    Sleevers over 300lbs?

Had my sleeve, hernia repair and gallbladder removed Tuesday at 314. My highest weight was 497 back in the 1999. 5 days post op and I am 307. If you follow the high Protein & vegs the weight will come off. I hope to be well below 300's before I return to work late Feb.

    Anesthesia...

Last thing I remember on Tuesday was being moved from the preop table to the operating table and seeing about 6 to 8 nurses doing all kinds of things in other parts of the room. I don't even remember having a mask or counting backwards. I was in there for 2 hours and in recovery for 3 according to my room mate.. The Nurse told me latter they had to give me 30mg of dialudid and that my lower number for my blood pressure dropped to 38. My room mate said he came into recovery but I have no recollection of that. First thing I remember was being wheeled into my room and thinking oh no now I have to switch beds again, however that never happened. I was pretty much out of it that first night to the point that I didn't understand why I wasn't peeing. Found out Wednesday morning I was catheters. Finally got to go home Thursday. Today is the first day I feel more like my old self. Have already lost 7 pounds since Tuesday.

    Weight loss pre surgery?

Nikki I was the first one to have surgery on Tuesday. The not being able to drink anything for over 13 hours was really getting to me but I managed to get through the time. They might have taken me earlier but they had some trouble with the EKG equipment registering and had to change the pads and the lines twice. I was very cold but they put blamkets and a heating hose under the blankets. I remember being wheeled into the operating room at 1 pm. Saw all the nurses in there, must have been at least 6 to 8 of them. Then I was out. Didn't even have to count backwards. My room mate was able to keep track of my where abouts with a display the hospital has set up for each patient. He told me surgery was 2 hours as I had the diseased gallbladder removed, hernia repaired and the sleeve. My roommate told me I was in recovery for 3 hours and that at one point he came into recovery to see me. I had no recollection of any of that. I was in a lot of pain and had 30 mg of Dilaudid in the recovery room. At one point the lower number on my blood pressure read 38. I had a lot of pain under my left breast and in my left shoulder. I was very nauseous and had a lot of dry heaving. I also had a urine catheter in me which I didn't know until Wednesday morning when they took it out. Within an hour of that coming out I had to use the bathroom. My legs had compression stocking, yellow canvas wraps that had a pressure hose attached and also nonskid slippers. I hate anything on my toes and when they got me up they rolled back the toe part of the compression stockings. They had to help me out of bed as I have mobility issues. I use my rollator to get to the toilet. Once down I didn't have enough strength to get back up so a PT person came with a shoulder belt ad three people lifted me up. They helped me back to bed. The Dr came in and said I was ready for home. The nurses and I disagreed and I stayed another day. Was not able to drink anything but Water on Tuesday. Wednesday evening I was still getting the strong meds and was able to keep down some Jello for dinner. Early Thursday they switched me to an IV of liquid Tylenol. At one point during the early morning I again had to have help to get to the bathroom but this time I was able to get up off the toilet. I couldn't eat any Soup of jello as I didn't want to be sick during the 45 minute ride home. Today Sunday is the first day that I am finally beginning to feel good again and was able to drink some Protein soup this morning and have been surfing the website. Each person experience will be different so please don't think this is how it will go for you.I had and still do not have any regrets for doing this and I have no hunger at all. I do have to take my injections so I don't get blood clots but once they showed me how to do it and I did it twice in the hospital I was good doing it. I see the Dr again on Wednesday for a follow up. Since Tuesday I have lost 7 pounds and know by the time I will be ready to return to work I wlil be under 300 pounds for the first time in maybe 30 years.

    broth

Today 5 days post op I was finally able to drink the Protein beef soup I bought from this BP store. I really like them a lot better then trying to find a powder protein to add to the Swanson soups.

