    2 month mark & down 50 lbs!

WOW! 50 pounds down in 2 months that is fantastic. Has that been since your surgery day? If I may ask, about how many ounces are you able to eat at one time? I am 6 weeks out and suffering with pain every time I eat. Some times I am able to only eat 1 1/2 to 2 ounces other times I can get about 1/2 cup down depending on what the food is.
  2. For those taking the Milk of Magnesia + Dulcolax, Do you take them at the same time? I too the MOM around 4 pm yesterday and nothing. Took the Dulcolax at around 7 pm and still nothing has happened. Did manage last night to get down about a 1/2 a cup of crumbled turkey meat before the pain started.

    Regrets that got better

Unfortunately my experience is opposite of everyone else. Just thought you might want to hear a different perspective. I was having 3 surgeries diseased gallbladder removed.,hernia repair and the sleeve. I went into those surgeries so positive that I was going to heal really well and this was going to be the right thing for me and a lot easier then how I had lost the previous 180 pounds. The first 2 weeks were extremely easy. I was in the hospital 2 days and had very little pain, they kept me well medicated. When I got home my room mate was expecting me to take to the bed but I went right to the recliner. I was sewing making curtains less then 3 days later. I had no problems with drinking the Clear liquids and no problems with the full liquids. At one week out the Dr said my incisions were healing nicely and I looked wonderful. I was so happy as the first 10 days I lost 20 pounds. The 3rd through the 6th weeks have been very difficult for me. I feel very tired, emotional and don't feel as good as I did the first 2 weeks. You see at week 3 I was told to start eating an egg a day. As soon as I started to eat I had pain and now almost 6 weeks out I still have pain under the left breast. I can barely eat 1 1/2 to 2 oz of Protein at a meal. I am only suppose to eat 3 times a day. A lot of people who have been reading my postings are telling me I am not getting enough calories or food protein down. I told the Dr about the pain at the 1 month follow up and he claims that is normal and either I am eating too much or too fast. neither of which I am doing. In these past 3 1/2 weeks I have cried and never did the first 2 weeks. I am now sitting here wondering what have I done to myself? Since the first 10 days I have only lost 2 more pounds as this week at almost 6 weeks out I gained 6 pounds. I wonder if I am ever going to be able to eat more than 3 to 4 tip of the spoon bites without pain. I hate to sound so negative but I am frustrated and don't understand why 3 to 6 weeks out I am in so much pain when the first 2 went so wonderfully. I never expected to be feeling this way this far out from surgery. I hope and pray your surgery will be as easy as mine were. I also hope and pray you feel wonderful and will have no problems with eating when you get to that stage.
  4. Went right out and got MOM and Dulcolax too. Took the MOM let's see what happens! 2goldengirl I did tell the Dr when I saw him for my 1 month on Feb 26th and he said that the pain was my signal that I was full or I was eating to fast. As you see I am not a fast eater and have not been for many many years. I told him I am only able to eat 1 to 2 oz of food and taking tiny bites and eating slowly. He said that is how it should be. I asked him how big my tummy was now He said he used a 37 fr whatever that is and that it is about the size of a man's thumb all the way down. So he is well aware of all this pain.
  5. Thanks everyone for your input, that is why I love this site so much. I went for bike ride came back and saw all these replies. So let me start by saying yes I agree that my Protein and calories are low but every time I eaten food this week and for the past 3 weeks I experienced pain under my left breast. That pain is why I am still drinking a Protein shake or protein hot chocolate in the morning, even though my Dr told me to stop the liquid Protein. This morning I had Think Thin protein oatmeal and within 4 small bites I had pain. I read the paper and 15 minutes later went back to it and was able to finish the cup. My Dr says I should be done eating in 20 minutes and only eat 3 times a day. It took me about 7 minutes to eat those 4 bites, waited 15 minutes that is 22 minutes and it took another 20 minutes after that to finish the rest of the cup. If I had stopped at the 20 minute mark I would have only had the 4 bites. To eat all that food which is only 1.76 oz till you mix it with Water (not sure how much that makes) in 20 minutes I can't do it. I always was a slow eater. Questions So do I blow off his 20 minutes and just keep eating with the breaks in between?Do I keep to the 3 times a day or just blow that off too and eat more often? Next Sodium I went back and looked at the sodium here is what I found Sunday 1,395 Monday 1.611 Tuesday 1,347 Wednesday 739 Thursday 839 Friday 856 Saturday 786 Was surprised to see that some items the Dr said I should eat were so high in sodium like the turkey lunch meat, the Lentil Soups and the cheeses. The Dr's office doesn't have a dietitian on staff yet, they are trying to get one on board and as of 2 weeks ago they were still working out insurance approvals and scheduling for her. Questions what should my sodium being? Should I eat more like what Ann was eating at 6 weeks 550 to 800 65 to 88 protein? By the way Ann that was very helpful, thanks. As for the Dr here is the info on him Medical Director of the Institute for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Board Certified, General Surgery Fellow of the American College of Surgeons Member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons He is highly regarded among his peers for his technical skills, excellent outcomes and low complication rates. In addition to bariatric surgery, he performs an entire range of general surgery, including gallbladder removal, hernia repairs, heartburn surgery, colon and intestinal surgery, stomach surgery and skin cancer surgery. Sorry I do not know how to take off the blue since I copied the info above and pasted it. However to answer the other question. Yes I am having constipation problems. TMI probably!! I use to go every day before surgery and in these almost 6 weeks I can count on 1 hand how many times I went. When I do go it is very little. I tired the Citrucel twice that the Dr told me to take and it is disgusting to drink. So what do I do? To be up 6 pounds in one week is very discouraging to me. I agree I probably need to just weigh once a week and not every day. Thanks everyone for being here for me as I am on this journey alone. No family and friends I can talk to except for all of you here.
  6. Yes he told me that now that I weigh less I need to eat less protein. Which based on what I read and everyone said (on that thread that I did last week) is too low. So I tried to keep my protein above the 41 that the Dr said I should have now.
  7. I journal on MFP so the easiest way to do this is cut and paste. I hope it works. Wow it didn't keep the format oh Boy what a mess. I cleaned it up and kept just the foods I ate. I hope this helps as I can't keep gaining. And why would eating less cause me to gain. After about 1 to 1 1/2 oz of solid food I get a pain on my left side under the breast. When I tired to eat more on the 29th by eating a can of tuna for dinner I had pain for 3 hours. Any bike riders out there?

