My Dad Went To Heaven Last Night
FeliciaLevy75 replied to waikiki's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I hope you don't mind that a May bandster is in here; I saw the thread title and wanted to come in and offer my condolences. Waikiki, I am so sorry for your loss. There are so many things I can say and offer from my experience... but the truth is, none of it matters but you and how you feel. I will be praying for you and your family, sending good vibes, and hoping for the best possible outcome. You are among friends. I'll be thinking of you. -

How do you use The Daily Plate?
FeliciaLevy75 replied to Yvonne72's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Fitday.com was OK, but the search was hard to use and not very intuitive, it didn't separate what you ate at each meal, and I had to add to many things myself. I even paid to download the software. The software was much, much better than the online version, but I want something more accessible. Since the online and the software didn't sync up, I felt it was a waste. I switched to Daily Plate (through LiveStrong.com) and feel like I can see everything laid out much better. -
Daily plate says 432 calories per hour. I would do some internet research to compare notes, too.

How do you use The Daily Plate?
FeliciaLevy75 replied to Yvonne72's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Yvonne! Once you are logged in, go to My Plate. You should be on a screen that gives you a list of what you ate. (Blank, obviously if you haven't added anything.) Definitely make use of the FAQ and HELP sections where you can find them. In addition, here is a basic run through: CALORIE GOALS: For best results, fill in the information (there is a link above the food area for you to click and fill in your height, weight, and calorie goals). FOOD: There is a search box that you can use to locate foods you eat. When you do the search, be sort of vague. I suggest this, "Nectar Protein," instead of "Nectar Cappuccino Protein Drink," because you only need a few words for the site to give you lots of options. Find the items you want and click on it. You will see a button that says, "I ATE THIS." When you click on it, it will ask you when you ate it. Choose the best option for you, and it will add it to your "plate." It then takes you to your plate where you indicate how much you ate and when (what time of day). FITNESS: Under the food list you enter, there is a link for you to click and choose fitness. Keep in mind you cannot do this until you choose your calorie goals (see first step). Go through the lists, find what you did that day, tell the site how many minutes, and hit the button to enter/update. The site will calculate approximate calorie burn based on your height/weight information. -

Anyone up for a meet and greet this weekend?
FeliciaLevy75 replied to FeliciaLevy75's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ugh, plans changed for this weekend I shall remain in Vegas. I need to get out more, dammit! Anyone up for coffee, a meal, or a walking date (love to walk the air-conditioned malls in the heat; even window shopping for 3-4 miles is burning calories!)? -
Yeah! Welcome! Grats, Mary! Slow and steady!

Labor Day Weight Loss Challenge - Let's Lose Some Weight
FeliciaLevy75 replied to luvinke's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums

I know it won't last, but I have been losing pretty fast and didn't want to complete it too soon. That sounds a little funny, but I want to work harder for that goal.

I know just enough about Star Trek to be dangerously bad at ST references. My mother, on the other hand, can quote every book, movie, and TV episiode known to man and any other species. I am a recovering EverQuest junkie; it's been two years away after 7 years of play. I led a high-end guild, I was a Senior Guide (non-GM GMs), and my ex-husband and I played together to spend time together. Disgusting, now that I think back on it. But, that's what we did. My point is, I understand some of the geek mentality that goes into this. Anyway, I still visit, see, and talk to a lot of the friends I made in EQ. In speaking to one of them last night, I was telling him about this thread and he laughed; he loved it. He said to take it a step further: whether your friends are into cars, music, sci-fi, etc. He said to say you were "streamlining." It applies to so many things!

Jacqui hit the nail on the head, and I think it's being missed. This isn't about abuse... it's about (a) being honest - you aren't (or shouldn't be) here only to be told what you want to hear. That isn't support and that won't promote success. and ( halting the promotion of the very attitudes and behaviors that made us fat in the first place. Support isn't always cuddly, and it sure as hell isn't sugar-coated. True support is saying and doing what is necessary to help ensure success... and that includes the truth that so many don't want to hear. That, and, as has been pointed out: this isn't the support forum, this is the Rants and Raves. The rant/rave began talking about people who walk in here expecting the warm and fuzzies, the company for their misery. Success = hard work. If someone can't be bothered to work at this, if they think there is an easy way to do all this, if they aren't willing to try their hardest... then I have no sympathy. I won't support old habits in the new lifestyle. I may not say it to their faces... but I will be saying it in here if I so choose.

My friend Alex asked me about this.... I just said I figured it was a liquid so no problem! LOL I didn't know about the calories... not bad considering some vitamins have more!

Ha ha ha I am Two of Four in my family. I can't wait until I can wear Seven of Nine's outfit! Hmmm, how geeky is geeky? -- Throw in some D&D/Evercrack/Wow/DAoC references to increased HP or health -- Tell them the female elves love it -- Spin it Weird Science style. There has to be a way -- Call it Kaizen (Six-Sigma, Lean) implementation ... hmmm...

Absolutely, I would say there is quite a high number of people who get WLS without being honest in their assessment(s) or expectation(s). They are not invested in the process, the changes in lifestyle, and the results because they have given up all control and accountability to the band. It's too bad. For all the energy put into cheating the band (read: cheating themselves), they could experience great success if they just tried.

What do you eat at restaurants?
FeliciaLevy75 replied to dsteele130's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have.... Salads, minestrone (and similar) Soups (no pasta), fish (steamed, grilled, or boiled; request no fats/oils), chicken (same as fish, but not steamed, eww), sashimi, grilled veggies, the occasional wrap (or rather, the small portion I can eat) with mustard instead of dressing or mayo. I don't eat things made with cheese, but if it's on the side I may have a taste. Nothing fried or breaded. No breads or pastas. A great place to eat out as a bandster is a tapas restaurant. Small, small plates of food, lots of choices. -
I am so sick of being single!
FeliciaLevy75 replied to Saintluver's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Should i just settle on someone whom I don't like so much? NEVER! You'll get there when you get there. Never settle. =) In the mean time, just change pods or fishing gear. Have fun! -
Treadmill VS Elliptical
FeliciaLevy75 replied to bandster_1007's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I love the elliptical at the gym, so I bought one for the house, too! I am so happy, it's here! They're going to deliver and set up for me on Friday!! -
Hey Phoenix, It's more than just differences that you've noticed. Based on your post I wouldn't be quick to throw you into "that" group. It sounds like you have done some reading and notice differences... but you are not posting, "I need help! Make me do this the right way! Someone please take accountability out of my hands so I can keep my bad habits; if I whine some more will you please tell me what to do with every bite of ice cream and deep fried lard?" Sorry, maybe that's too harsh. We all have questions; I am sure I have asked some stupid ones. But questions and comparative analysis aside, it's the ones who think that posting their bad habits and then looking for company for their misery that piss me off. Is it hard? It sure as hell can be. Is it worth it? Exponentially more than the "pain" it causes while you get there. Good luck on the liquids, I know that's tough. sugar-free popsicles, sugar-free Jello, flavored teas, drink powders (as long as they dissolve completely; sugar-free, of course)... you probably know all these, but I am tossing 'em out there anyway. =)
