    March 2019 sleepers

Came back for some advice which I found very quickly. This board is such a great resource. Down 56 from 3/26, Diabetes in full remission and no longer on meds, BP way down, Sleep Apnea pretty much gone. 3 pant sizes so far and 14 pounds to goal. Not too much skin flab but noticeable muscle loss, along with the fat. Working on this. Also, I live at 9000ft elevation so I can get a bit dizzy. Well done to all the Marchers! Just think how very many are inspired by your stories and don't leave a comment. They are out there!

    Diabetic and sleeved

Back to this thread to share that one month out from my March 26th sleeve, I was taken off my last Diabetes med and I am in full remission. Yes, I have done great with weight loss and I'm down 3 pant sizes BUT the metabolic benefit was my main goal and I couldn't be happier. I've also been taken off my BiPap and am told I'll only need an appliance for a short time for my formerly severe sleep apnea. My BP is around 124/68 and hopefully my BP meds are next to reduce/eliminate. Things that were trying to kill me are failing because of my sleeve. That ^ is an amazing sentence to type.

    Belly button cut?

I got a bonus hernia repair in my belly button so yes, there's a heal going on there. Apparently they will have to redo it in a year after my weight loss because a big 'outie' is going to appear. I'm okay with that.

    Feeing hungry, post op week2

I just started the pureed diet after being hungry for two weeks. After two days on it now I've found that having just that little bit of bulk is very helpful to curb cravings. Mush veggies, tuna/w pickles and last night's creamy onion soup really does fill me up. I'm pleased with this because I was quite worried I was going to overdo it.

Sunshine, since I'm just starting the pureed phase I can't offer any advice. However, I am interested in how you will resolve this and am rooting for you. Let us know what works, because you will get past this!

Othella, I was big and have a great deal of muscle mass. I'm also being very strict about the diet and exercise (like you probably are as well) and I also am no longer diabetic. All these things are probably helping and I think 20 pounds is just the first of many 20 pound drops for you!

    Overeating with Sleeve

Milhouse, I'm grateful for your post. I'm 2 weeks out and just started pureed diet and was wondering the same thing. Slightly dizzy, low-energy and I don't seem to have issues with 'overfilling'. I mushed up about half a cup of veggies/broth last night and had no issues wiht the amount, which got me wondering. I'm doing great, lost 30 so far and very happy, but I had the same concerns. Thanks to all who added insight.

Just found this forum. Sleeved March 26th and doing well. Down 30 and excited about the pureed diet. I'm staying hydrated which has always been a habit since I live at 9000ft altitude. I'm getting in my walking too. No more diabetes meds/insulin. That was my biggest goal and this has me over the moon! Slightly concerned about remaining food cravings, but I'm doing pretty good trying to ignore them. Me <---- Blessed

      Hey there,

I'm down 36 from 3/26, on pureed foods for another week. Walking every day and I've noticed my sciatica has decreased considerably. Struggling a little with the chunkiest of meals and also having significant challenges with not drinking during my meals. I've always had liquids while eating and when I slip and forget, it is very uncomfortable.

Thanks for asking. How's your journey going?

      The 56 Bypass

It sounds like you are doing quite well. I don't even take a glass of liquids to the table when I have a meal. That way I can avoid going on auto pilot and drinking. I still struggle with eating too fast, but I have seen a decrease in it over time. I am happy for you because this is an awesome journey. I am going to share with you what I've shared with others:

If there is anything I've learned from WLS, its that it is not a miracle cure. You'll have your weight loss honeymoon period, but then you will reach a point were work will be required. However, as opposed to before WLS when we worked so hard to lose weight with very little results, if you work hard this time around, you will be aptly rewarded with phenomenal results. It really makes me wonder about certain people's bodies before WLS. Decades ago, I was told by a therapist that I had a very efficient digestive system. Apparently some people's bodies digest more efficiently than others? I am not really sure, but what I do know is I am not the lousy, slothful, weight loser I had always thought I was. I always worked really really hard, just like I am now, and I just could never get it all off and what I did get off always came back with a vengeance. I used to beat myself up emotionally, calling myself the worst "lazy ass" names for not being able to get control of my weight. I am really beginning to believe some people metabolize food quite differently than others and this is why some people are predisposed to weight issues and some are not. I have a set of twin girls (adopted) and one gains weight EXTREMELY easily and the other does not. This was even the case when they were babies and fed the exact same thing. There has really got to be something going on metabolically. Anyway, this WLS is the very special extra boost some of us need and I am very happy that you now can enjoy this tool, too! 🙂 I wasn't never a lousy, lazy, slothful person. This WLS and the results I am now enjoying finally prove that to myself.

    Diabetic and sleeved

Hi Rima, I just found this forum. I am 2 weeks post-op and was on 3 oral diabetes meds + insulin prior. A week after surgery my meter was giving me readings between 64 - 89. This worried me as I have never been that low since I was diagnosed. I called my NP manager and she said, don't worry...this is what normal is. She then took me off my only oral I was crushing. It has been a week and I feel tremendous and my post-op appointment with my surgeon was completely positive. My readings are now almost all in the 80's and I intend to keep them there. He said I'm in remission and it could last for years. Eventually I may have to go back to treating diabetes, but he said it would be a very minimal oral med. Because this is the underlying reason I chose surgery with weight loss secondary, I couldn't be happier! (someone cutting onions?) Best of luck to you with your journey.