I was able to keep down 2 cups of protein soup and a protein shake. It took me over 5 hours to finish the shake. Just kept sipping at it every 15 minutes or so. Also had 16 ounces of powerade zero. However this afternoon when I went to stand up from my recliner chair I had terrible pain under my back right shoulder near the bra line. and it has stayed with me all night long. It really hurts more than anything else and not knowing what it is is bothersome to me. I don't see anything and neither does my roommate but it sure hurts. I usually hold on to a railing to sit on the toilet and I can't do that with this pain. Did anyone else have this kind of back should pain?

Sometimes that kind of pain can be related to the gallbladder, Do you still have your gallbladder?

    3. Djmohr

      Djmohr

Yes. Back and shoulder pain mostly comes from the gas they pump in. It can take a couple weeks before it goes away completely.

      Glad u r feeling better!

    Gallbladder removal during surgery?

I had a diseased gallbladder so the Dr removed it and repaired a hiatal hernia and gave me the sleeve as well I was in the hospital for 2 days. Just had it done Tuesday and came home Thursday. Have been slowly recovery as I still have some pain and discomfort but I am glad he did all three in one surgery.
  7. Wednesday afternoon the PT came back and I did a short walk with the walker. I have yet to have a BM. I am finding that powerade zero is going down easier then the protein soups and shakes. After my follow up I will post the first weeks results.

OK Ladies, kinda embarrasing question for you all

I didn't shave and wasn't shaved either, and I had a catheter. I didn't even shave my legs either as I couldn't find my shaver.

    Weight loss pre surgery?

I lost 38 pounds during my 7 months supervised diet. Had my surgery this past Tuesday and came home Thursday afternoon. My 1 week follow up is Wed. I also found that checking in monthly and starting to practice the habits I need to use now really helped me as well. The Doctor just wanted to be sure that I could follow the high Protein low carb diet and never gave me an amount I had to lose. I had a difficult 3 surgeries at once I am glad I had lost the weight as I don't know how many more days I would have been in the hospital if I hadn't lost those last 38 pounds.
  10. Katladee Glad to hear your surgery went well. Mine was a bit rougher. I had 3 surgeries, the gallbladder, repair of a hernia and the sleeve. I was in recovery for over 3 hours and got 10mg of Dilaudid. Have no memory of recovery. I had such terrible pain on my left side and left shoulder. The Dr. wanted me to leave the next day but there was no way that was possible. I had a urine catheter that was removed Wednesday morning and when they took me to the bathroom I couldn't get back off the toilet I was so weak. They called for Pt who came with a belt to go around my chest and the three of them pulled me up and I used the walker to get back to the bed. At one point in time the lower number of my BP dropped down to 38. The nurse told the Doctor there was no way I would be able to go home Wed. They kept giving me Dilaudid until almost Midnight on Wed. Finally early Thursday morning they gave me liquid Tylenol. I was able to go home Thursday afternoon. Since Thursday I have been very tired, and in pain. Every swallow causes pain and I know I haven't been able to get in all the clear liquid I should. I see the surgeon on Wed for a 1 week follow up so I hope by then to be able to get my liquids and Protein Shakes in. I took 4 to 6 weeks off so I am giving myself plenty of time to recover.
  11. My gallbladder, hernia repair and sleeve was done on Tuesday the 26th. I had 3 hours in recovery and remember done of it. I had terrible pain under my left breast and it didn't ease up until Thursday. Now it come back when I try to drink Protein Soup or shakes or for no reason at all. They had me up and in the bathroom on Wednesday. I could hardly move and couldn't get off the toilet. They had to get a PT with a lift belt and three of them managed to get me back to bed. The Dr wanted me to leave Wed and I and the nurses told him no way was I able to leave. At one point my BP bottom number dropped down to 38..I am so tired and have been having trouble sleeping today. I know I had 2 more surgeries then most and keep saying give it time you will be feeling better. I have not one regretted have the surgeries and look forward to the weigh loss due to come. I hope you are all feeling better and getting through this first week. .