I ride an adult tricycle and was riding when I was 390 pounds. It has what is called Contour Bicycle Seat. They also have a contour gel cushions for it at Bicycle seats.com
  10. So sorry to hear of the amount of pain your in and that you have to wait so long to see the Dr. I sure hope once you do they treat that stone or stones and break them apart so you can pass it. I have never had a child or kidney stones. I have had gallbladder pain and can't imagine pain worse then that. Let us know what happens at the Dr's office. Good luck hope you come home pain free.

    Weight Loss Jobs

Even though I had my surgery only 5 weeks ago, I have been thinking for awhile when I do get to goal I would like to become a Zumba and Bokwa Instructor. Also been thinking I might start a WLS Meetup Group in my county. However someone else tried to start one and in less than a month she discontinued it. Not sure why! "The Green Sleeved Society" was something I googled but didn't find anything. Is there a link you could send me?

    9/2/15 - Can't Eat Enough

I am only 5 week post op but I completely understand what you are saying. I too take 4 or 5 bites which is maybe 1 1/2 to 2 oz and I am in pain. That pain lasts any where form 2 to 3 hours and in not very pleasant. I was hoping that this pain would stop before too much longer. Now I am concerned as you say your 6 months out and still have it. By the way you look fantastic and 80 pounds down is fantastic. Have you tried any of the Protein soups or hot chocolates they may not taste to you as bad as the shakes taste?

