    Anyone's first surgery?

What is your pre-op diet like that you have to follow and for how long? Mine is 1 day of clear but I plan to do Sunday and Monday.
  3. Aren't animals amazing that they can sense when we are hurt or sick or something isn't right. I don't have any dogs but a blind coworker has a guide dog. When she came back from training with the dog the first time the dog met me I was on my scooter as she wanted to get the dog use to seeing and being around the scooter as he lead her through our big rehab center. He only had seen me when I was on the scooter for about a year as her office was in another part of the building. A couple of months ago her office got changed over to my side of the building. When I am teaching a student in the small braille classroom I leave the scooter in the hallway as that is the last room in the hall. One day Ann and Eddie came back from lunch and her office is 2 doors before the classroom. There are 2 offices before Ann's. As they walked down the hallway Eddie stopped and started to bark. Ann had no idea why until someone else came out and said my scooter was in the hallway. She thought that was odd until they told her I was not on it. Eddie didn't see me on the scooter, he saw only the scooter so he thought I as in trouble and wouldn't stop barking until Ann brought Eddie into the classroom to see me and know that I was ok. What a tail wagging and licking kissing on my hand I got from him. Once he saw I was ok he settled down in Anne's office and I went back to teaching my student.
  4. Mimisan Tuesday was the 4 hour pre-admission workshop. I found out I have to take 30 days of injections to prevent blood clotting. Today I went to get the injections as I have to give them to myself. They are going to cost me $150.00. My copay was $195.00. Monday between 3 and 5 I will get my time for surgery on Tuesday. Sometime in the afternoon as on Tuesday he starts surgery at 12:30. I was asking to be the first one so we shall see if I get that time slot. I have only one day of pre-op Clear liquids . However I am doing 2 days Sunday and Monday as Saturday is my wine and cheese fondue birthday party. I probably will not be on line again until Thursday or Friday. I hope I will be feeling a little better then and able to write all about it in my blog. Monday morning I am having pictures taken and will take measurements as well. A close friend who had the sleeve also will be doing the pictures. I took some of him after he lost about 200 pounds. He was once was 504 and now is heading toward 275. So I will put my before surgery pictures up. I already have picture of 497 403 and 453 weight loss before surgery. I all ready have lost 180 pounds still have 160 to go.

    Sitting in the hospital crying

Wow what an ordeal you went through. So glad to hear you are better and back home and losing weight at last. Take the time to heal correctly. Please don't rush back to your normal routine until your completely healed and have rested as you sure went through a lot.
  7. Sorry Folks I haven't been able to post since New Years Eve, no internet. What a crazy New Year. Went shopping New Year's Eve Day came home in the afternoon and had no AC. I know your saying AC in this weather but I do live in South Florida in a double wide mobile home. Checked a few things and started calling my AC people. I know the owner so when I couldn't reach the office I called him at home. He knows of my situation so he sent someone over within a few hours. By the time someone came it had reached 89 degrees in the house and we were packed as we had a feeling nothing would be done. We were right as the unit was completely frozen. We have a friend who is in a Nursing home so she offered us her home. She use to work for the owner of the AC place. She had no internet, so I was limited in my ability to get online. We finally moved back home Friday. Today I had my 4 hour pre-admission workshop which consisted of a weigh in since my last one in Nov. Bloodwork up, explaining the preop diet and all the prescriptions we have to get etc. I had to leave at 10 am and got back home at 4 pm. Next Tuesday this time I will have had my gallbladder removed and have started my new sleeved life.

    Any south Florida sleevers?

Hi Leile and soflgrl I was able to join when it was first started. She had a meet and greet event planned at a park and it happened to be on the day I had a community garage sale. I gather no one showed up as shortly after that planned event the meetup group was pulled. Each of the individual Doctors should have a support group available for you to go to each month. My surgery is Tuesday Jan 26th I am having a gallbladder removal and the sleeve. Today I had my pre-admission 4 hour workshop and am all set for the surgery. After surgery if there are others truly interested I could try to start one again. If you are, please send me an email. Offer some suggestions as to what you all might be interested in doing and see happen with the group.
  11. I had my Pre-Admission 4 hour workshop today. Next Tuesday this time I will have had my gallbladder and sleeve surgery. I am not sure why I was nervous but I could feel myself starting to shake as I arrived at the Doctors office and especially when we went to the hospital next door. There were three of us in the workshop. I am having my surgery on Tuesday as it is 2 procedures. The other 2 are only have the WLS. I still do not have a time but it will be Tuesday Jan 26th afternoon. The Nurse said she would try and schedule it for the first one in the afternoon as the Doctor starts surgery at 12:30. The people at the hospital were all very nice, explained everything to me and understood my special needs. I had to have blood drawn again as my last drawing was one month ago yesterday and they wanted an update. Paid my copay, got my prescriptions and my pre-op one day clear liquid diet. I didn't know until today I will have to give myself an injection each day for 30 days after the surgery. I have never had surgery before nor given myself shots, I am ok now but I hate to see how nervous I will be feeling o surgery day. I came home with a shopping bag full of paperwork I had to sign and others I need to read including a detailed followup schedule for the next 18 months. Its been 7 months in the making but it will finally be happening and I am so glad and happy and hope and pray with the additional weight loss I will be walking soon. I did start a blog in 2008 when I was denied and continued it when I started again this year. If anyone is interested in following my progress the url is in my signature.
  12. went through the Pre-admission testing today. Surgery is 7 days away- this time next week I will be on the losing bench.

