  1. I haven't been having these same issues but I have also been waiting since Nov 23 for a surgery date so I have some idea how you are feeling. My paperwork was submitted before I had medical clearance from my PCP. My PCP will not give me medical clearance until he has a surgery date and my surgeon will not give me a date until I have medical clearance. I have been calling this my Catch 22. When I saw my PCP again on Thursday he told me he would sign the clearance and he still has not. I called again today and the Office manager was not in but the office worker took the message and I also have the surgeon's record lady working on it too. At the rate this is going I probably willnot have my surgery until Feb as the surgeon only operates 8 days a month. VERY FRUSTRATING-and will COST Me more as well. All I can say is just keep on pushing them as I am doing.

    Finally!

I am so glad you finally have a surgery date. Believe me I know how frustrating and the up in the air feeling you get when you have to wait sooo long for a date. You also have a great start with the weight you were able to lose. What type of surgery are you going to have? I have a feeling I also will be having my surgery in Feb instead of Dec or Jan like I originally thought. If you are getting the sleeve there is a Jan -Feb surgery thread on these boards. if your interested in joining here is the url. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/357095-january-or-february-2016-sleevers/

    GoFundMe accounts?

I had a similar account and I got a whooping $25.00. Proud2BMe is correct. Unless you are a very populur person involved in all sorts of activity clubs, get yourself broadcasted on the local evening News and have tons of friends willing to put your GoFundMe account url in their signature line you will probably not raise much.
  4. I am so glad all of you are getting your dates for surgery. You will all have them done probably before I even get my date despite that fact that my 6 months supervised diet was done Nov 23rd. My PCP and surgeon have me in a Catch 22. I was so ready for this to happen this month and now I have no idea when it will happen. I am leaving the thread for awhile until I have a date.Very discouraged and angry with both Doctors at this point. I wish you all the very best with your surgeries. When I finally get a date if it is in Jan or Feb I will be back here. Bye for now
  5. Happy Birthday!! Reflect on all the physical things you couldn't do last Birthday, that your able to do this Birthday. I know you already listed a bunch of them on a progress thread, I hope you didn't forget them already. Your not being able to eat certain foods will seem very minor in comparison to all the scale and non scale victories. Have a great Birthday!!

    Is this group still active

Hi Klolojadie and Niki I have not had my sleeve yet. I seem to be caught in a catch 22 between my surgeon and my PCP. The surgeon will not give me a date until I get medical clearance and the PCP will not give me medical clearance till he gets a date. On Thursday my surgeon gave my PCP a dummy date for the mid of Jan but I was told it wouldn't be until Feb sometime as the surgeon only operates 8 days a month. This is very disappointing to me as I finished my 6 month supervised diet on Nov 23 and I was ready to get this done like the first week of Jan. I am going to be 60 on Jan 24th and wanted the sleeve before my 60th birthday. However I guess I can't make it happen so I will try to continue to eat high Protein and low carb until I can get it done. I hope both of your surgeries went well and neither one of you had complications. KloloJadie what phase are you on, Clear Liquids? How are you feeling, any pain? Is the gas gone by now. Niki you have lost a lot for 4 months. That is great!! Are you able to feel the changes? What can you do now that you couldn't do 4 months ago? If no one else is active here we can at least support each other despite having different surgeries. Hope to hear back from you both.

My 1 MONTH Post-Op Progress Report

WOW that is great results for the 1st month. 36 pounds is a huge loss and you have had a lot of NSV as well. Many of which I also hope to achieve with the sleeve whenever my surgery date is going to be.

    Anyone's first surgery?

Wow Another wonderful idea. Thanks! I will have to ask my room mate if he will do it for me. My Doctor doesn't allow coffee or tea for 2 months after surgery. I don't know if that would include decaf tea or not. I guess I will be asking during the 4 hour workshop a week before surgery when ever that will be.

    Anyone's first surgery?

