Honey, it's in pesos! It's really yummy and not expensive! Don't worry! You can call the desk and ask them to convert the prices into U.S. dollars for you. Good luck!

BLUEhill: Are you okay? Sorry about your accident!

Getting sick, what to do my surgery is this Friday
Boo replied to tilde30's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I started getting sick two days prior to my surgery and panicked! Do EVERYTHING you can to take it easy! Go to bed, drink water, take an antihistamine (if you have allergies), steam in the shower, take the vitamins, etc. I think the excitement of the surgery will overcome this threat! I felt great on surgery day. -
Whoa, Betty, I just totally missed your post about your friend. I'm so sorry! Life is precious and can change in an instant with no warning. I hope we can all keep improving the quality of our lives and approach each day with gratitude. Love and prayers! Goodbye, January 2007!

This is what I did today for my workout...danced for over an hour! I was HOPING the scale would move for the last day of the month, but no, it went up a pound! So that leaves me where I started! Zippo loss this month. Hey, I'll TAKE it! I didn't gain!!! Last year at this time I was terrified of blowing up. Now I'm just chillin' for a bit until my body gets the message. Eviction notices are being served! April is on its way and I really want to make more progress before then! Come on, February!! Bring it on!!
-
Hey, BOOHILL: Thanks for the peptalk! I needed that; we are all winners! Betty: Those are very wise words. At this point, I'm not going to set a specific number goal. I want to see how I look and feel. The more I read, the more I learn that body weight is different on the way down. I'm almost getting tired of the compliments and questions. Actually, embarrassed is a more accurate description. My answer is always the same, "I'm working on it!" But then I'm shocked to hear people tell me to not lose anymore. I know that 20 more pounds will make a huge difference in my running and energy level. But 35 might be too much. We'll see! When I see that someone else has reached 160 on this board, I think it is really small (even at like 5'3" or so) and a tremendous accomplishment. But I can't remember that I am in the 60's. I'm still stuck at 187 in my mind.

Well, I'm in LAST place for the challenge! I'll finish tomorrow. And we even had 31 days this month...uh-oh, here comes February with 28 days! I need to hit it hard because I go to Indiana and don't envision myself running there (sorry Dawn, but there is NO way I could survive -36) That is the reason I gave up skiing!! (I find it excruciating to be cold.) I am a disgrace to my Norwegian family who taught me to ski as soon as I could walk. Now I just waterski! Yes, Bluehill, my brother is a fantastic, gutsy skiier. He is famous for several accomplishments. But to me, he's just the most caring brother. We completely support each other. And what about YOU and your 25 sessions??!! Good thoughts to you, Kat as you embark on your next mission of mercy. You are a kind-hearted soul. I hope your knee will heal so you can ride the bike with your DH. Roberta, you are an inspiration. Here I am barely meeting the challenge, and my asthma is okay right now (knock on wood!) Amourette!! Oh, PLEASE smooch and tell. That is so much fun! And we won't tell anyone! Julie, I'm glad you got new shoes. I hope you chose a really good pair! 4 miles isn't too far, but if they aren't REALLY comfortable, wear the old ones. If you double up on socks, or get a pair of the super-padded runner's socks, you will have extra cushion and they will be a bit tighter. Make sure they are laced right, too. How fun! I want to run with you!! I'm jealous. I love Bluehill's idea of us all being there cheering you on! We will. When you get nervous or want to stop, remember that all of us will be waiting to hear how you do. That helped me push ahead on the 5K I ran in November. Love to everybody!!

"I consider myself a "cheap date" for my husband now." edie Hahaha! That is funny, but true! It is amazing how much money is saved. I never really want to eat out. Yogurt is a meal. How cool is that?
-
Betty, 4 pounds to go?!!! That is so exciting! Julie, it is a brilliant idea. I'm in. This is really the only thread I check on, also. I'm lucky to have a brother that has always been proud of me! Even though he has a world of accomplishments, he makes me feel as though I inspire him. Roberta, thanks! I actually WALKED with a friend for half of my 5 miles. It was fun. And I am counting it!
-
OH! The other thing I forgot is that whenever you have knee or ankle pain when running, you are supposed to check on your shoes. It might be time to get a new pair!
-
Hi Dawn! I'm sorry about your knee, but that just happens sometimes. You did the absolute right thing to STOP. Last week I was running home on my favorite stretch (like a horse headed for home), when I felt a sudden pain. Immediately, I stopped and tried to walk it out, but it still hurt. So I walked towards home. The pain seemed intense enough for me to fear having torn something. But after walking about five minutes, I felt fine. It is really important to ice an injury during the first 24 hours. Then you can alternate ice and heat, add massage, and stretching. What did I learn from my little scare? Don't push too hard when you are feeling really good. Don't run a greater distance than logical. AND add some strength exercises. You can get those wide rubber bands and set it up so you sit in a chair and bend/flex your knee with resistance AND then afterwards, straighten with resistance. Also, riding the stationery bike is excellent therapy for your knee. It seems the modern thinking is to continue to work it, just maybe don't run on it IF IT HURTS. Knee and back pain are just plain SCARY! I don't always feel it is best for me to run two nights in a row. I change it up every other day. Can I share some great news? My brother competed in an international ski race in Italy over the weekend. He won a silver AND a bronze medal (in two different slalom events)! Three years ago he nearly died in a skiing accident, and this was his first race back, so we are all excited! My weight-loss and running stepped up his workouts. He has always been one to show me up! Greatest brother in the world, but very competitive! I used to race him, but ALWAYS wound up place.