    Finally getting my WLS

Thanks I came home Thursday. Am still not feeling well. I can stomach a popsicle but soup, and protein shakes are cuasing my stomach to do the flip flop and I get the dry heaves., I am very tired but today can't seem to sleep. I did have the three procedures and I am sure that is why I am feeling so out of it. I go to the surgeon on Wednesday for a follow up.
  13. Eight years ago I tired for the lap band and was denied. Today I am finally going into surgery weighing 183 pounds less. I am having my gallbladder and a possible umbilical hernia removed and having sleeve surgery so I can lose the remaining 160 pounds. My surgery time is 12:30. Not being able to drink anything is really causing my throat to hurt. But if I can be 155 again it is all worth it. I am so tired of being this weight and hoping and praying I will be able to walk again despite the injury to my back and hips. If I can't walk again at least after the weight loss I can get additional surgery so I can walk again and enjoy all the things I use to do before the injury. Please say some prayers that all goes well and there are no complications. This is so much more then sleeve surgery, it is the 2 other surgeries as well and the start of a new life at age 60.
  14. Mine also said 4 to 6 weeks and that is what I told my boss I was taking. I only work 2 days per week and there are other teachers at our Rehabilitation Center who can teach keyboarding to my blind clients. I am the only teacher who teaches Braille but the one client I had, moved to the State run center. Everything worked out really well for me and my clients. I have nothing to rush back to and can take the time to recover. About a week before I am ready to come back my boss will contact any new clients for keyboarding and Braille and give them their starting day and time. Come 6 weeks I should be able to eat some foods and have enough strength to get through my 2 days a week. My surgery is in 3 1.2 hours. Wish me good luck. I need it as I am also having my gallbladder and possible umbilical hernia done at the same time as my sleeve surgery. That is why the Dr told me to be off 4 to 6 weeks.

    Clarification on Signatures

Is there a certain location that you saw that info. Are you referring to blogs and picture links other then on BP? I have had my blog and picture link in my signature line for a long time. I know Alex has seen it and he never said anything about it. Possibly because the blog and pictures are on this BP site and not another website. Hope Alex comes into the thread and lets us know. I would hate to be banned because I did something wrong in my signature line.
  16. Good luck sleeve sister. Wow you got a early surgery time, mine isn't until 12:30 today. The not being able to drink anything is really difficult as my throat is so dry it is hurting me. Hope we both have an easy surgery. Mine will be longer as the gallbladder is coming out and the surgeon may also have to take the umbilical hernia out if he can't work around it, in addition to getting the sleeve. Let us know how you are doing. I will be in for 1 night I hope and back into my bed Wednesday night.

    Coventry insurance

Ihave Coventry Insurance in Florida. My paperwork was turned in on Nov 23rd and they approved me on Dec 15. My surgery is tomorrow.
  19. I am to report to the hospital at 11:30 am. I am the first one for surgery of my gallbladder, sleeve and possibly an umbilical hernia as well. I am all packed, have my before surgery photos taken and am thinking of doing a will. Not that I think I will die but you never know. This is my first surgery and I am a bit nervous of the unknown. However everything I have read on line for the past 8 years has shown me that this is the right thing for me to do. Over many many years I have lost 180 pounds on my own and the lost 160 do not want to leave my body. After tomorrow I will be seeing the numbers go down again and I am thrilled to finally be able to have this much needed surgery that was denied me in 2008 when I first joined the site. Please say pray and give good thoughts to all involved that there are no complications and I am back home Wednesday.
  20. I am to show up at the hospital for my sleeve, gallbladder and possible umbilical hernia operation Tomorrow Tuesday Jan 26th at 11:30. 2 days after my 60th birthday. I can't think of a better way to start my 60th year on this planet. Just think next Birthday I will be thinner and hopefully able to walk. Please say some prayers and wish me Good Luck.

  21. I just got the call Tomorrow Tuesday Jan 26th at 11:30 I am to go to the hospital. Have been on 2 days of clear liquids. Had pictures taken today. This has been a long journey as I had been trying for many years to lose weight on my own and when I first saw the surgeon I had all ready lost 145 pounds. He put me on a 6 month supervised diet as was requested by my insurance. So from June until today I lost another 36 pounds. Now the remaining 162 will come off with the tool of having the sleeve.