Swinging my arms around and bending side to side helped me more with the gas than the walking did. Thanks for that bit of new info. That is what I like about this site new bits of information to share. I never would have known this other movement would have helped. I just hope I will remember it when the time comes.
  10. I was thinking I would call some other Doctors in my network on Monday and see how many days they do WLS and if they had openings in Jan. Hopefully they will be nice and give me that info. If so I may ask them if I could switch. I don't know why but I thought WLS Doctors had more surgery days than 1 or 2 a week.
  11. Thanks for the replies back. I may just call a few Doctors who are more local to me. I found out yesterday that my Dr only does WLS on Thursdays and on Tuesday he operates on obese people for other problems. He was suppose to remove my gallbladder and do the sleeve surgery. Only doing surgery 8 times a month I guess he filled up all of Jan already. If other Doctors do surgery more than 8 days a month I might have a better chance to get mine done in Jan since everything is all done and I am just waiting for a surgery date with the Dr I have.
  12. I was literally in the same boat as you until tues of this week. My surgeons office called me and told me my surgery date is dec 28 and I have been jumping yhrough hoops all week to get this done. Things can happen really fast. I hope you get your date soon. Good for you.So glad you will have yours before the end of the year. I am wondering,do any of you have surgeons who operate only 2 days per week. The nurse told me mine only does WLS on Thursday and on Tuesday he does the other kinds of operations on obese people. He left for another country for the holiday on Dec 15 and will not be back until Jan 4th. He is filled up for the month of Jan. Well I guess that isn't too hard to do when you only operate 8 days out of the month. I guess that is why I have to wait 2 to 3 months after the 6th months supervised diet is done before I get my surgery. Had I known this when I started all this in June I would have gone with w different more local Dr. I only went with this one as someone I know used him and has great results. Now I think it is too late to change to a different Dr.

    Anyone's first surgery?

I am stuck in a Catch 22 with my PCP and my surgeon. So I have no idea when my surgery will be.However when I do have it it will be the first one I ever had. I also am scared about being put to sleep and what to expect as far as the pain and how I will get rid of the gas as I can't walk.
  14. Oh No have a stock pile too. However my surgery doesn't look like it is happening until Feb so I would have plenty of time to drink them now. Later after surgery I can see if I still like them by buying a 4 pack and if I do I can get more. This waiting is really getting to me. It is going to be over 8 months or more. I still do not have a surgery date despite having gotten approval and finished the supervised diet the week of Thanksgiving.

    Seminar

Destiny is so right it is a roller coaster ride for many of us. Unfortunately I am one of them as well. I have been trying since June 15 2015 to get the sleeve. I have been done with the 6 months supervised diet since before Thanksgiving, have insurance approval and clearances from all Dr's except for the PCP. The PCP wants a surgery date and the surgeon doesn't give out dates until they have PCP clearance. It is a Catch 22. So I called the surgeon today and told them they have to give me a date. So they gave me a dummy date to give to the PCP. When I asked will my surgery be close to that date I was told NO the surgeon is filled up for Jan and you will probably be in Feb. It is very frustrating and I have beating the heck out of my punching bag. It is a sit and wait game as well. Wait for referral, wait for an appointment to see the different Drs, if more testing is needed wait for that approval and then wait for the testing appointments and wait to see the Dr for the results. Unless your insurance and Dr are a heck of a lot better than mine I would not get so excited. I did and now I am so deflated and upset by what has happen. I am even thinking of changing Drs to see if another will take me soon than Feb.

    Any south Florida sleevers?

I am in Palm Beach County and the one I went to wanted to see me more than 1 time. Be prepared that you may not get your clearance in one visit. I believe it was 6 times that she wanted to see me. Finally after the 6th visit she gave me clearance. I have been at this since June 2015. Had so many darn hoops I had to jump through including a 6 month supervised diet which was finished Nov 23rd and now I am being told the surgeon has no openings until Feb. Another wait of over 6 weeks, this is the most frustrating thing I have ever had to go through.
  17. OMGosh you have been waiting for 2 years? If I may ask what were the delays? Were you on a supervised diet all that time? I think I would have been so frustrated if I had to wait 2 years. So glad to hear you have a surgery date and I certainly hope and pray there are no more delays.

