Dawn: That is a beautiful image of you running at dawn in the Arctic cold. You have my total respect! You are almost at goal, too. The running becomes so much easier after six weeks. Keep going! Julie has made incredible progress on that program. I basically did the same thing and now I can run four miles after 3 1/2 months. Betty: I hope you have made it down here to "Sunny California" by now. I've worried about all my friends and family in the Northwest. How long will you be in San Diego? Amourette: You are so funny! I love your posts. You are adorable.
-
Hi, I just want to say that you all ROCK! The workouts during the holiday season are sooo impressive! Thanks for the inspiration and support!! I feel very blessed to be here.
-
Kat, I vote that you post pics at every milestone! Be proud (from the closet bandster)! I have a trampoline in my yard. It is fun to jump around and look at the neighbor's yards. Whenever kids come over to play they love it. It does take space, though. And I bought a big net enclosure so no one will fall off.
-
Amourette: I don't think I have a profile...I am a closet bandster. So you have my complete respect posting pics! The only pics I will show will be attached to a private e-mail. Which I will figure out how to do pretty soon. My location is Los Angeles, but I was raised in Seattle. Thanks for asking! Julie: You have my complete empathy! Euphoria at each loss is followed by impatience and self-contempt for every stall or plateau. As you get thinner, the scale might move slower. Exercise has been essential for me to have any weight-loss! I'm glad everyone is feeling better! I am OFFICIALLY back "on-track." PLEASE, no more bronchitis! Ran 4 miles tonight...yipee!
-
Wow! It is so much fun to see pictures. Amourette, you are so pretty! You have a very sweet face. And Betty, your transformation is quite inspiring for a short eight months of banding! Classy lady! Isn't this exciting? I am in and out of Seattle fairly regularly, and live there for about a month during the smoggy summertime of L.A. A reward meeting would be a blast. We can go to Betty's and then waterski at our lake house! Well...maybe that doesn't sound fun, but Seattle IS beautiful in the summer. Fun to think about! What is the 6 day challenge? I missed that one. A relapse of bronchitis has got me down.
-
Julie, that is FANTASTIC!!!! Bluehill, too! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: The weight is just pouring off of you. You are melting! This is what I do every time I lose ONE stinking pound: You must be doing this:Banane13: and this:Banane10: , but hopefully, not this:Banane21: Roberta, glad to hear from you. Kat, I'm getting sick again, too...took the wrong antibiotics (oops).
-
Julie: I think that the cardio circuit training is good to protect your knees, hips, and ankles from too much jarring until more weight comes off. For me, getting into the 70's-80's made a HUGE difference. Also, when you walk an incline, make sure it is not too steep, because you can easily get tendonitis from the strain (Achiles and behind the knee). You are doing amazing! I told you, you're gonna beat me to my goal!! Eficka: YEAH!!! You are back! Your picture is so cute! Kat: I love the stories of your granddaughter...sounds so fun. Dawn: I've been to Canada and Alaska...in the SUMMER! The closest I've been to the Arctic is getting some sort of milkshake called "Arctic freeze or blast." I admire you! Your life sounds like that TV show, "Northern Exposure." Bluehill: How are you doing? Did you finish the lefse? My mouth has been watering ever since!
-
Hey, Betty! That is great! We are on about the same track. I just got into the 160's. It is so exciting everytime you change a digit! The weight-loss is rather slow for me, but life keeps changing significantly. Crossing my legs is natural now. And I can actually find clothes in the regular stores. The exercise is essential for me to continue losing. Not only do the numbers on the scale move, but my body is changing (tighter), and I have come to cherish the solitude of an evening run. It puts my head and soul in a good place. Love it! Keep it up, everyone!
-
Welcome, DAWN and SCHEL!!! Join the fun! People really LIVE in the Artic? I thought just Polar Bears live there. I've been complaining, here in L.A., that I have to wear warm PJ's at night now. We are thinking about turning on the heat at night, soon. (I'm spoiled, huh?)
-
Julie: Running is a little tricky because you do have to be so in tune with your body to prevent injuries. I have not run since my 90 minute run on Thursday because I felt I overdid it. (not real sore, just don't want to risk it) So I fast walked! There is also a difference between running and jogging. Do you stop and walk in intervals? That is really important. With the slower pace, I don't feel I am getting hurt (used to run 6 minute mile compared to 11 minutes, now) As the weight comes off, a lighter body will make a huge difference, too. As far as running two days in a row...my niece is a distance runner and has started coaching. She has a serious run every other day. On the odd days, she'll either jog or hike or weight train, or swim. I really enjoy running/jogging and feel I can handle it about 4 times a week. But I enjoy some variety, also. So to mix it up, I work on the elliptical, hike the hills above my house, ride a bike (good for the knees), and dance (wouldn't you love to see that?) Next year, swimming or working in the pool will be a good alternative. When you work with your trainer are you weight training? You've done a great job sticking with the workouts! If I were your trainer, I would have you do some running for the cardiovascular work, combined with fast walk at 3-6 degree incline, combined with bike at level 3, combined with elliptical. Cross training works the muscles differently. You could do each machine for 10-15 minutes and still have time for weight resistance. Then on the odd days, go for your jog/run and then stretch. I hope that made some sense!

Anyone use protein shake diet to boost weight loss?

