Here is a little more info-My BMI is less than 35. Dr. Pleatman has said on this site that he does not believe that anyone should be lapbanded under 35. I have spoken to several low bmi'ers and they have had good results. I am tall so I still have a lot of weight to lose. Now having said that, I am 42 and I just see the next ten years as a struggle of increasing weight and less hope. I want to get this under control now. My kids only remember me dieting-what a memory! My daughter wants me to be able to ride with her-but I can't. I would hurt the horses. God that sounds awful. I am pretty scared about having surgery-I have never had a broken bone or a stitch. I am really nervous about the complications. GERD sucks. Erosion is scary. But I am massively depressed about having to live the rest of my life as fat. I hate shopping. Sex is uncomfortable. Travel is sweaty and exhausting. You know-it isn't so much about being vain-though I like to dress up and look nice-my life is about so much more. It is about the life activities that are tiring and sweaty and hard as a fat person.

Weight loss succes factors - our own study

Great thread-I look forward tothe responses. I think it demonstrates that people lose a lot of weight! But when the question of the % of excess weight lost, well it is not perfect. So maybe my question to myself is: Is the procedure worth it if I only lose half of my excess weight? I shall ponder this-but I bet most of you probably say "Yes-siree!" -
How many of you are "lower" bmi's who have had weight loss resistance and opted for banding. Who did your surgery? Was it a good solution for you? Thanks;)

Kick some ass (off):clap2: -
I do know exactly what you mean about the calming effect of food. It is a great drug. Once you have the fat, for many people there is a stong genetic and hormonal drive to maintain the fat.

I am afraid of productive burping. I really hate that idea. I am afraid of not being able to eat and feeling hungry. I am afraid of GERD and ruining my esophagus. I am afraid that I won't lose weight. I am afraid of obstruction. I am afraid that I will spend my family's hard earned money and not lose weight. And look pathetic.

So this is my confession-I have spent it seems much of my adult life worried about my weight. Since I have turned 40-I am now past obese. I want a band. But I am scared. I hate vomiting. Can I ever go out to dinner. Is having wine with dinner verboten. And no more carbonation-I have had a diet coke almost every day of my adult life- that will be challenging but I could cope. So here is another question-I hear that this is just a tool and you have to work it-well how do I know that I won't fail at this. Now you have to understand that I am a highly disciplined person and yet in this one are of my life I am not winning. Is the band the leg up that I need? Thank you for your answers KK
