I'm with all of you re work place disclosure. I retired early in 2016, so I no longer have coworkers to worry about. I did have surgery (Total Knee Replacement) done in 2011 and was very open about that procedure once the date was set and everything in place through HR and my supervisor. I asked my supervisor to announce it during a weekly staff meeting. I addressed all concerns and questions afterwords.

I would never share this type of personal info on any Social Media Platform. I think too many "personal" details and info are shared this way, opening one up to opinions and comments you don't need to hear or view. Of course, then again, you are hearing from someone who has very few friends on FB, etc. I might speak about it afterwards, if a specific question is asked by someone whose business it "really" is. The others can speculate and gossip about their suspicions all they want. I won't care.

Thanks for your input. You and your nut have some very good ideas. I have tried Vega before, but didn’t like it. However, since the joint consensus is that your taste changes after surgery, it might be right up my alley post surgery! I currently use a high protein tofu and seitan as well. Again, you provided me with many really good ideas. You are fortunate to have such a supportive nut. I will be nut shopping as last week we had a rather dishartening session re my choice to proceed to surgery. I just don’t do the guilt and shame game. So, onward and upwards! again, thanks a ton!

Thank you! That was what I was wondering about. I see so many folks post that their taste totally changes or they can't tolerate some things after surgery. I really want to thank you for your input. I will take the minimalist approach and maybe try some samples as well. Having a few months to plan for my surgery has been good in some respects and not so good in others. Again, thank you very, very much.

Talk about a kick to the stomach (no pun intended). I just found out that the person I work for PT, is shopping her office out and has people coming to look at it on the 29th. I researched them, it is a business that has a full staff. So, more than likely they will not be keeping me. Ouch! This is, or maybe "was" the source of my funding for my surgery. Well, I guess it is what it is. If this is what happens so be it. You know, when one door closes... Who came up with that saying anyway?

I have been vegan for 3 yrs and have just scheduled my VGS for October 2019. Now that sounds a ways off, but I have been reading the blogs and have realized there are a lot of issues I need to address prior to surgery. My Veganism is 1. My current nutritionist doesn't like my diet, but that's her problem. So, I can see I need to research more that Tofu and fake meat. I do plan on sticking to my veganism after surgery as well. I'm glad to see your posts as I need to do some more work. Again, Thanks!

I could have scheduled much earlier than October at the Hospital in Mexico. I just had to provide the medical tests and info they required. I scheduled out to October as I am paying cash. I could still go sooner if I financed it. you can get dates much sooner than 6 mos in Mexico.

I’m self pay and am going on a short Mexican vacay. My ins sucks as far as Bariatric coverage. Contrary to popular belief, I had to jump through hoops as well, to get approved. Who knew, right? I just got approved after submitting my EKG. I am scheduled for 10/1/19 (my choice). I’m so excited! And I am excited for you. I can’t wait to hear about your experience and new life adventures!

I have scheduled my surgery to be done in Mexico on 10/1/19. I have no reservations what so ever. However, this is just me. I saw the CDC warning and NY Times followed up with an article as well and it was regarding just 1 hospital in Tijuana. Only the 1 hospital. Weigh your options and if you need to make a list. Pros and cons. No matter what you decide, you will always find proponents and opponents. It is ultimately your decision, re your health. Good luck.

I understand both issues. I have only told people that I know would be supportive. My husband. The others, well it’s NOTB (none of their business). As far as the hip surgery goes. I had total knee replacement at 55. Many said I was very young for the surgery as well. My position was: My doc wanted me to lose weight. Now just how the heck will that happen when I can’t even walk! I told the doctor it is a lifestyle issue. He agreed and that is how we approached it. Also, if you have insurance, call them. The lady I talked to pushed my authorization through as soon as the doc submitted the forms. Don’t let them put you off! I know the crippling, torturous pain of bone on bone, grinding. What really chapped my hide was when they told me walking would be the best thing for my knee! REALLY! OA, crippling pain with movement making it worse. Only a Sadist would recommend that! Good luck and go after them! Don’t take no for an answer.

I’m so sorry for this delay. At least you have. Overage through your ins. I have no coverage and am currently scheduled elsewhere for my surgery. At this time, I am wrestling with my ins over coverage for visits re my sleeve surgery. One person says they will be covered like any other visit, another says they won’t. I personally like the rep that says they will. 😏

WOW, I guess I'm glad my Ins Co doesn't pay at all! I'm not saying anything against Ins Co, however, I keep seeing these types of accounts and wonder why the Ins Co/surgeon has to start over? It would seem to me, that if the surgeon is within the network, or is a participating provider, and you were preauthorized, the only thing that would be left to do is the Dr accepting you as a new patient, a review of your records, an appt (or 2), and then scheduling surgery. So sorry for your difficulties, with your health and Ins. Hang in there and know that you are not alone. Be well my friend.

I had been seeing a Nutritionist since last November. However, she was unhappy about my thoughts on a Gastric Sleeve. And horrified that my Primary (who referred me to her) would suggest it. I parted ways with her last month. I will cozy up to the Nutritionist at BariatricPal Hospital for assistance. As far as my Primary goes, he was more than happy to refer me to their Bariatric Program. I really don't think he will be too surprised that I have chosen a surgeon in Mexico. We talked $$$$, and he quietly mentioned that I could check other programs.

Yes. I saw the CDC Travel Advisory as well. There was a NY Times article about it as well. While I am skeptical of these types of reports. After all, people leave or are infected in US hospitals frequently. My mother-in-law got a MRSA type infection which was highly contagious during/after back surgery. Talk about exposure! The only reason I became suspious was the all the medical staff dressed in Haz-Mat like suits when entering her room after diagnosis. I asked about the infection after she told me. I then complained about the risk everyone, mostly elderly visitors had been exposed to. 2 days later, they posted a small warning sign by her door and set out a pile of gowns for visitors. Yet they continued to wear the space suits! The CDC never publishes reports about individual hospitals here! I'm not saying, not to take heed, I'm just saying...….

I have just scheduled my sleeve sugery for 10/1 with BariatricPal Hospital in Mexico. I used their website to schedule. I'm so excited to get my journey started.

Geez! I'm so glad you posted this. I'm torn between 2 facilities. BariatricPals & Endo. Both have very good recommendations and highly qualified doctors and staff. One is closer & <$, the other is a tiring flight from Seattle and >$. The <$ is very inviting as the >$, I'm in constant turmoil at this point. I don't plan on having surgery until September 2019 unless I can get the $$$$ sooner. I'm so glad there is another soul out there riding the fence as well!

I'm playing the waiting game as well. Just not for the same reasons. I plan on having my sleeve done in Mexico in September (maybe sooner). I'm trying to decide between 2 different Dr's and facilities. I want to pay $ as my ins does not pay for this type of surgery. Guess they would rather pay the mountains of $$ it will take to care for me with diabetes, heart condition, stroke, etc. Make sense to you? Well, I need to get off my soap box. Anyway, some days I'm sooooo excited I can hardly stand it. Others, I'm terrified. And it's not cause I'm doing it on Mexico.
