Not to step on the toes of the Jacksonville group but with gas being so high I wondered if anyone else was near Lake City (Gainesville) and would like to try and start up a group? I have 2 other friends near Lake City who are interested. One is a bander and one had the bypass. Carol

I'm feeling really depressed. I got my band on May 12th. It hasnt been as easy as everyone told me. My recovery was decent but my fills.... an absolute nightmare. The first fill took NINE stabs with that huge needle. Let me say that I did agree to the 9 stabs because I am pretty tough and I didnt want to come back another day to go under the ultrasound. I have a 1 and 2 yr old and no babysitter. My hubby stayed home that day to keep them. This past Thursday I went for my 2nd fill. I had lost 4 lbs in 4 weeks but he still yelled at me. Apparently I cant do anything right. He got a little saline happy and gave me 5ccs in my 9 cc band. It once again took 9 stabs and we both wanted me to get good restriction. I threw up a few times but honestly thought that I was ok. I left and went home. I realized about 6 that evening that I couldnt "tough it out" and something was VERY wrong. I called and was told by the on call to go to the ER. I got there at 11pm. I waited until 6am for a bed. I literally threw up 60 times. My saliva was pooling in my pouch and when it filled up I would throw up. I got an IV and zofran. My surgeon showed up around 7. He was pretty nice. He took all 5 cc out and put 4 back in. I stayed for 2 hours and drank an entire cup of Water (slowly) and kept it down. I could barely drink today and I did manage to nibble a little. I finally feel better. I was so upset Thurs night that I was swearing I would rather have just died fat. This has been a nightmare. I've lost 15 lbs since May 12th. I feel like I'm destined to fail at this because I cant even get the fills right. Thanks for listening. Carol

I need to vent or something
swtbtrcup replied to swtbtrcup's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was already at 3 cc with absolutely no restriction. He added 2 cc. I am now at 4 cc because he took 1 cc out at the ER. I think he yelled at me more because I said I had eaten a cheeseburger. I wasnt sure what the big deal was because I honestly didnt realize that meat and cheese were that bad. I mean I could have said I'd eaten a pint of ice cream ya know... I have repeatedly told him that I am stay at home mom to a 1 and 2 yr old and my husband is out of town 4 days a week and the 3 days he is home he works 12 hour shifts at their sister hospital. Sometimes I have to eat whatever I can get my hands on. Oh well. Live and learn. -

Thank you all very much. I do like my doctor. If he honestly didnt care about his patients then he wouldnt get on to his when we screw up. I feel lots better today. I was able to eat a few bites of chili last night. It was so good. I hope its an "allowed" food haha. I figured it was ok since it had beans and meat in and I really needed the protein. -
I had my 2nd fill today. I wasnt losing very well so my doctor wanted to give me good restriction. We have an AWFUL time with my fills. It took 9 stabs (I was willing otherwise he wouldnt do it that many times) So he put it in and had me drink Water. I was ok at first and then it ALL came back up. They had to me stay for over an hour. A drank some more and some came back and some didnt. He said I could go if I felt like I was ok with the fill. To be honest I just didnt want stabbed again to take any out and I really want to lose weight. He also said that he will do one more fill and then he will have to move my port because its too hard to get to. I cant afford another surgery and Im sure insurance would deny paying for it. Since I've gotten home I can't keep anything down. I tried water, gatorade, apple sauce.... it all eventually comes back up. I've even had some really foamy white stuff. The kicker is my kids have had a stomach virus so I dont know if the throwing up is the fill or from the virus. I live 75 miles from the doctors office and I have a 1 and 2 yr old so I cant just go down there. My husband suggested I try to tough it out for a day or two to see if it loosens up some. What do you guys think? What do you recommend? Thanks Carol

2nd fill of 2 cc today... in pain and PB
swtbtrcup replied to swtbtrcup's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I never EVER want to be that sick again. I spent from 11p-6am in the ER waiting on a room. I knew that by the time I got in a room my lapband surgeon would be starting his day so it worked out. He came in around 7. They gave me zofran (seriously, I had thrown up 60 times... I was throwing up nothing but saliva!) and an IV. He said I was smart to come in because it was only going to get worse. I said yes I soon realized that I couldnt tough this one out. He luckily only had to stick me twice. He pulled it all out and put 4 cc back. I drank a cup of Water VERY SLOWLY and stayed until 9. I did get sick a couple of more times after I got home but I think it was more from irritaton. I pretty much slept from 11a-4p and then 8p-6a. I feel better and Ive been able to drink a cup of coffee. Here's to hoping 4 cc is my magic number! And my next fill.... I plan to stay in my dr's office atleast an hour before leaving. -
2nd fill of 2 cc today... in pain and PB

Thanks everyone. I have realized that its not improving. I cant keep anything down at all. Im totally miserable. I will be calling them. I may even call the on call and see what they say. -
I feel relieved to know I am not alone. I lost 14 lbs in the first 2 weeks and got yelled at for losing too much. Now I am worried Im not losing at all. I can eat much for than 4-6 oz and I can pretty much eat anything. I had to go out of town and had to eat whatever was offered at my friends so I learned real quick that I have no issues. I am feeling so discouraged. My fill isnt for a couple of weeks.

Update requested from May bandsters.. May 11th, 12th, etc....
swtbtrcup replied to mstrina27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone. I got my Realize band on May 12th. I arrived at 6 am. Im not sure what time I went back. I think around 8. I was in my room by 10. I was given Jello, tea, Water and broth. I had a lot of shoulder pain. I was on a morphine pump that didnt help much. I was walking around a few hours later. I went home the next day after having my barium swallow. Recovery has been great. I am sore and bruised but other wise doing great. -
Thanks! I will try to get it added later when the girls go to bed.

My surgery was yesterday. I feel pretty good. Just sore from the surgery. It almost feels like when you do sit ups and arent used to them. I stayed overnight. My surgery was pretty similiar to everyone else's. Carol -

Fatty liver disease and pain
swtbtrcup replied to swtbtrcup's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Elizabeth. -
I have fatty liver disease. I had a liver biopsy 10 days ago so we know that it is only fatty liver and not cirrhossis. I have alot of pain where my liver is. They can't tell me why and pain pills don't help. My surgery is Monday and I'm on clears. It seems to have made the pain worse. I would have thought the "shrinking" diet would have made the pain lessen. Anyone else experience this? Any ideas? I know it will get better after I lose weight. I've had my gallbladder taken out. I do know my spleen is slightly enlarged due to my liver. Thanks Carol

ur What Tests Did You Need Pre-Op?
swtbtrcup replied to Kat56's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I met with the surgeon. I then had to get letters from my pcp and my hematologist (I have a blood clotting disorder). I went to a seminar. I then had my psych eval and a barium swallow. I had an EKG and bloodwork done. I had recently had a CT scan and liver biopsy so i did not have to have the chest xray. I also had an EGD back in Oct. -
I will be staying overnight.
