protein powder. Slim fast will be my friend too, I've picked up two containers of powder mix, pudding, chicken broth, and light soups, like tomato. My mind is set & I'm ready for the challenge, my biggest fear is the actual surgery.
  25. My pre-op is June 17th, then I see the dietician for a pamphlet to help me if I need a reference, ideas, or just suggestion at hand. My surgery date isn't set yet, but I'm hoping to be banded by the first week in July. Ugh.. I'm nervous! :tongue2:
