    1st Fill July 29 - Any Advice?

I was banded on June 17th, 08 and scheduled for my first fill on the 29th as well. I also work for a school district and wanted to get started before school begins. I lost very well the first 3 weeks post-op, stayed the same for 2 weeks and now have found I have gained about 4 lbs. back! It terrifies me. I haven't found one thing I cant eat. I also feel like eating way sooner than what I should, thus, I generally do! I am so hopeful that this first fill gets me back on track to some gradual loss. I know what they all say about 4 or 5 fills to get the restriction. "I just want it now"! Good luck on Tuesday, I will be thinking of you. Kerry:thumbup:

Preparing to get Banded in August

I was banded on June 17th,08 and am scheduled for my first fill July 29th. I lost about 25 lbs in the first 3 weeks post-op, then it just stood still for a couple of weeks and now I have gained about 4 lbs. I can't actually say you feel hunger, as I never let myself get to that point and that is my downfall. It isn't that you actually feel hunger, it's more what they call "head hunger" I think. I know I am definitley ready for some adjustment, as I can eat almost everything and way larger amounts than when I had restriction after surgery. I beleave if you stick to the 3 meals a day and get exercise when you can and don't let the head hunger get in your way, you won't really feel hunger. Believe me this is one hell of a trip we are on, but I am so glad I know I am heading in the right direction. My best wishes to you. The surgery is easy and I am sure your recovery will be as well. Just follow Dr.s directions. Your baby is adorable! Kerry in Oregon:thumbup:

    Anyone Had Their 1st Fill?

Was wondering how your fill went? I had my surgery on June 17th, and lost about 25 lbs in the first 4 weeks, but it is slowly creeping back. I feel like I can eat everything. I have my first fill on the 29th of July so it will be interesting to see if I can't get back on track. Boy, I sure hope so!

    fill diet anyone??

My doc. says nothing to eat 3 hours before fill and no ice cold liquids 1 hour prior to fill. Then after, clear liquids for 24 hours, soft liquids for 24 hrs. then introduce solids.

    anyone have surgery in Oregon?

I did some re-calculating from my last post and looks like when all is said and done, I'll have closer to $9,000.00 out-of-pocket expenses. Wow, that sounds better than the $12,000.00 I added up previously! Wish all you self payers could go to Mexico!

    anyone have surgery in Oregon?

OMG! That sounds like a lot of money. I had my surgery in Tijuana, Mexico for $7,500.00 with only added expences of airfare for $300.00 round trip. Dr. Kuri payed for all motel costs and and the hospital and facilities were excellent! All fills are included, except you have to go back there to get them. I am having my first fill on July 29th by Dr. Kelly Fitzpatrick. first fill appointment is $190.00 and thereafter additional fills are $170.00. I suppose from beginning to end with travel expenses, I'll have about $12,00.00 into it. I am located in Maupin, OR on The Deschutes River where the fly fishermen and the whitewater rafters are going NUTS this time of year!
  8. Hi There1 I to was banded in Mexico by Dr. Kuri in Tijuana on June 17th. I believe most all of the other patients that had surgery along with me were from Canada. I myself, am from a small town in Oregon, USA. I to can relate to the hunger starting to creep up, and it is VERY scary! I will be having my first fill on August 29th which seems like a year away! It was the only schedule the Dr. could fit me in. I have to travel 100 miles to Portland, OR for my fill. All of the folks I met from BC were the kindest ever and I still keep in contact with one family who were fellow bandster's on that glorious day. I must say I have had an amazing recovery thus far and wouldn't change a thing about the whole experience. Good Luck to you! Kerry
  9. Hi Huggie Bear! I was reading my posts and saw that you were going to add someone to the "1st Fill" list. I am having my first fill on August 29th. I had my surgery on June 17th, and didn't want to wait quite so long but it was the only time slot I could get. If there is a list somewhere, would you please add me to it? Thanks, Kerry
  10. I had my surgery in Tijuana Maxico by Dr. Kuri and if your BMI (body mas index) is under 45 he does not require a pre-op diet. The Kiver Shrinking Diet doesn't hurt, no matter what your weight. I was 264 lbs. at time of surgery and did not diet and was just fine with easy recovery.

    anyone have surgery in Oregon?

I believe when I wrote my original post "Is anyone getting Banded In Oregon", what I meant to say was " Is there anybody from Oregon who has gotten Banded"? I was curious if there were any support groups in Oregon.

    anyone have surgery in Oregon?

