    April 2019 Surgeries!

Hey everyone, thought I would check in. Had my RNY at Toronto Western hospital on April 8th, was released the next day. I seem to be doing pretty well. I'm tolerating most liquids. I've been pretty much sticking to protein smoothies, smooth cream soups, premier protein, V8, no sugar added pudding/jello/icecream. I sometimes change up the fruit or the soup but at this point I just want to get past the liquids and start to incorporate more variety so I am keeping it simple until then. On Thursday I should be able to start pureed stage for two weeks then soft foods. I don't have any pain from my surgery. I get some discomfort if I am overdoing it a little and have to go rest. It takes me all day but I end up getting about 4 cups of liquids and 80-85g protein at this point. I've been taking an electrolyte supplement as my urine is still a bit dark and I think that helps. My steri strips haven't fallen off yet. I'm getting all my vitamins in as well and doing some light walking everyday. My weight stalled a week after surgery but it seems to be moving again now. From my pre-op diet until now I've lost 25lbs in about 3-4 weeks. Sent from my LM-Q910 using BariatricPal mobile app

    April 2019 Surgeries!

Had my RNY on Monday, seem to be doing ok. I didn't meet my protein goals yesterday but I think I got enough fluids in. Took all my vitamins. The calcium chews aren't great but I think I can manage. I was also able to have a small BM this morning which was a relief. I took a suppository last night and not much happened but the surgeon has me on two senokot at night since the day after surgery to continue for a month. I started my period yesterday and man is my back feeling it today. So sore! Normally I would take ibuprophen or naproxen for period related pains but I'm stuck with Tylenol which doesn't do much lol. At least my insicions aren't really painful just tender. Yesterday I managed to get down a premier protein, strained mushroom soup with 1% milk and protein powder and about 3-4 cups of water. 3. I'm just starting full liquids today so I don't have a lot of experience to give but I plan on using protein shakes, cottage cheese, yogurt and possibly trying out protein pudding. I was able to get in about 6 tablespoons of protein shake this morning before I felt really uncomfortable. I think it's gas/period pain but I didn't want to push it. I've had a few sips of water over the last 45 min and the pain seems to be subsiding. My advise would be to stick to easy proteins and try things like chicken in a week or two and see how it goes. It's almost like feeding a baby food for the first time. Doesn't always go well, try again after some time has passed. Good luck! Sent from my LM-Q910 using BariatricPal mobile app

    April 2019 Surgeries!

So I am 2 days post RNY. Pain is less, mostly just gas I think. I am up walking around every 30min to and hour, burping and finally passing gas but no BM yet. The discharge nurse told us that if we don't see a BM by Saturday to try milk of magnesia, if that doesn't work, try suppositories. Aside from that just to keep taking the senokot they prescribed. Hopefully it comes without issue by Saturday!!! Its 3pm and today I have had a cup of broth and a cup of apple juice diluted. It's taking me about 2hrs to finish a cup. I should get about 5 cups in today of the recommended 4-6 cups so I'm happy. Going to try some tea next I think. Sent from my LM-Q910 using BariatricPal mobile app

    April 2019 Surgeries!

I'm in the same boat. Was expecting mine around the day of surgery, sometimes it's a few days late or early so we shall see how surgery affects that. I'm hoping it delays it for a little bit. My periods are usually full of intense back pain and cramping. Sent from my LM-Q910 using BariatricPal mobile app

Keep at it! If surgery goes as planned there will always be choices that may temp you. I wasn't perfect during my pre op diet but I kinda knew what they were aiming for. Keeping me in ketosis to lose fat around my liver and shrink the size of it for my safety during surgery. The first week of optifast shakes I had a total of two pickles, some pickle juice, and 1 slice of ham and Swiss cheese spread out over the week. The second week of optifast I had like maybe a table spoon total of egg salad and chili that I made for my family. All of these things I knew wouldn't kick me out of ketosis. But I did make sure for the 4 days before my surgery I stuck to the guidelines 100%. I would recommend sticking to the plan as it's for your safety and if they ask you what you had to eat be honest. It's better to delay surgery than risk your life. Goodluck! Sent from my LM-Q910 using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. I'm usually low in vitamin D and that did not delay my surgery. I've also been anemic in the past but was happy to hear my pre op iron levels were great! All that meat on the keto plan I guess lol. Sent from my LM-Q910 using BariatricPal mobile app

    April 2019 Surgeries!

So I was taken off my iv sometime mid morning the day after my surgery since I'm drinking well and urinating. I was also discharged and home less than 24hrs after surgery. I'm tired and tender but most of my pain I think is gas related so I'm just drinking my water and trying to move around as much as possible. No flatulence or BM yet, just burps. It's really nice to see my little one. Missed him so much. Sent from my LM-Q910 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Introduction

I am also in Canada at Toronto Western Hospital Bariatric Program. It takes about 10-12 months give or take from referral to surgery. It's a long process as it's funded by OHIP and they need to be sure we are fully prepared for the surgery and the new lifestyle we will be living afterwards. That said, I took about 2 yrs to actually have the surgery due to life and personal things going on. I ended up having my surgery yesterday. Can't remember when I started the process but it was about 2 yrs ago. Sent from my LM-Q910 using BariatricPal mobile app

Yes, I downloaded an app for my phone to time me since my last drink. It's super helpful especially being so thirsty I just want to keep drinking or drink more often lol. Sent from my LM-Q910 using BariatricPal mobile app

    April 2019 Surgeries!

My RNY went well, little to no complicaton they said. I was horribly groggy and sore when I came to but they have been on top of pain meds. At this point it's just very tender and my back hurts which is typical for me. Drifting in and out of sleep every 30 minutes or so. Again, typical for me lol. Drinking water 15ml every 15-30 minutes. I've been burping a bit but no flatulence yet! Might be going home later this evening if the day goes well. Sent from my LM-Q910 using BariatricPal mobile app

Earphones? Chapstick is a biggie, I'm so dry mouthed it's unreal! Maybe some hand cream and a power bank for your phone if u have one. I also brought grippy slippers and my slip on sandals. Didn't end up using the grippy slippers as it's warm in here. I also brought a pillow from home for comfort. A coloring book and some crochet stuff which I haven't used yet I'm too tired and sore so I just play games and listen to music on my phone. Sent from my LM-Q910 using BariatricPal mobile app

    April 2019 Surgeries!

Me too. I'm at Toronto western hospitals bariatric program. Two weeks of optifast900 which made me lose 13 lbs before surgery. Yesterday and today I'm on clear fluids, mostly water. The next 12 to 14 days I'm on full liquids before going to puree stage for a couple more weeks then I spend the last 4-5 weeks on soft foods before transitioning to a healthy eating plan. It's a lot but well worth it for your health and longevity! It's not so bad though. I want to eat out of habit but I'm not really wanting to eat if that makes sense. Good luck!
