    I messed up bad

She had the sleeve, not the bypass, so she wouldn't necessarily be sick from the candy. It's still a really bad idea though and a form of self-sabotage.

    I messed up bad

What matters most is what you do next. If you continue eating junk food, you won't lose as much as you could and you won't keep off what you do lose. You've already gone through surgery, are you going to waste it? These next few months could be a period of easy weight loss but you have to do your part.

Soft chews are like Starburst candy. Flavored, soft chewables. Gummies are, well, gummy! They have the typical rubbery texture of gummy candy.

    Splenic infarction

I'm glad you're okay but I'm wondering what caused the infarc? Was it a clot? If so, did they temporarily put you on anti-coagulants? Something had to cause the lack of blood flow to your spleen and it seems like it would be worthwhile to investigate what happened. I'd discuss it with your primary doctor maybe and ask if there is any follow up that you need.
  5. The short answer is that the surgery makes it MUCH easier to eat substantially less. And your YMMV, but in my case, the surgery has also made it easier to make better choices of what to eat. My appetite and even cravings are blunted in intensity from what they were pre-surgery and therefore easier to manage. I still have to work to maintain the loss, but I have a fighting chance to succeed whereas prior to surgery, I really didn't. Keep sharing information with her and also let her see how eager you are to take this step. As her anxiety is assuaged, I'm guessing she'll support you and be really happy with your eventual results. Hugs. 🤗

    Slow (maybe sore?) Loser

As others have said, your rate of weight loss is good. It won't take long at all for the pounds to add up. If it's any comfort, I lost relatively slowly but the good thing was, the weight loss just kept going and going. I am almost two years out and at my goal weight and I'm STILL losing very slowly (half a pound in the last month). I know it's hard to be patient, but stick with it and before long you'll be looking back at an amazing weight loss.
  7. Yes, what you're feeling is very common (I did a search on the forum and you can see several threads about it). A lot of people describe it as a cramp or a pinch. I had it as well. I would swallow and then I could count about two seconds...one one-thousand, two one-thousand... cramp! It was like a painful spasm in my tummy. My surgeon told me it was just due to my stomach not being fully healed yet and there still being a lot of internal swelling in there. I had it for quite some time but it did go away little by little. Eat slowly, take small bites, chew very thoroughly. When you drink something, take small sips, don't gulp. As you heal, that feeling should pass. Edit to add: if it doesn't go away or gets worse, be sure to check in with your surgeon. A few people have a complication called a stricture, that can cause similar feelings. But in the majority of cases, it's just part of the healing process and will clear up on its own.

    STARBUCKS

Different surgeons have different approaches to coffee-drinking. My surgeon didn't have any guidelines about regular coffee and I was served coffee with my breakfast in the hospital. So I never stopped drinking it.
  9. His question about "Why aren’t you doing that already?" is so dumb. The whole point of the surgery is that it makes it so much easier to eat drastically less. I mean, I ate about 650 calories a day for the first six months after surgery. Without surgery, that wouldn't have been doable at all.

    I’m worried and nervous

I was served coffee with my breakfast in the hospital, LOL. My surgeon never mentioned not having coffee so I never stopped drinking it (just one cup a day). I'm not much of a drinker, so alcohol wasn't an issue for me. I think I had my first drink at about 18 months out.

What to say to the psychiatrist

I'm sure different psychiatrists have different approaches to this but some of the things my evaluator was looking for included: Understanding of the risks and possible consequences of surgery Commitment to making permanent changes to how I eat Realistic expectations Any pre-existing mental illness is being treated and managed well Any pre-existing eating disorder has been addressed medically and psychologically Any other addictions have been treated and managed The presence of an adequate support network I really didn't get the feeling that she was looking for reasons to disqualify me. It was more like she was doing due diligence to make sure I was of sound mind and mentally healthy enough for the challenges of bariatric surgery. It took 30 minutes, tops. I wouldn't stress too much.

    Setting a goal weight?

I wanted a normal BMI. For my height, that meant weighing 132 or under. So I rounded down and set a goal of 130.

  14. Just as you shed water weight during your 3 days with minimal intake, your body is re-balancing its hydration level now that you are drinking again. It may bounce around for a while before it settles down and you start seeing a steady downward trend.

What Should I Pack For VSG Surgery?

I brought headphones for my phone. I always have trouble sleeping after surgery and it's calming to listen to music.
  16. Yay! Good to hear. 👍

    Gastric Sleevr Vs. Bypass

Thing is, there’s no surgery that will allow you to eat the way you used to and still maintain a weight loss. You don’t have to “diet” forever but you will need to eat mindfully. A lot of us are accustomed to eating with reckless abandon and that’s how we got big in the first place. Since I’m done losing weight, I allow myself occasional treats. Nothing is forbidden forever, but if mealtime was a TV show, some foods are part of the regular cast and some are “guest stars” I see once in a while. I don’t “diet” but I do try to make good choices about what to eat (with an indulgence thrown in here and there).

    Gastric Sleevr Vs. Bypass

My starting BMI was 47. I had the gastric sleeve done almost two years ago. I lost 100% of my excess weight and I'm now down to 125. I'm in maintenance at this point but I still eat fairly low carb and I avoid sugar and junk food. It's not impossible to lose all your excess weight with the sleeve but on average, people who have the bypass lose a bit more. For that reason, I REALLY wanted the bypass but it was medically contraindicated for me and the sleeve was my only option. I was disappointed at the time but it all worked out well.

    Not losing anything!

A few days is way too soon for the number on the scale to mean much. You still have internal swelling from surgery and water weight from IV fluids. Not to worry! 🤗

    Rant/Vent: Failure

I'm sorry you're going through a tough time right now. I agree with what the others have said. Also, I wanted to point you to a post from @BriarRose because she's been right where you are and she succeeded in re-losing the weight. I know it can seem hopeless, but she's proof it can be done!

    Stomach feels nothing

Thanks - as I get further out from surgery I'm trying to understand how post-op life will be in the long run. I'm coming up on two years in March and transitioning out of the weight loss phase. I appreciate your insight.

    Stomach feels nothing

Can I ask, did your hunger come back full force? I ask because I'm trying to figure out whether the level of appetite I have now is likely to be what I'm working with permanently or does it keep increasing? My appetite has certainly rebounded from the early days after surgery but it's still much lower than pre-surgery days. Am I gonna wake up one day with my old appetite or am I likely to continue where I am? I'm just moving into maintenance and trying to figure things out, LOL. 😂
  23. So I've recently been hired for a new job. As part of the "Welcome Kit", this company sends new employees a company T-shirt. They sent a size medium and in the past, I would have known there was NOTHING I could do with a medium T-shirt except maybe hang it up and look at it. It would have been just another one of those small indignities that you have to live with when you are bigger than the rest of the world. But today, the T-shirt fits perfectly and I'm starting off my new job without a reminder that I'm different from everyone else. How sweet it is!
  24. I hate the algorithm that all the online stores are using to recommend what size to buy. They are still recommending my size from two years ago, which obviously isn't right anymore. Some sites even go so far as to automatically change my selection to the size they think I am. And one site I shop on refuses to show me the size chart, it just tells me "Not available in your recommended size". Grrrrrrrr, stop it! I know, first world problems but I thought I'd post a rant about it, LOL. 😂

Skin/Red Face 11 days post op

I had never heard of this but someone else recently posted about having a red, inflamed face and chest. She said her bariatric team referred to it as a "Sleeve blush" and apparently it's not uncommon. I'd definitely mention it to the surgeon and see what he/she says.