    Face Blindness

This topic was on 60 minutes Sunday night which I recorded and believe it or not just watched about 2 hours ago. When I saw it I said yep that is me. I could hardly recognize anyone on the show. Just took the test in the link. I was doing pretty good I thought until they got to the recognition of the 6 faces and I blew it. I also have trouble remembering peoples names. I am a teacher of elderly blind. If they are my client and once I have met them and I see them week after week I remember them. However once they are no longer my client but still come back to the center for other classes etc I sometime remember the face and forget their name. Other times I don't even remember I knew them. I am always asked other coworkers who is that person. Not so good for a teacher. That is why I love name tags, which we do not use but wish we did. My accuracy in the experiment was: 58%

    How much can you eat

Danielle I am also 5 weeks tomorrow post op with a sleeve and I am the same Like today my lunch was 1 cheese stick and 4 slices of Landofrost turkey and maybe 1/2 of the cup of yogurt. I opened a progresso can of Lentil Soup Saturday night and was only able to eat 1/2 cup Saturday and last night. I still have a whole cup waiting for me to eat tonight, if I can get it down. Like you 4 to 6 teaspoons of something and I am done. I have no desire to eat, let alone eat out in a restaurant. However I know it is important to eat to get the 60 grams of Protein, so my Breakfast is a 30 gram Protein shake. Hopefully some Weight Loss Veteran will be able to answer that question for us. The pleasure of eating is gone for me too. Wondering if it that will ever come back. I am very happy for what I have lost but feel I should be eating more by now. But then I realize my tummy is still healing.

Would you use the chat room if you knew where it was?

Yep every time I go there I am the only one. Suggestion to Alex Our BP Founder There should be a thread of a set time that each different type of WLS group can meet in chat. Say A certain night at 7 is for those who have had the sleeve. Another night for gastric bypass. Another night for those attending or wanting info about the OAC. Another night for pre surgery. A night were we can all chat regardless of pre or post or the surgery we had. Not intending to leave any WLS group out but I am sure you all get the idea.
  16. I am confused and hope the veterans can explain things better than the Dr did. However before I ask my questions I think you need some history. I weighed 352 pounds when I had my first consultation and we agreed on an ideal weight of 155. I was put on a 6 month pre-op diet which consisted of 3 meals a day and trying to get in 60 to 100 grams of Protein. I lost 37 pounds. I had my surgery Jan 26th and was told that starting at 3 weeks post-op I should be getting in a total of 60 to 80 grams of protein in 1 to 3 meals. I mainly had 2 meals where I could eat maybe 1 1/2 oz of protein food before I got a terrible pain. I was told by the surgeon the pain was my tummy telling me it was full. Therefore I was still drinking at least 2 to 3 Protein shakes and Soups. So most days I got 60 to 80 grams of protein. So that takes us to today's 1 month post op visit with the surgeon. I do not have a NUT.He has been telling me everything I should and shouldn't be eating since the consultation. I lost another 23 pounds. For a total of 60 pounds since the first consultation. The surgeon claims since the first consultation I have lost 30% of my Excess Body Weight. He says now that I am that much thinner I only need 41 grams of protein a day and need to eat 3 meals only and stop drinking so many shakes and soups. However I can have 1 shake as one of my meals. This is where I am confused as everything I have read over the last 7 months says 60 to 100 grams of protein. Questions: 1. Was your protein reduced once you started to lose weight? If not, what grams were you eating at 1 month post-op? 2. I thought eating less than 60 grams would cause problems with my muscles and hair etc? 3. How can I get the 41 grams of protein down when I physically can't eat but 1 1/2 oz of protein food at a meal? Even if I have 1 Protein Shake as a Meal Replacement that still leaves 11 grams of protein food in 2 meals. A half a cup of yogurt which is about all I can eat would only give me maybe 6 grams of protein. 4. What would you do, eat only the 41 grams of protein the Dr says to eat or would you continue to eat 60 or more? 5. Would you continue to drink more than 1 protein shake or Soup a day? I don't want to mess up and gain weight but I don't want to become sick either because I am not taking in what seems to be the higher amount of protein that others are eating. Please help me figure out what to do. Thanks everyone!
  17. Thanks Alex for your input into this topic. Your right the topic did divide into many other topics. However it is all good and was very informative. I gather from what you wrote only being 1 month post op you would stay with the 60 grams of Protein? As for changing Dr this is the one that did the 6 month pre-op diet with and the 3 surgeries and I have all ready had a 1 week and 1 month post op. I doubt now would be a good time to change to another Doctor. My 3 month post op is April 20th and hopefully by that time the Dietitian will be on staff working full time.
  18. OOPs I just read your OOPS. LOL Apparently you didn't read the original posting otherwise ou would have discovered I was trying to meet the 60 grams post op 1 month goal. The Dr told me yesterday to drop down to 41 grams of Protein now that I weigh 32% less than when I started. I track everyday at myfitnesspal. I do not have a NUT

