My 600 Pound Life: 2016 Season

If I may ask, What insurance do you two have? I also have a hernia and the WLSurgeon didn't want to take it out during my Jan 26th gallbladder and sleeve surgery. He said it was because it could come back and would make my surgery take even longer. However I am wondering if he didn't want to take it out now as he see all ready I will need skin surgery too. I can't afford plastic surgery and told the Surgeon that so he told me to document all skin rashes etc. I was thinking after this sleeve surgery when there is open enrollment I might change and know which insurance would allow skin removal surgery would be very helpful. Thanks
  2. Hi Everyone It is getting too darn hot in this house again. It is over 86 inside. We need some air. I got very dizzy today and almost passed out when I stood up. I do not sweat like most folks due and that makes for a very uncomfortable feeling. My roommate shirt is soaked but my face is bright red and I have a headache. So we are heading back over to my friend's house who is in the Nursing home She has no internet. Hopefully the AC part came in and the AC people can get out here Monday to fix this AC. I enjoyed sleeping in my bed but the heat is winning out. Have a good weekend and hope to be able to be home Monday night.

My 600 Pound Life: 2016 Season

When I was 11 I was sent to a fat camp for 2 months came back home and gained what I had lost plus more. I was back to a different fat camp the following year. It was a WW camp and they taught us new ways of cooking as they held some cooking lessons. While I was in the lessons I am thinking to myself but I don't cook it is my Mom that cooks she should be here. I went home with the recipes we were given and that first month she made some of the recipes and then went right back to cooking the way she was use to. I always felt that my parents should have been offer the same classes during the parents weekend visit, but they weren't. By Christmas that year I had gained back my weight. So I agree the parents also need counseling and lessons on how to cook and eat healthier and not be enablers to their loved ones. If this had happened in 1968 I might not have gone through all my life as an obese person as I was not old enough at that age to really understand what WW camp was trying t teach us. .
  4. Thanks I appreciate the thoughts! The day of my Birthday I will be starting the 2 day clear liquids. But Saturday I will have that Birthday fling and not over do it.
  5. Yep I know. The heat down here is coming back as it was 85 inside this afternoon. We will be out of the house soon as we have a birthday party to go to at Red Lobster. I hope by the time we come back the temp will be down a bit. You have a 2 week liquid pre-op diet? Wow that is strict. My Dr said I have only 1 day of Clear Liquids starting Monday Jan 25th. However I am going to do 2 days, so it will start on Sunday my Birthday. Saturday the 23rd my roommate is throwing me a Wine and Fondue Birthday party and I want to be sure all wine and food is out of my system for Tuesday.

I watched the show too. I haven't had my surgery yet. Scheduled for Jan 26th. I would love to know how watching it post-surgery you have a different perspective of the show?

"My Diet is Better than Your Diet" -- random rambling...

Yep those 2 ladies mentioned will be the first 2 to leave. Well the Cookie, Oil lady did leave during the second showing. As for the Clean Momma the exercise in the house would be good but outside no way would I do them in a grocery store or any other store. One thing I thought was interesting was that the color blue makes you eat less and slower and the color purple helps you sleep better. I wonder if indeed those are true statements. I will watch again next week. As for WW I went to the first WW camp they had in 1968 when I was 12 years old and I got to meet Jean Nidetch the owner and founded at that time. Years later when I was 21 I was a counselor at one of their camps in Shebogan Wi at Lake Land college. The last time I attended was back about 4 years ago when they had the winning points. I hardly lost anything in the 16 weeks I was attending. When I dropped my points down on my own I started to lose big time for 3 weeks until they kicked me out. They said I wasn't following their program as I downed my points without their authorization to do so and was losing too quickly. That was the last time I went there and haven't been back since.

    Update for 2016

Wow what wonderful progress you have made and many changes include what you know do during the day. How are you liking being a stay at home Dad? Nice new goals for the new year too. I am still waiting for my surgery Jan 26th so it will be here soon.
  9. Hi Everyone Sorry I haven't been posting for the past 10 days. We (my room mate and I) had to leave our house on the 30th. We live in sunny hot Florida and when we got back from shopping on the 30th the house was 84 degrees inside. We immediately called the AC people and they came out but the AC was a frozen block of ice and they told us to turn it off and leave the house as it would be even hotter. We started packing and before we left it reached 89 inside. Fortunately we have a friend who is in a nursing home at this time and has been since June (that is another long story) and we were able to stay at her house, but she has no internet. We have come back to our home from time to time to do the laundry, wait for the repair man to come back or because the outside temps were down, but I was busy so I didn't get online much. The AC will not be fixed until possibly Monday the 11th or Tuesday. So I don't know if I will be back on line much till then. I see some of you have had your surgeries and are healing nicely. Others finally got their surgery date.I am so happy those who have been waiting a long time finally have a date. HURRAY!!! I had to wait a long time and still have 18 days to go before my surgery. I am so ready for this and have been for over 2 months. Keeping me waiting 2 month beyond my last 6 month supervised diet appt was and is very difficult especially over the 3 holidays. I will be so glad when this is over and I am on the losing side. Hope you all have a great weekend.