If you check out Dr. Ortiz' patients here, you will find a vast group of happy patients. Actually, we are not just happy, but ecstatic! It was a wonderful experience and I agree that I was treated like a highly favored guest. But I DO disagree over the hospital vs. clinic advice. Dr. Ortiz' surgical clinic is modern, clean, upscale, and has a fully trained staff to take care of all needs. There is a doctor on the floor with recovering patients 24 hours a day (even through the night). I would NOT choose to be cared for in a hospital due to the risk of pneumonia, other communicable diseases, and security issues. Even the BEST plastic surgeons in Beverly Hills operate in their surgical clinics, not hospitals. I had eye surgery in a surgical clinic here in the U.S. If the knowledge, skill, equipment, and accessability is there, you will be fine. I have had INCREDIBLY HORRIBLE hospital experiences here in the states! Even in life-threatening circumstances. Dr. Ortiz is conscientious and will not let his patients down. He makes sure that all bases are covered and that you have the best care possible. Good luck, and don't be scared. Dr. Ortiz told me I could back out at any time. So I went there with that idea. As I crossed the border I wondered what I was doing. But as soon as I took ONE step into the clinic, I KNEW I was doing the right thing!!

Audree!!! That is FANTASTIC!!!!! Keep it up! This is just the beginning!

Okay, here it is... A week ago, a teenager was out walking his dog and hollered to me as I ran. I was on the total opposite side of the street in the whole black scarf, super-wide headband, etc. Well, I saw him tonight and told him I had a very important question to ask. Me: "How did you know it was me the other night?" Boy: "I'm really good at recognizing the way people walk." Me: "But I was running, in the dark, and in black!!" Boy: "You have a distinctive run. I'm near-sighted and I still knew it was you." Me: "You're making me think that I run like 'Phoebe' on 'Friends'!" Boy: "Well... it's not THAT wierd." (Smiled, nodded his head, and we both laughed) So there it is...at least I run in the dark!

I TOTALLY echo Bluehill. Because I only run every other day, it is harder for me to meet the session requirements. I do the elliptical or other activities on the other days, or I just work hard on chores, etc. Some workouts aren't cardio, so I don't count them (like walking). I will have to start counting walking or activity that I don't feel is really a workout for me. If we get sick, I don't want us to feel like we failed, either. The time commitment is not a problem. WHAT IF we have an ELITE" level? We could keep the minimum requirement the same to "pass", but then an "Elite" status or "???" for the month. Something to reach for, instead of deeming anyone a failure. I wouldn't want to see anyone drop off because they couldn't keep up. Just an idea! I'll go along with the majority. ELLIPTICAL: Last year I had this goal to read the entire Bible. So everytime I went to the gym, I brought my bible and the latest, mindless People or Us magazine. I would hop on the machine and debate which I should read first. Guess what I picked? The stupid gossip over Jessica Simpson and "Who wore it best?" won out every time. Flipping those pages would eat up at least 30 minutes. Then I felt completely materialistic and selfish and ready to fulfill my obligation and commitment to read scriptures. It worked! I easily got my hour in AND I completed my reading goal! This year I watch CNN or the cooking channel.