Hi PDX! Good for you on your surgery date. I will be thinking about you. I live in Maupin, Oregon and had my band surgery in tijuana, Mexico by Dr. Pedro Kuri. I also was self pay. The surgery and everything included cost $7,500.00! Of course the airfare was $300.00 round trip, but the Dr. puts you up in a 4 star motel for 2 nights and provides all your ground transportation to motel and airlines. I found it an excellent experience. The hospital was brand new with all of the latest tecnology and staff. Can't say enough good things about it. I was banded on June 17, 2008 and am having a fantastic recovery!
  13. They put stockings on you when you get to the operating area, and they come off of you the next morning after surgery before you go downstairs for a fluro. I believe during surgery they put ballon type things around your legs to keep from clotting then. You will be up walking aprox.3 hours after surgery to avoid clots and it is best to walk as often as you feel able from then on. Hope this helps. Kerry

    Where is everyone from???

Well I believe I'm the first one from Oregon! I live in Maupin, Oregon, Population 500! I was banded in Tijuana, Mexico by Dr. Pedro Kuri on June 17, 2008. To this date it has been 1 week and I have lost 11 lbs, but I did not have to do a pre-op diet. Good Luck to all! Kerry

    1 week Post Op

I found I needed some band aids to change my dressings. The hospital gave me enough for a few days, but instructions were to change them daily after showering for 10 days. I live 40 miles from the nearest store to purchase stuff, and am almost certain they wont have the quality that my Dr. gave me.

    June line up

Wow! I'm just catching up on the posts since my surgery on June 17th, and am reading some amazing things. Please know my heart goes out to those who did not receive their surgeries. You must know you are in everybody's thoughts and we are here for support. My surgery in Tijuana went perfect! I am having an amazingly easy recovery. Day after surgery traveled the Revolution Street in TJ and spent the following day traveling on the sands of the San Diego Beach. I returned home by plane on the 20th and am feeling great. Missed all the shoulder pain & gas! YIPPPPPPEEEEE! I have nothing but good things to say about the hospital and motel facilities in TJ except I wish they spoke a little better english! Since I am on day 4 of post-op diet I am ready to move to next phase of eating tomorrow, just not sure what it's going to be???? Any suggestions. I believe I stay on this next phase for 2 weeks. Oh, and by the way..... Dr. Kuri did not insist on pre-op diet if your BMI was below 45. Mine was 43 so I didn't restrict my self from any food until 12 hours prior to pre-op testing. After testing was done I hed a large Steak and Prawns meal at a wonderful restraunt before checking into hospital at 7:00 p.m. the evening prior to surgery and came out fine. I know all Dr.s are different and I was very concerned that my dr. did not require this when most USA dr.s do, but it turned out just fine if that helps anybody. To all my fellow June 17th buddies, let's share some eating suggestions o.k.? Actually any eating sugestions from anybody would be nice. "Silly Me"! Wish I could find some of the surgical bandages that the used for my incisions. They sent me home with a handful, but am running out and don't seem to find them quite like that in the stores. I have found that regular large Band Aids don't work well for me and bind. Oh well, if thaqt's all I have to complaine about then "Life Is Good"! Anxious to hear from all! Kerry:tt1:
  18. Hi Debbie, Hope all is well! I can't believe how easiely I am recovering! YEA! Kerry

  19. Hay Kathy, How are you holding up? We are almost there!!!!!! I am having a real positive attitude about all of this. I think it may have been different if I hadn't been able to read all the encouraging words in all the posts. Keep in touch. I'm thinking of you. I just got a very reassuring post from a girl who just returned from TJ who had her surgery by the same Dr. Kuri I will have and she was real possitive about the whole experience. I think I'm as prepared as I'll ever be! Kerry
  20. Hi, I am curious to know how you are doing? I just got a very reassuring e-mail from a gal who just got back from being banded in Mexico by my same Dr. Kuri, and she was VERY pleased with the whole process and expience, so that makes me feel very good. What's up with you? I'm still figuring out what I can and can't pack on that silly airplane! Kerry

  21. Congrats Jillian! Wow, it is good to hear from someone just returning from Dr. Kuri. I leave on Sunday afternoon for my journey and June 17 surgery. I am happy it was a good experience for you. I can't think of a question to ask, but I'm curious to know everything from beginning to end! When I got your mail I was just reading other folks OR expeiences, but none seemed to come from Mexico. When you feel up to it give me any hunts as to what may be helpful. Thinking of you, Kerry

    Alcohol ?

Happy Hour with my husband is going to be a HUGE issue for me, but not something I can't live with. We have been social drinkers for 30 some years now, and it has become so routine to sit and relax before dinner with converstion and a drin or beer or so. Kerry
  23. OMG! Debbie, we look a lot alike! Kerry

  24. Hi Debbie, I got your invite to be friends and am excited and honored that you sent such a request, but I couldn't figure out is there was something I needed to mark to except? Kerry