Ten little sleevies sitting on the bench. One came by and said, "move over. move over". So they all moved over and one reached goal--leaving room for one more sleevie to sit on the bench ."

  13. So glad you found something that will work for you. Funny as I also was looking for unflavored today. Couldn't find it so I got Six Star vanilla Protein isolate. I haven't tried it yet but it met the surgeons requirements.

My 1 MONTH Post-Op Progress Report

I do-I do. Please tell us how you did. I bet the second month was just as good if not better than the first month.
  17. Thanks for making the video, it really helped to see how thick the batter should be. I haven't tried one yet as I don't have the matrix Protein. I think we do have some kind of chocolate protein my room mate got at Walmart. Will have to try that. I do have the powder Peanut Butter. I found that yesterday and haven't had that yet either. Am hoping those 2 would be a good combo.
  18. Your very welcome. I know what you mean about being unprepared about the possibility of answering these questions. I had very long delays in answering when she asked me. However she was not upset as she saw that by the delays these were questions I hadn't thought about either. She would give good suggestions to me also. I am following your thread and have added you as a friend so we can follow each others progress.
  19. Each Psych eval is different depending on who you have. I had a lady that does WLS evaluations and counsels anyone who has had any of the WLS. She had me come for 7 visits. She really knew about each of the surgeries and what has to be done and what to expect. We discussed everything imaginable from: 1. why I wanted to lose weight with WLS now that I am 60 and why didn't I do it before Am I doing this for fashion or for my health etc. . 2. possible complications from the surgery. 3. how I felt about following a high Protein low carb program for the rest of my life. 4. what kind of emotional support would I have as I have no family. 5. how was I going to handle stress now that I couldn't eat like I use to I told her exercise which lead to what kind as I can't stand. 6. possible other addictions that might crop up 7. how am I going to feel about all the excess skin I will have that I can't afford to have removed. After the 7th visit she finally wrote my evaluation. She also offered additional counseling to me after surgery should I need it. My surgery isn't until Jan 26th. Once I recover I will probably see her on a regular basis, if I am not finding enough support in the support groups and online here at BP. You are right about all the delays in getting appointments. I had to wait as long as 6 weeks for some of mine. But then I had a 6 months supervised diet I had to follow. I started my process June 15 2015 and finally 7 months later I am having surgery. I hope your process is much easier and doesn't take as long as mine did. There were days I was so stressed out that I am very thankful my Psych lady suggested the punching bag I have on the front of my bedroom door. It really helped to see the heads of some of these Doctors on that bag and beat the crap out of them. LOL Good Luck.
  20. Happy Belated Birthday!!! I just saw this posting today. Thanks for writing it. It is really great to see someone in their 60's posting about how wonderful their life has been seen surgery. I will be turning 60 on Jan 24th, my surgery is on Jan 26th. I am so looking forward to celebrating my next birthday as a thin person who is able to do all the things I haven't been able to do since I was 34. Wish me luck!
  21. I haven't had my surgery yet, but came upon this posting and these Protein cakes sound wonderful. Thanks so much for posting them. However I have a question How many months out from your surgeries were you when you started eating these? Also my Dr tells me no snacking is allowed yet I am reading (maybe not in this post but others) that most folks can't get enough protein without snacking. Are you all doing a lot of snacking or is this a meal for you?

    March 1st Scheduled

So sorry to hear your surgery has been postphoned. I also had some trouble with my PCP not giving me the medical clearance because the PCP didn't have a surgery date. The surgeon didn't want to give me a date until we had PCP clearance. I finally told the surgeon you have to give the PCP a date otherwise this surgery is not going to happen. He finally did give the PCP a date. However he still hadn't given me clearance. I just kept after him and got the office manager involved and on Dec 31st I finally got my date. Keep doing what your doing and come March 1st you have lost even more weight and will have a better recovery. I wonder why I no longer saw your posting in the Jan threads.
  23. I think walking girl is four! You,me, Mimisan and Walking Girl. However I am on so many threads I may be confused as I haven't seen Mimisan posting in quite a while. I don't even remember if she is a part of this thread or not. But I thought her surgery date was also Jan 26th.
  24. A lot of folks say after the 3rd day it gets easier. Your almost to day three hang in there you will make it.
  25. Congratulations on Day 1 Keep going strong. Remember the reason why your doing this when you encounter difficult times.