    Aetna ***

I have Coventry also which is now Aetna. I had a 6 month supervised diet I had to do as well as psych evaluation and various other testing. My insurance seems to take forever to approve of referrals and to approve of the surgery. I am thankful they did approve it. I tried in 2008 to get the lap band and the insurance I had at that time would not approve it. After hearing about all the revisions of lap band to sleeve I am kind of glad the previous insurance didn't approve of the surgery. My surgery date is Jan 26th and I have been approved for 1 night in the hospital.
  11. I also am in Palm Beach County and we might have the same Doctor if yours is in Jupiter. You didn't list your Doctor but I did list mine. If we have the same I believe you misunderstood. My Dr wouldn't give me a 3 month only a 6 month prediction. He stated about 90 pounds which would be about 55% of what I have to lose. He stated usually in the first 3 months you lose faster than the last 3 months of the 6 month honeymoon phrase. I have my surgery on Jan 26th so I have no data to give to you. If you have a different Doctor I think you better clarify with him what his expectations are as they sound very unhealthy and unobtainable to me. The 75 pounds lost in 3 months is a fantastic amount of weight to lose. Way beyond the amount I would expect to lose. I wouldn't worry about his expected amount. If you follow the program you were given your body will lose as it desires not what you and your Doctor desire. This is not a race but a new lifestyle.
  12. Had to leave the house the AC is broken and it is already 84 inside. I hate Florida sometimes. Hope to be back on Monday when everything AC related is opened again. Friend is in Nursing home since June so staying at her place Good luck to all my friends having surgery.

I can't tolerate heat well either. Prayers for the AC to be fixed soon! Until then, enjoy your friends home!

  13. Hi everyone. Nov 23rd was my 6th visit to the WL surgeon. I lost another 7 pounds for a total of 35 pounds down in what is really 5 months but my 6th visit. While there I asked if my PCP had turned in the medical clearance form and the medically necessary forms. He had not. The records lady told me the PCP wanted to get my cardiac clearance and my pulmonary clearance before he did the 2 above mentioned forms. My breathing test wasn't to take place until the day before Thanksgiving. My 2 day chemical stress test was scheduled for Dec 2nd and 3rd. On December 7th I called my PCP to schedule an appt for the medical clearance etc. I was told the first day I could get was Saturday Dec 12 and I also needed to get updated blood work as the June blood work was no longer good- too much time had passed. I got there today and the staff was totally different and I had to pay $25.00 which I never had to pay before. When the person called me in, I was brought into a totally different room. Then he asked me loads of questions which should have been on his computer screen. When I told him I have been coming here each month for a year you have all this information and I am here for blood work and medical clearance, He asked me who my Dr was and who was doing the surgery. I swear it was like I had never been there before in my life. I was getting madder by the minute. When he asked what surgery I was having I told him and he said to me well you need to have this test and that test. I told him I had all those tests and my Dr and the surgeon have been working together for the last 6 months and that I wanted to see my Dr. He then tells me my Dr isn't there and wasn't scheduled for today. I told him that is not what the office staff told me on Monday that is why I was here today. I asked, Who is here? I was told, The Dr that supervises my Dr and that person went to see if that Dr would clear me for surgery. NO! That Dr knows anything about me and I had to come back. He told me the days my Dr would be there. So now I have to wait until Thursday so I can see my Dr and get the blood work and medical clearance. Before I left I asked to speak with the office manager who wasn't there either. She will be getting a phone call first thing Monday morning. I just thought this whole situation was unacceptable. Don't you agree? I don't know if everyone else goes through all this crap that I have had to go through. Nine visits with the Psych, 3 Catscans, EKG, 2 day stress test, breathing test, blood work up, 6 visits with the surgeon, a visit with the Nut. My papers were submitted the week of Thanksgiving. As of Dec 12th I still do not have a surgery date and have a 4 hour workshop I have to attend, additional pre-op testing, pre-op diet, etc the week before the surgery date i don't even have yet. Will this never end? I am getting so frustrated and am stressed out with all the crap going down with insurance. I just wanted to get a date scheduled in Jan so I could enjoy the Holiday. I have a feeling I will be stressing out during the holiday waiting on pins and needles for this surgery date. Everyone that started the same time I did are having their surgeries this month and some have had it already. Here I sit waiting. This insurance of mine is taking forever and so many weeks waiting for referrals for the tests and waiting for Dr appts. I would change but I am afraid that would mean I would have to start all over again and I can't do that. I need to get this surgery so I can start losing even more weight and get the surgeries I need for my hip, and back so I can walk again. Plus the surgeries for my shoulder, elbow and hand so I can use them again. Being like this at age 60 is very difficult and I have to have the surgeries to be able to live a more normal life. This surgery is not for vanity or fashion issues. I am hoping the next time I write I will have medical clearance and a date for surgery. Till next time I hope you all have a happy and healthy life and a wonderful Holiday!!
  14. So glad you were able to self pay and will be getting your surgery without jumping through all the hoops. Unfortunately being on disability I had to go the insurance route. Yesterday I finally got my date for surgery. Jan 26th. Nothing better stop this from happening now that I have a date. Good luck with yours whenever it is.
  15. Glad to hear your throat is better. Almost 8 weeks is an awful long time to be in such pain with your throat, of all things. I gather the incisions were not as painful as the throat. Congratulations on the 40 pounds lost as well. I finally got my surgery date of Jan 26th and hope and pray I do not have the same throat issues. However I will continue to follow your thread, just in case I do. Keep going strong and you will make it to goal.