I've been fighting plateaus since September. Protein shakes and running work every time! -

Bluehill: I haven't made lefse in years!! My grandmother taught me when I was little. It is a lot of work! Just stay away from the lutefisk!

Good idea to post a final time! I lost 4 pounds in November and worked out 15 times, with asthma and bronchitis. On the last day of the month, I ran some 5+ miles (?) and Queen Julie graciously granted me credit for the remaining 2 days so: September, October, and November ALL MET! Betty and Kat: Yes, there is SO much to be grateful for! You are both amazing! Bluehill: Please keep writing. We need to hear your thoughts. You have had an amazing weight-loss and exercise record, but also a keen insight into the psychological issues we all face. Roberta: The asthma is so crippling. Hopefully, that will also improve with weight-loss? That is what I am hoping for. Susan: Keep it up!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: Eficka: I hope you are getting better and ready to join us soon! Heather: Where are you?? Are you still walking the mall? Sounds good to me...shopping!! Fiona: What's up? ANY OTHERS FROM APRIL-----COME ON AND JOIN THE FUN! IT REALLY WORKS!
-
Okay, I went all out tonight. I ran for 90 minutes up and down the hills in my neighborhood (not sure how far). Families here are really into decorating for the holidays, so there was a terrific light show to keep me entertained! Kept thinking how lucky I am to be able to: 1. run 2. at night 3. in a safe area 4. in November 5. in a t-shirt!
-
You can't go wrong with Ortiz! I'd choose him again.
-
HA HA HA HA HA!! :laugh :laugh :laugh :laugh :laugh :laugh :laugh :laugh :laugh I'M TOTALLY GOING FOR IT!!!

Betty: La Jolla is beautiful. My relatives live there. Stay warm up in the NW with the record rainfall! Julie: Do you get jet lag? If you didn't get your water in, you might be dehydrated AND be suffering. I'm impressed you worked out in the MORNING! I'm still :notagree - y! WTG everybody who completed the challenge (pretty much everyone EXCEPT me)!! But I can still run faster
-
Don't worry too much, Julie. Schedule time with your trainer and those endorphins will kick in and give you all the motivation you need! Your life sounds very hectic and stressed right now; it is vitally important that you get your exercise time in. Eat lunch over your work and get to the gym!!! We have a 10K to complete! Thanksgiving was a total success for me, but then I fell apart the day after. For some reason, I started eating pizza, cookies and leftovers. Strangely, nothing got stuck and I never felt full. It made me realize that I needed to re-focus, appreciate the band, and not run from success. Two days of protein shakes and six miles later, my head (and cravings) are back on "track.":) Get fierce! Everything will work out, just make sure that YOU do!!!
-
Your story and experience sounds completely like mine! I don't think I put out any kind of "sexy" vibe, yet suddenly, the doors are opened for me, and the looks of longing are shocking me. Men aren't pigs, they are just wired to be interested. Just smile sweetly and go on your way. It is worse to be ignored. As far as the sabotage goes, haven't we all derailed our best weight-loss plans in the past? Why would this be different? Even with the band, I need to focus on my goals and not let self-defeating behaviors creep into my life. I bet that your six pounds will be gone in 1-2 days!

Dear Bluehill: I am SO sorry that you are battling depression. It happens to most of us at some point. I hope you can find something that helps! Come on and post anyway. We are all in this together. I know that sounds cliche, but we bandster buddies understand the struggles with weight and other maladies, like depression that often strike. I read once that the propensity for depression and eating disorders are located on the same gene. And KAT: The heartache you have seen this week is the saddest of all! I am so sorry! I vote we keep the challenge the same, so we don't fall behind. It's not fun to not meet the challenge! I will be short two workouts this month. Oh well...December starts Friday!
-
Roberta: Thanks for the well wishes! I'm on the mend and hope to be good as new within the week. Susan: Congrats on LOSING over the feasting week! WTG!!

Holiday Traffic means rescheduling surgery???
Boo replied to mypov's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm SURE it is a clerical error. Call them IMMEDIATELY and let them know you WERE at the meeting (don't even mention the late part) and that you picked up your packet. Tell them you have already made all of your arrangements for surgery. Oftentimes they see people back out of elective surgeries. If someone is a no-show, they probably should give their surgery slot away. -
I'm back. That (bronchitis) cough is still harassing me, but I managed to walk yesterday and run 2 1/2 miles today. I have seven days to fit in seven workouts in order to meet this month's challenge. I'm gonna try! Did everyone enjoy their Thanksgiving? Take Care!
-
Thanks, Kat! I'm still down. Have to go to work, but then crash at home. Maybe this week I can start moving again!!! I MISS IT!! Betty, it is warm here in So. Cal. Tomorrow we will be feeling 90 degree weather! I'm in L.A., so wave when you fly over! Thanksgiving morning is usually spent biking at the beach with friends or hiking the hills with my family. Roberta, that is fantastic! It is SHOCKING when men look twice at me. (Reminds me what life was like before the weight gain). Just not used to it. And dear Julie, we will miss you! You assembled us all here and are my inspiration. I studied French for five years, but have never been. Have a wonderful time and PLEASE stretch, walk when you can, and do ankle circles. Hopefully, you are first-class and can really stretch out. Drink lots of water!!! Why is it that flying east (long distance) is harder than flying west??