JULIE: I am in total AWE. It is an almost reverent feeling! You just continue to amaze everyone. There is no turning back now. You will NEVER be MO again!! That is a part of your life that is a memory. The experience will give you compassion, and will be an inspiration to others. But it is OVER! FRIENDS: Aren't we blessed to have chosen this path? I feel that my life has turned from grief and desperation to wonder and gratitude.
-
Amourette, I just can't figure out why everyone knows it is me! I must have some characteristic move. (Betty, basically, I probably run like your dog!!! "Phoebe" was a nutty character on "Friends" that ran in Central Park like a wild woman) Julie, you are just sooooo sweet! Thank you! Your words make me feel really good. Your 30 min non-stop run is fantastic. I integrate an incline to build up my stamina. Pretty soon I will go back to the track and work on speed a bit. It is just so much fun to have a leisurely jog (that would have been an oxymoron a year ago!) Remember, we have a deal to run in something together. Your run is in February! I have one in March. Then, let's set a goal! Who else is in? NO pressure, just fun!
-
Bluehill: DEFINITELY! That is awesome! NSV stands for "non-scale victory." For those of us that are scale-challenged, we have to get excited about all the other victories that come from working out and living with the band.
-
Amourette, this is gonna sound really lame, but what if you brought home dry Beans? I know it is more work to soak them and all, but you could bring home more at once. And Japan...(sigh!) Sounds lovely! Okay...so...this is my usual run. Gleefully run out the front door and up the street. Every mile I reward myself with a 30 second walk. This goes on for three to four miles. If I feel like running further, I do. If not, I turn for home. While running, I am enamored with the stars, the view of the city lights, the beautiful homes. Friends and neighbors wave and say hello. (I must have a wierd "Phoebe" kind of run, cause everyone recognizes me in the dark.) The only thing I dislike about the run is the fear of animals (raccoons, coyotes, rats, opossum??) jumping out at me! I scare them and they FREAK me out!! Well, anyway... Tonight was DIFFERENT! I did NOT want to run, but I HAVE to meet the challenge, so I figured I would just walk part of my time. After walking up the hill for one minute, I just HAD to run. There was no looking at the sky, no notice of anyone, just eyes to the pavement. Thoughts dominated the run. But guess what? I ran 2 1/4 miles non-stop, uphill! I MADE myself walk for 2 minutes and then ran again for a total of 5 miles in under an hour! So I had a serious NSV!!! :clap2: Thank you for accepting me in this group. Initially, I was afraid that I would be judged harshly for being a "lightweight." But everyone here has been supportive. We face the same issues and challenges. And now, we are ALL lightweights!!!! Woohoo! By the way, DAWN...You ARE a runner! And don't ever question that!

Oh Kat, I went from laughing to crying, reading your post. You created such a vivid scene out on the field, sliding around on the ice. What a blast! I want to try that! But then, you also had quite a scare! Thank heavens the Heimlich(?) manuever worked! I would have been terrified. Definitely, get that prescription for the spasms. Poor guy! He's been through enough. Julie, I saw Hillary speaking at that clinic on TV, so I PROBABLY SAW YOUR HEAD!!! I don't agree with all of her views, but I think she is brilliant and I am so excited that a woman is running for president! Betty, your turkey chili sounds great! The past two weeks I've been making a chicken chili that has become so popular around here that my neighbors, and kids' friends are gobbling it up, pot after pot! It's that time of year when hearty Soups are so satisfying. Maybe we can share recipes? Bluehill, thanks for the yoga quote. It is beautiful. When it comes down to it, we stand alone and our determination to succeed comes from within. We do inspire each other, but after every failure, we have to turn inward, face the fear and pain, and fight to change. I don't understand why we sabotage our successes! Every time I reach a mini-goal the elation is followed by a feeling that I am all-powerful, and then I Celebrate by eating anything I want. It has taken me three weeks to make up for the after-Christmas splurge. You have done so well, though! cheese and crackers may have given you a one day stall, but it is just a number on a scale. The big picture is that you have lost 100#!!! And you completed your exercise challenge for the month!! And this journey with the band and new life is still young.

Oh, Julie, I know this may not mean much coming from California, but there are some little things that help me stay warm. I get cold very easily and find it excruciating! 1. Cover your ears, head, neck and wrists/hands! One of the best investments I have made have been in some cashmere sets of headbands (that cover the ears) scarves and gloves. As long as those places stay warm, the rest of me is comfortable. 2, Take a long, warm shower before you run to warm-up your whole body, warm-up your muscles, and steam your sinuses and lungs. 3. Check out Patagonia catalog. I got some great lightweight pieces that REALLY keep me warm. NOW, that is all I have to offer! Dawn is a better source of help, cause I don't even own a winter coat!! (Are you laughing at me?)
-
Exactly! I second Betty! I also suffer with (allergy-induced) asthma so you have my total sympathy. There is just nothing you can do if you can't breathe! Usually we have warm January weather and early spring, so I am bracing for my yearly battle now. Hoorah for the weight-loss successes and meeting the exercise challenges! I've been in a slump this week, and I'm not sure why. It is unusual for me to get down in the dumps. My kids even asked what was wrong with me. Can sleep deprivation do that? Even after running, there has been no "rush". Thanks to this challenge, I am forcing myself to workout! Otherwise, I would be in bed or on the sofa with a remote..... Hey, not a bad idea! G'night!
-
Major GOOD LUCK!!! Your new life will be a blessing!
