  1. Wow, the countdown is on! I’m so excited. I just can’t weight to rid myself of this excess weight. I’m still shedding my old favorite foods one at a time. I guess it really started to become “real” when I booked my flights. I’m no longer scared, well not really. Just excited. I had a financial issue that I thought my put the kybosch on my surgery. At least for a while anyway, but that will work itself out. I am flying south, like a bird in migration on 9/30. Off to Tijuana, Bariatric Pal Hospital, Dr. Illan and his wonderful staff. And there, I will receive a wonderful gift, a tool to help me recover that smaller, healthier person trapped inside.

    Favorite Scent of Poo Pourri!

I have Holiday sets to all 3 of my adult sons one year. Talk about a “crappy” gift. We all laughed about it. Within a week all 3 called to find out where I got it at. They liked them & their friends were asking about them. Until my husband showed us all the Unicorn Gold YouTube videos. Then we had to buy those to check them out. So, one of our holiday gifts to all three families in 2018 was a package of Unicorn Gold. Yet another “crappy” gift from Mom.

    Favorite Scent of Poo Pourri!

Fluffy - Unicorn Gold was a little on the sweet smelling side. I like clean, not sweet smells around my throne. So, I stick to Poo-pourri. BTW, I just saw Poo-pourri No.2 at Ulta! come in Plum and 2 other scents. PLUS.....they carry travel sizes! When you have to "go" on the go. Ya know, we seem to be having way too much fun with this "crappy" subject. Don't ya just love it though? Lightens the mood I think. I will be trying the DIY suggested above though. The thought of having just the right scent is a great idea. However, I think I might invest in a set of on the go spritzers before I go to have my surgery.

Unicorn Gold has a much sweeter scent. Like fruit. Oh, yes...my husband bought some. Works just like Poo-pouri, just different fragrances. Who knew? The unicorn Gold video was very educational!

    Favorite Scent of Poo Pourri!

Secret Santa smells like Cinnamon and Apples. Vanilla Lavender smells very citrusy. Royal flush isn't bad, more of a muted citrus scent. So, ya like the Unicorn Gold Ads? OMG!!!!

    Favorite Scent of Poo Pourri!

I've been a fan of Poo-pouri for yrs now. My all time fave is Secret Santa and several other Holiday scents. It's hard to find other than the holidays. Right now we have Royal Flush in 1 bathroom and Lavender Vanilla in the other. They're both okay. But when the holidays come, I will stock up. I found my last batch at Costco, and I have seen them at a Bed and Bath store. Have you looked up Unicorn Gold online? Same stuff, but if you look up their ad on Youtube, it's hilarious! They are also the makers of the Squatty Potty. Oh, please check them out on Youtube!

I have seen the Gas-X strips online, however, they were insanely expensive. Also, I’m pretty careful of where I buy anything I’m using in or on my body. I’m not sure either of these places were reputable.

    Losing Hope

I’m going through a trying time as well. Last Wednesday I received some very troubling news, financial in nature. It may take all my savings for my surgery to remedy the issue. I’m self pay, and my surgery is scheduled for 10/1 so this is especially distressing. I have already purchased my airfare. I’m not sure how I feel at this time. Oh well, it is what’s, it is. Well, at least that is what I try to live by.

    should i intervene?

You did the right thing. Just an FYI, don’t assume the family doesn’t care. You may not know the whole back storyline. This may not be a new phase in this persons addiction problems. It certainly doesn’t sound like it.
  12. I would agree that some people in a person social sphere are caring. However, they can fool you to. I have always just chosen not to share. At work, and with some family members. I still remain of the mind that my health & health care are my business and no one else’s.
  13. I agree. Share the food with family, friends or coworkers. I would need to get it out of the house ASAP! I’m pre-op, and am working on that problem.

By now you are in the recovery room or in your hospital room. First, CONGRATULATIONS! And second, you rock!

I'm a big believer in the vibes between you and any health care provider. You need to find that 1 special 1 that does "you-speak". you know, actually looks at you and listens! I a very out spoken with my pcp. That way, we both know where we are at.

    should i intervene?

Yes. Please call the clinic. They can't "MAKE" him change his behavior, but they may be able to intervene in some way. Since the info started from a third party disclosure, I think I would stay away from reaching out to his family. If they accidently disclose or even alude to where they got their info from, being you are his coworker, it could become ugly at work. It could also end up including the third party coworker. I saw a situation something like this where I retired from.

    Losing Hope

Hang tough and keep coming back here for the encouragement you need to persever through all this nonsense (and nonsense it is). My husband reminds me (frequently) that sometimes I: Pole vault over mouse turds. I have little patience (born without that gene!) and think up problems and make them large before they happen. So, take a deep breath. Find a happy place in your mind. And don't give this problem or these people "Free rent in your head".

    Watching grass grow

I just started reading this thread and I have gleaned so much good info. I have been trying to get ready for my surgery on 10/1. I'm currently undergoing a serious case of pre-op doubts. I am self pay, and keeping looking at the $ sitting in savings and thinking " what am I doing? I could use this to do...". Then I think about my health. So, with this in mind, I just ordered the Workbook previously mentioned. Maybe that will keep my mind occupied for the next month.
  19. I can see why they would. But I would agree with comorbidities comment. Most, pcp's know how to submit the request to ensure approvals. I am self pay, both a blessing and a curse. However, if my insurance company wanted a history of my weight, they better pack a lunch and bring a flash light because they're going to be there a while.
  20. I’m optimistic for you. I think you are setting your goals a little low, but that’s me. I think you will exceed your goals. I don’t think I’m as large as I am, until I walk by a mirror. Then reality sets in, and yes a little shame. Please try to remember, Shame and guilt are sports of participation. Don’t play the game. You are a beautiful butterfly, trapped in it’s cocoon. You will break out, unferal your winds and fly. Your are marvelous!

I’m having my sleeve done October 1! I’m excited to hear from another October person.

That’s exactly what I’m saying. I think our privately paid health care insurance should not exclude a privately paid for surgery such as wls. However, I guess if your policy excludes wls, then anything to do with wls would be excluded as well. Silly, I know. My original doctor was the 1 who wanted to refer me for wls. I have a work around planned between my insurance and my doctor.
  23. Why, of course you are. Welcome new friend! what's up?

OMG! I'm glad I looked into this particular subject. I'm preop and love to read all the posts as you never know when you run into that 1 nugget of info you didn't know you really wanted or needed. I also like hearing about the who the programs work in different countries. I'm self pay and will be going to Mexico to have my surgery on October 1st. Not all insurances here in the US pay for wls. There are may different policies signed by different employers. My policy insurance does not pay for wls. Even though they have a wls program and he has referred me I would still be self pay. It would cost me almost 30k out of pocket to use their program. After getting sleeved, I cannot disclose to my doctor that I have had the procedure. I will have to find innovative ways to see my doctor and to get what I need without mentioning wls. If I do, they will charge me full price for everything that happens during that visit. Then they will begin questioning every visit I have to make sure it is not remotely related to wls. Ahhhhhh, the US Health Care System at work!

    Monkfruit sweetner

I use it as well. I am preop and asked my Nutricianist about using Monk Fruit sweetener. You use it just like sugar, it's 0 on the GI just like Stevia, and according to her helps prevent insulin resistance issues. She recommended I replace my Stevia with it. I also asked the Nutricianist from Bariatric Pal Hospital about it's use after surgery and she said it would be fine. It's a shame as I grow my own Stevia plants and make my own sweetener!