    Pickles

You might be interested in reading this thread to find your answer. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/355485-pickle-joy-no-more/ I also love pickles and drink the frozen pickle juice pops but I haven't had surgery yet. Mine is scheduled for Jan 26 2016
  17. After being caught in a Catch 22 between my surgeon and my PCP I finally today got my surgery date. Jan 26 2 days after my 60th birthday. I was beginning to think I would never get the surgery. Hope everyone who had surgery today is doing good.
  18. 4:36 this afternoon I was finally told that the surgeon had finally received everything from the PCP and I have a surgery date of Jan 26th. It took a ridiculously long time for the PCP to give clearance. I hope you get your clearance soon and your stress level comes down like mine did.
  19. Hi Everyone I am back and I FINALLY have a surgery date of Jan 26th 2 days after my 60th birthday. I had to speak to the PCP Site manager and threatened that if the PCP didn't send out the medical clearance today I would be in his office tomorrow and would not leave until I got the medical clearance. Well I guess this threat worked. My 6 months was up on Nov 23rd and I have been waiting all this time for the PCP to give me the medical clearance. I can't believe all the hoops I have had to jump through and all the delays with referrals and appt being set. This is my first surgery and I never dreamed of what was involved. I see at least 2 others have the same surgery date as I do. I have only 1 day of clear liquids as I was on the 6 months supervised diet. My copay is reasonable but the hospital will not accept a personal check or credit card. I never heard of a hospital not accepting a credit card. I can only pay with a cashier's check. So now I have to take a cash advance (if I can't save the copay in 3 weeks) and get a cashier's check to give to them on Jan 19th when I have the 4 hour workshop. I was beginning to think I was never going to get my gallbladder out and get the sleeve. It will be 2 days late but a wonderful gift for my 60th year on this Earth.
  20. Seven days later then my last posting and I still do not have a date. The surgeon's office called today to tell me they do not have the EKG report even though that was done Nov 12th. I'd like to know why it take 6 1/2 weeks to send a medical record from one Dr to another? This is ridiculous!! I just went through another phone call session with the site manager at my PCP office too as he hasn't given me medical clearance yet either despite him saying on on Dec 17 he would. I have been on everyone's a$$ at least 2 to 3 times a week trying to get this surgery done and on top of it I also need my gallbladder taken out.
  21. Congratulations on getting your date and on Christmas no less. My surgeon's office closed down Wed and will reopen Monday. Santa didn't bring me my date maybe the New Year Baby will. I started June 16th, was done with the 6 months supervised diet in Nov and have been waiting since Dec 7th for my PCP medical clearance and a surgery date.

    Disappointed with Bariatric Pal store

Part of the problem may be due to the fact that the warehouse is moving from New York to Michigan. When I ordered my items in Oct I got them within 5 days. I am sure moving a warehouse from one state to another involves a lot and may be causing the delay.
  23. I had written you a long length post and I hit a wrong button and it disappeared. I am just going to say I speak from experience when I say please seek help. I had no idea where to go in the early 1970's to seek the help I need for the same things you expressed here. I was 21 and had lost 107 pounds through a diet program and had never had any relationships with men of any kind until after I lost my weight. The emotional turmoil and uncomfortableness got to be too much for me after a huge emotional hurt from a man. I ate myself from 170 up to 497. It destroyed my life and I know that if I had some counseling on how to deal with my new body and men I never would be suffering as I am today/ Please don't do as I have done, you have worked too hard to stop. Seek the help you need. I will be following this post and if you wish to email me privately feel free to do so. I have been in your shoes and am here for you.

    Cross Country RV Trip

Don't forget a knife, fork ,and spoon to pull apart the chickens and to eat with plus some zip lock baggies as you will have lots of left over food to package up to place in the refrigerator. Good luck on your trip and I hope all goes well.

My 1 MONTH Post-Op Progress Report

Dub What I can't get over is 1 month ago McFatster was only able to walk 50 yards and now he is walking 3 miles. That is 5,230 more yards than he use to walk. That is if I did my math right. For me who can't walk but 2 to 3 minutes walking that much more just blows my mind away. McFatster I am the female version of what you were and I can only hope and pray I can become what you are now and will be in the future. I know your wife is thrilled for you. If you don't join her on the hike she spoke about in another thread- I will come to Ky and join her.
