    UHC approcal

I have UHC as well. My surgeon submitted my paperwork on a Tuesday afternoon about 3 PM. I was approved the following morning by 10 AM. There are most likely variables so yours may take longer but, I don't think that they take very long at all if you have met their criteria. Good luck!

    Bypass vs Sleeve

The fact that you are young leads me to believe that your surgeon may suggest the sleeve. The younger you are when you have surgery, the more possibility there is to have issues down the road from malabsorption. Not all surgeons will help you decide which is best unless one is safer than the other for any reason. My surgeon gave me facts but would not help me decide. That was up to me. I chose the sleeve for two main reasons. 1. I did not want to deal with malabsorption of vitamins and nutrients when i get older. 2. I don't like the idea that the part of the stomach is left in there with RNY. If there were ever issues such as stomach cancer, etc that part of the stomach is not accessible. Those were my personal reasons for choosing the sleeve over RNY

    Nauseous after everything

Could you contact your surgeon? Maybe at least get a script for the nausea but probably a good idea to let them know what is going on.
  4. You will take vitamins for the rest of your life after WLS. It is very important that you keep up with them to avoid problems. Stocking up would be a very good idea IMHO

    Pain...later

I had a seroma in my right incision. The surgeon told me that incision is the one that people have the most problems with because it is stretched very wide in order to removed the stomach. If you did not have a drain and have any hardness around the incision, take my advice and use moist heat. My pain was off the charts at night when I had a seroma and this is what worked. A seroma looks nasty but is not an infection.

    Pain...later

Try warm, moist heat. Use a heating pad with a moist cloth underneath on the area creating pain.

    Exhaustion

Don't overlook the thyroid suggestion. I have been exhausted for years. Been asking my PCP if it could be my thyroid after exhausting all other avenues. I was hoping that my energy levels would change after surgery. Just had my yearly physical and my PCP told me that I will likely be on thyroid meds by next year. Ticks me off that he has not been listening to me the past several years but, I am convinced that is what my problem is. I plan to see an endocronologist and be checked out asap. Good luck.

    Insurance

Do you have a copy of your plan documents? If it says no WLS coverage than there is not much you can do unless you want to self pay. There are Drs in the US that will give a good cash price but it seems that more people end up going to Mexico for self pay. The facilities and care can be top notch there and very reasonable if you do your research. Good luck to you.

    Post op

Try hard to remember that many times depression does follow surgery. Our hormones get all out of whack and can wreak havoc with our emotions. Do not let yourself climb too far down in that hole before asking your Dr for help. Depression is easier to treat when it is still fairly mild than when it reaches severe stages. There are medications that can help manage it whether you need short or long term. My Dr told me that people who are already on antidepressants pre op seem to have the best outcome with surgery. Hang in there. It will get better for you.

    1 Week Post Op-Frustrated

Nope. Search the forum for the infamous 3 week stall. Keep following your plan and it will break.

    Sore throat

I used Riccola Honey and Lemon natural throat lozenges and they worked great without numbing mouth/throat like chloraseptic would. Like the others have said it is always wise to check with your Dr first.
  12. Do yourself a HUGE favor and search reddit for "A Bra That Fits" you will be surprised to find out what your true size is. If I am able to locate the link, I will come back and post it here. https://www.reddit.com/r/ABraThatFits/wiki/beginners_guide

    Optifast Diet

I had to do 4 weeks Optifast and it was pretty tough. I will say that it did get better (much better) after the first 5 days. It is important to hang in there. This diet will help you to lose a few pounds plus shrink your liver making your surgery safer.
  14. I will echo what Creek said above and add to it that I hope you keep us posted on the outcome.
  15. Thanks for the reminder on that one. My oldest sister used to be hooked on those. I am not yet to the point that I am able to have them but, that will be a great option if I have a time where fast food is the only option.
  16. Diet Mountain Dew and sweets. I had my share of chocolate cupcakes pre op. Kicked both bad habits before surgery. I won't say that I will never eat a dessert again but, I will say never again at least until I hit goal and am in maintenance. Only then if I feel that I can control the portion.

    Getting very real

I bet that your family will be very happy to have you healthy and around much longer. So, it really was for them as well

    Please Help! Early Stall

YES! I went through exactly the same! I had only lost 7 pounds during the first two weeks after surgery then, I stopped losing. It was driving me nuts because I was still on liquids. Have no fear. You will start dropping weight if you stick to the plan. There is no way that you won't lose weight if you stick to the diet. I was super frustrated at first but, here I am at just over 4 weeks out and 32 pounds down. Hang in there and it WILL happen

    Thinking about changing surgeons...

I would make the switch. There is much to be said for a COE.Some insurance companies require that surgery be done at COE.

    Hair loss

I am just at the beginning of this journey but, I am convinced that increasing protein is the only thing that will help minimize hair loss. I researched this subject at length and this is what I have concluded. I have been getting 100 grams plus of protein since surgery. I did start taking biotin about 2 weeks pre op but it is more to strengthen hair than to stop the loss from what I understand.

    Thinking about changing surgeons...

Have you asked your current Dr how many of these procedures they have done? What their rate of complications are? Does either perform surgery at a center of excellence? The other surgeon may have more or different hoops to jump through. Another thing to think about is that many times Drs do not like to take patients from other Drs. All things to consider IMHO

    Pain control

I too am a chronic pain patient after failed back surgery. I did let my PM doc know about my surgery. He had no problem letting my surgeon manage my pain post op. It is all up to the PM Dr in the end though.

    Is this normal?

I am still learning what all of the signs and feelings are when I eat but, that does not seem at all normal to me. Probably worth a call to your surgical team to ask. Let us know what you find out.

    Day has arrived

Hoping that you are both doing well! Do not be afraid to ask for pain meds as needed. They will not always offer so speak up. Post when you are able to do so.

    Pooping is stressful!

I got mine in on Saturday. My verdict is still out on them. I used it once and wasn't sure if it helped or not. One thing that I am not crazy about is that they are bulky. According to my husband they get in the way when he uses the toilet to pee lol Still hoping that I will end up loving them and singing their praises like others here do