    "Sleeve Horsepower"?

Oh my I am swooning all over the place. I have taken pictures and will continue to do so.

    "Sleeve Horsepower"?

200 in 10 months is awesome. Keep going strong. Hopefully you took pictures. I am going to be taking some more pictures tomorrow I hope since I lost 35 with the 6th months supervised diet.

    "Sleeve Horsepower"?

I never heard of the horsepower thinking. When I went to see the surgeon I was 352 and he tried to talk me into the Gastric bypass because of my weight but I told him NO! I once was 497 and lost 145 on my own and felt that with the 6 months supervised diet and the sleeve I would be able to lose down to 155. This past month my 6th visit when I asked the Dr what was the expected weight loss monthly. He felt he couldn't give me monthly but gave me a 6th month weight loss of 95 pounds. He felt I would get to 200 and then the rest would be skin removal. When I stated that would be 45 pounds he stated yea that is the amount of excess skin I predict you will have. I still do not have a surgery date so we shall see what happens by next Christmas. If you feel comfortable with the sleeve don't let the Dr talk you out of it. I think those of use who have BMI's over 50 have to be more strict and stick to the Protein Vegetables and keep out the other foods far longer than the thinner ones. I am so dedicated to making this work that I am willing to do just that and will have to change my mind as I am a person who enjoys variety in everything including food.

Advice, Please - Surgeon vs. NUT

VSGAnn2014 Thanks so much for sharing the calories you had eaten and what you are doing now. I haven't had my week before surgery workshop yet so maybe they will tell me more. But if they don't this is great info that I have copied and will refer back to if I don't get any more. I have a very long journey and hope I make it to my goal of 155

    Silly Rant!

Thanks for sharing about your exercise. So sorry to hear about your foot. I have had that many years ago and I know what I went through was very difficult. I hope that with the weight .loss it will be easier for you to heal. I am sure there are still some exercise you can do even if it is just sit down for now. Don't let this derail you, keep on going strong.
  23. Thanks Songsmith I have been trying for many many years to lose on my own. Mostly the Weight Watcher's and Nutrisystem programs is how I lost the first 145 pounds. The last 6 months have been the high Protein, low carbs diet the surgeon put me on for the supervised diet. I lost 35 which puts me where I am today. I hope I can stay good during the Holiday and not gain anything back. I wanted to get as close to 300 as possible but not knowing when the surgery date is I have no idea if I will make it. Cindy the class you attended sounded like something everyone should attend. I know I have a 4 hour workshop I have to attend the week before surgery but I have no idea what it will be about.
  24. My first meeting with the surgeon was June 17 2015. He supervised my 6 month diet so I saw him 5 more additional times. I last saw him Nov 23. I am going to be 60 years old in Jan and have never had a surgery in my life so they gave me every test imaginable. The WL surgeon turned in my paperwork. My PCP still hasn't give me Medical clearance and medically necessary forms. So my paperwork is not complete, I am still waiting for approval and a surgery date. I am hoping for surgery of gallbladder and sleeve sometime in January. Each insurance and Dr is different so it is difficult to know until you have talked everything over with your PCP and surgeon.
  25. Hi All On Monday I got an appointment to see my PCP on Saturday to get the medical clearance and medically necessary and another blood workup. I showed up and it turns out a staff member told me wrong the PCP was not there nor was he scheduled to be there. So I didn't get anything none as the other Dr and I have never met. So now I am rescheduled for Thursday. There seems to be a lot of roadblock in my journey to get this sleeve surgery. I was hoping to get a date before the holiday so I could enjoy it stress free. How is it that some people have gotten surgery dates yet haven't been approved yet. I don't understand that. I have to be approved first then get my surgery date. My WL surgeons submitted my forms on Nov 23 but the PCP has yet to give me the clearance. So here I sit anxiously awaiting clearance, approval and a date.
