Very important to follow the pre op diet exactly. It will help to shrink your liver and make your surgery safer. -
IT'S OFFICIAL VSG ON MAY 25TH!!!!! :-)
Losingit2018 replied to CESILEYRAE's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Did your surgeon put you on a specific preop diet? You may want to start eating higher protein and ditch the carbs now. Less to deal with post op. I had to do a liquid diet for 2 weeks preop. I understand that not everyone has to do that though. Good luck!!! -
how has surgery impacted your hunger?
Losingit2018 replied to Zemi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
No. I was not one of the lucky ones. I never lost my appetite like many people do. Small amounts of dense protein do fill me up. But I am hungry again an hour later. It does still take some willpower to lose the weight even with surgery. Hopefully you would be one of the lucky ones and lose your appetite at least long enough to change your eating habits. Good luck. -
HELP! 7 YR POST OP WASTING BAD LABS HOW TO RECOVER?
Losingit2018 replied to Violet P's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You are already getting great advice here. I just wanted to mention that you most likely can get groceries delivered to you in your area. It is so convenient. Especially when you are not up to shopping. Just find a local grocer that offers free delivery. You place your order online and they deliver. I will be keeping you in my thoughts. Please keep us updated. -

Revision of RNY
Losingit2018 replied to Notthe1sttime's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Have you thought about trying the pouch reset? It is said that if you go back to where you were right after surgery, start with just liquid, move on to soft food, etc, you can reset your pouch. Search on the 5 day reset ( I think that is the right wording) -
May want to check with your surgical team. I had to do optifast preop. I asked if I could add sugar free flavorings and was told no. We were not allowed to add anything to our shakes. Not sure why but it was a definite no. Post op it was/is no problem though. Btw - I Love premier strawberry shakes!. hang in there and good luck!

So sorry that you are dealing with gout. It is highly unlikely that a high protein diet or your surgery is to blame though. Obesity, sugar and metabolic syndrome are often the culprits. Here is a little info that I was able to find quickly. Hope it helps. https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/side-effects/gout

Revision of RNY

I am going to follow this as I have not yet heard of a bypass being revised. Good luck in whatever you choose. The weight loss battle is a very difficult one. -
How Many Of You Are Drinking While Eating?
Losingit2018 replied to FluffyChix's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My post above is also the reason that we see many bypassers posting about being able to drink normally after surgery. famous saying here- just because you can, doesn’t mean that you should. None of us should be drinking with meals. -

Sleevers still have pyloric valve intact by passers do not. The pyloric valve is what stops liquid from flowing straight through. -
How Many Of You Are Drinking While Eating?

I am more than a year out and no way could I drink while I eat. Makes me very sick if I forget and try to drink less than 30 minutes after eating. I know that bypass folks are able to do it with no problem. Different story for sleevers. -
I agree. I have heard that it is far too easy to trade one addiction for another. That said, I feel sure that there are plenty of people out there that can enjoy a glass of wine or a beer every now and then. Alcohol is not important to me and I may never try it. i have also heard that if you do drink, use caution. It will hit you much quicker and harder than it did before surgery.

Yep. Sounds like dumping to me. I get it from sugar or heavy fat.

I am I the same boat. I never lost my hunger either. I do feel restriction and feel full eating dense protein but, I am hungry again an hour later. This can cause grazing tendencies if we are not careful. I stopped losing for months. I recently increased my water intake significantly. I was getting the recommended minimum but, now I am constantly drinking water. It has helped with my appetite and I am starting to lose again.

Need Sleeve revision but..,
Losingit2018 replied to Shrinking_Shamrock's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I think that it All depends if it is deemed medically necessary or not. Are you having any issues like GERD? Or just feel like you would lose more with bypass? -
Sleeve revision to bypass
Losingit2018 replied to Colorchic's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
@ Beckyonthebeach it is normal to be able to drink more after bypass. Your pyloric valve is no longer in tact. Therefore the fluid is able to pass right through your pouch. -
You should not be lacking nutrients at any point in time after about 2 weeks post op. As long as you follow your surgeons plan laid out for you and keep up with water, protein and required supplements you should not have a problem at all. Your surgeon will follow up with you every 6 months at first then once a year. They will do blood work to look at your vitamin and nutrient levels. Keep up with what you are supposed to be doing and you will be fine. Not to mention that you will feel so much better once the weight starts dropping.

I just had 8 teeth removed ( for top denture) and had this same thing come up. My dentist gave me a non nsaid for pain that worked very well. You just need to let them know you are a wls patient and can’t take nsaids. They know what to give you.

See my post above. Was not able to quote in the app. Btw- I have horrible arthritis in my hands, knees and elbow. My surgeon said I could take Celebrex as long as I take ppi. I use turmeric capsules and they work awesome for inflammation. You do need to use the kind that contains bioperine ( black pepper) in order to absorb it though. Maybe the op could try it now while still pre op. Sounds crazy but it truly works! I have been using it for years now.

@jasmineinmymind I have several painful heel spurs. Just an FYI but my podiatrist does not remove them. He said they will come back and be worse than they were to start. I make sure that I wear good shoes with good arch support and it helps tremendously. He did say that many drs do remove but he does not. It made a lot of sense when he explained it to me. That was several years ago. Just wanted to toss that info out there for you.
