Pre-op diet—not impressed with nutritionist!
Losingit2018 replied to tuckersmom's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
Ouch. That really doesn't sound like a person that truly understands the struggles of a carb addict. There is some truth to the fact that you can't eat what you don't have available. Except for the fact that some of us will have cravings so strong that we will drive to the store lol Give her another chance before totally writing her off. Maybe you will feel better about her the next time you meet with her. BTW- Once you go through the carb/sugar withdrawals, you will quit craving them. -
Have to lose weight before surgery?
Losingit2018 replied to HealthierMe2017's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
It won't matter if you lose too much. They will go by your starting weight with the surgeon when they submit for approval. Probably most of us here have lost tons of weight only to gain it all back and then some. The surgery is a tool to help us not only take it off but to keep it off. Cutting carbs way down or even completely out help me to lose weight. If I needed quick weight loss that is what I would do. But, 11 pounds is not even 2 pounds a month to lose. Sounds fairly easy and reasonable to me. Good luck! -
Spring 2018 Sleevers??? Looking for support, surgery buddies, advice, etc.! Lol.
Losingit2018 replied to WLS4ME33's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told the same. It may just be the OPs surgeon that will only accept one up to 30 days old. -
Chewable Vitamins making me nauseous!

Have either of you tried sucking on them (like a hard candy) rather than chewing? It may be helpful. -

That is GREAT news! It is never, ever too late to get healthier and increase the quality of our lives! I am 55 and much like you, sick and tired of being sick and tired. I am hopeful that after watching my success my sister who is almost 62 will follow along right behind me. I don't have GERD but do have severe sleep apnea and a BMI of 50. I chose sleeve because I don't care for the malabsorbtion issues that could happen with RNY. Yay for us both for choosing to get healthy. -
Smoking...struggling to quit for surgery
Losingit2018 replied to vanelifejourney's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I quit smoking about 8 years ago after being a heavy smoker for 30 plus years. I did it using an ecig. It was the only thing that I tried that actually worked. I was using very minimal nicotine anyway so about 2 weeks ago I went no nicotine. You may be able to try using one with zero nicotine in it. You will still have some withdrawals from not only the nicotine but the other nasty chemicals that are in cigs. But, this truly may be your best option to quit smoking. Good luck and if I can help you further, just let me know. -
Pain pills before Surgery
Losingit2018 replied to graziellabs's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It is the fat in foods/drinks that will bring on a gallbladder attack. Stick to fat free foods and you should be ok until surgery. The gallbladder contracts to release bile when fat is eaten and needs to be broken down. -

Where did you hear that cardiac clearance is only good for a month? Curious because I just did my echo and stress tests today. Cardiac clearance will happen within the next few days. My surgery will not happen until March so the one month rule does not apply in my case. Maybe it is a requirement in your state? -
Surgery likely canceled
Losingit2018 replied to Nancy Geoghegan's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Maybe the team coordinator was not calling to cancel. Maybe just to talk to you or give you instructions? Try and wait until tomorrow when you talk to them and find out for sure what they wanted before worrying so much that you make yourself sick. None of this may be as grim as it seems. -
You will get tons of ideas here. Check out the ricotta bake. Everyone loves it. theworldaccordingtoeggface: Take Out Inspired Recipes for Post Weight Loss Surgery

Creekimp13 is exactly right. I have to do a 4 week post op fast and am not at all looking forward to it. However, I intend to do it an stick to the plan exactly. It will make my surgery much safer. My surgeon already told me that she will indeed cancel surgery if pre op diet is not followed. I am required to lose 8% of my excess weight the month before surgery. Plus, I have weekly support meetings at my surgeons office during the 4 week optifast diet. I am also the cook in my house but, I have a plan. I am going to cook meals ahead of time and freeze them. I have a foodsaver vacuum sealer that I intend to store and freeze them in. I will prepare enough to get my husband through my pre op diet and at least 1 week post op. Very important that you stick to your surgeons diet plan. Hang in there and good luck!

Want Sleeve but scared of no weight loss
Losingit2018 replied to starvinardis's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You may want to do some reading to help you make your decision. This may be a good place to start. https://www.bariatricpal.com/info/which-surgery-is-right-for-me/which_surgery_is_right_for_me_.html/ Good luck! -
So very sorry to hear of your troubles post op. Is Dr Credi a general surgeon or does he specialize in bariatric surgery? Also, are you saying that you were released from hospital after blood transfusion for unknown reason. Later returned to hospital and was diagnosed with a leak? This is very scary and I do hope that you are finally on the mend.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE POST OP--in Pain and in tears!
Losingit2018 replied to NatureLover888's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have had several surgeries myself. There is not a cold chance I would let a surgeon do surgery on me that only offers Tylenol for pain relief after major surgery. That says from the start that Dr has zero compassion for his patients. We are not talking about being medicated long term here. We are talking about a few days in the hospital recovering from having part of a major organ removed after slicing through some muscles. Tons of studies out there that prove recovery is much quicker when pain is controlled. I would run, not walk away from a Dr that advocates such nonsense. -
You may need to call your surgeon. Sounds like it could possibly be a stricture.

Did you know that the counting you do is signs of severe OCD? It runs in my family. I am very familiar with it. -
Pretty sure this is your WLS policy. Scroll down to page 6 for criteria. https://www.bcbsnc.com/assets/services/public/pdfs/medicalpolicy/surgery_for_morbid_obesity.pdf

I just went through the exact same thing. Had ecg, it checked out fine. I have family history of heart disease plus I get winded easily. I explained that I am certain it is the weight causing me to be out of breath with activity. Still, I have to do stress test and ultrasound before he clears me. I am not worried about it. I have read posts from plenty of people with heart issues that had surgery. I am glad that extra precautions are taken to keep me as safe as possible.

March 2018 -- calling all bariatricpals
Losingit2018 replied to Apple203's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Sorry to hear this, Fluffy. I hope that you are able to get it done in March with our group. If not, look at the bright side. You may actually reach goal before surgery. lol J/K but I know you must feel that way. Darn it. -
Have you tried cutting way back on carbs? Maybe even doing an Atkins type diet with little to no carbs? I feel like it will be much easier to lose weight post op when we are not so hungry. Keep in mind that the more you lose pre op, the safer surgery will be for you. I have done many Atkins type diets. The good thing about eating all protein is that you can lose weight without being hungry. That has always been key for me to be successful. It is much easier to eat the wrong foods (carbs) when you are hungry. Plus, it would be a good idea to cut way down on carbs now since you will not be eating many post op. Could help lessen severity of "keto flu" which is what most people feel with sudden carb withdrawal. Hope that helped and good luck!

I have not yet had surgery but, I have read a lot of information in the last 5 months. I have seen many, many WLS patients with regain get great results from this. You may want to give it a try before going through another surgery. https://smile.amazon.com/Day-Pouch-Test-Owners-Manual/dp/1530933595/ref=pd_sim_14_3?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=1530933595&pd_rd_r=0QZXZEX7W8NG28Q72HKP&pd_rd_w=TGZ1Z&pd_rd_wg=e47XB&psc=1&refRID=0QZXZEX7W8NG28Q72HKP Good luck!

I have not yet had surgery but, I have suffered from extremely severe constipation. If you will take the Miralax every single day it will work. I have been taking it every day for the last 6 years. I also take probiotics and digestive enzymes daily. I know first hand how painful this can be.