    What foods play well together?

So the omelet I had the other day with Beans and cheese was not good for me to have based on this report. I wish they would have said more about what kind of digestive troubles. Because in this phase in my diet, that is what I am allowed to eat. "Beans with milk, eggs, cheese, yogurt, meat and fish. Although these combinations are common in some Latin American cuisines, it’s possible that their eaters’ bodies have become accustomed or adapted to these combinations. Nonetheless it’s not a reason to continue, and the unhabituated might experience digestive troubles." The other combines not to eat made sense to me.
  20. So Thursday I got only 52 grams of Protein and yesterday was even less like 29. I biked 3.05 miles on Thursday. Yesterday and today only 1.64 each day. Friday and today I feel so weak and tired. So this 2 days experiment kind of proves to me at least that I NEED that 60 grams and more of protein per day. I am sure you all agree with that statement. Barrysue and Kindle thanks for the added info and links on this subject. It made for very interesting reading.

What can I do with...Ricotta Cheese

Thanks for the info. I have been on this site for many many years and never knew this forum was even here. I guess it would have helped for me to look a the top of this thread. Nothing like NOT seeing what is directly in your face.

What can I do with...Ricotta Cheese

Thanks so much for just telling me the name of the bake. I was trying to do a search on it and couldn't find it. When you just posted the name I searched again and found it. I told myself this morning I had to find some recipes to get me through the last few days of this food phase I am in. That other bake looks good to but I have no idea what that cheese is. Does anyone know does this website have a recipe section? I haven't been able to find it.

How Many Calories One Year Out?

Thanks for posting about the friend of your and the Senior Olympics. That is so cool. I knew they had Olympics for Special Children. Had no idea they have a Senior Olympics. I will have to see what Florida offers in Senior Olympics as I am very interested in getting involved.
  24. Any idea why I can't see the 9 comments that were left on my Feb 25th "what's on your mind"? I see 3 of them and when I click on show all 9 comments nothing happens. Is that part of the website messed up?

The six you can't see were all posted by me and are all ridiculously inappropriate!!

  25. Thank You everyone for your thoughts on this issue. As I said from everything I have read 41 grams didn't seem right to me. When I questioned it the reply being that your thinner now just didn't seem right to me either. During last week's support group they introduced a new staff member a Dietitian. However they are still working out the insurance details and her schedule. She was not there today. Perhaps when I get to the 6 week stage and I can eat a bit more I will call her and ask about this 41 grams. Until then I feel like I shouldn't listen to the Dr and just continue with at least 1 shake and try for 60 to 80 grams of Protein. If I see a gain then maybe make an adjustment. Outsidematchinginside thank you and you are 100% correct. I am only at about 400 to 600 calories 57 to 80 protein depending on how many shakes I have had each day. Only physically being able to eat 1 1/2 oz of meat protein and maybe 1/8 to 1/4 cup of Beans isn't going to give me a lot of calories. I am getting more calories with the shakes and soups. perforce thanks for the protein amount info. I had no idea how it was figured. Based on what your saying if my math is correct I should be trying to get 106 grams of protein. Wow what a difference from what the surgeon is saying.
