April 2019 Surgeries!
TheFlinstones replied to CajunSam's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all here’s an update and follow on post from after my walk. SW 310.2 WS 293.3 CW 279.8 GW 167.2 So the few days before my walk I started to get some heartburn with every sip I was taking and it was really painful. And feeling dizzy. That upset me greatly as I knew then I wasn’t drinking as much as I need to and just downright annoying. Each time I’d need to lay down. I have my first post op appointment with the dr and dietician tomorrow so I’m going to discuss that with them. Yay, I went for a walk for 25mins. (My knees are feeling it today, however it is more muscles that are tight making my knees hurt so I had already booked a physio appt before surgery, it is in a couple of days) And I need to do some fascia stretching - it’s painful but worth it. My surgery wounds are healing well. 3 out of five have sealed right up. So I started to put a silicone scar gel on them all, it is also bacteria inhibiting. I feel really great with the amount of weight that has gone, here’s some positive reasons so far... Feel like I can actually go for a walk now. Clothes are loose. I feel just a little more agile than I was before. I have the desire to want to do more now - a bit more positive. Standing up from seated somewhere isn’t as hard. I felt a bit nervous before my walk as I’d also been feeling dizzy the days before. Anyway, I blitzed it and it felt amazing to move and be outside. I’m hoping to keep a walk up each day, I’ll just do the same walk until I get fitter. So pats on the back to me! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 And I started to get a sore throat yesterday again, felt the same as the one I had before surgery 🙄 so I didn’t sleep well last night, only 3hours sleep. My ears are blocked so it’s all sinus swelling in my head - painful. I realise this post is possibly long and boring. But an account of how it’s been for me. I’m really looking forward to recovering more ie wounds healing internally and externally and being able to move more and not have so much heartburn, I want to see more dropping down on the scales. I guess when I’ve had to lay down from the heart burn it was making me feel very lazy, like old habits of not moving from the couch. Good luck to everyone having surgery that is still to come. You’ll be fine. Also on the off chance anyone gets a rash from the surgical tape/bandaid things. Sudocream works wonders. High in zinc. And yes it’s also a nappy rash cream. Big hugs all round to everyone, what we are doing is not easy but it’s the best thing long term. I’m excited about the future - that’s hard for me to say. Have a wonderful day all. Be kind to yourself and others. -

Wow, I haven’t posted in a bit. I hope everyone is doing well. I’ve had a lot of thoughtful considerations since my last post. Some of them upsetting and really questioning. However I’ll post more about it after I’ve been for a walk. My first walk in a very long time. I’m sweating before I’ve even started, which gets me feeling negatively towards myself. But f&$k it, I’m going for a short walk and I’ll survive. Its confronting how unfit I am. I really hope all April sleevers pre and post op are doing ok. Big hugs to anyone in pain or scared. I also know this is the right thing I’ve chosen to do. It’s only the beginning and I will improve physically, mentally and emotionally. Today is one day I have to make choices towards my goals. And I’ll need to write some down later so I know what I’m achieving even when it isn’t weight loss. Much love. -

Good Morning here on Monday. I’m travelling well. Slept ok last night. Small amount of pain at incision sites and upper abdominal pain probably from pushing up on it in surgery. I weighed in this morning and I’m down... HW : 310.2 SD : 293.3 CW : 288.6 -4.7 lbs since surgery! Surprising! It’s all happening. -

So my before weight at its highest was: 310.2 Highest weight - Jan, 19. 293.3 Morning of Surgery - 10/4/19 294.4 4 days after surgery - 14/4/19 So I’m up a little since the morning of surgery. Can’t wait to see it going down! So inspired by people on here and the steps they are taking. Also inspired by a few Instagram wls people and following some who have achieved their goals and others who are closer in surgery date like we all are. I’m clearly having a very happy and excited day for us all! I’ve been hiding at home and not living and feel relieved at the prospect of being more confident, social and who I really am again. The last four years have been my hardest and taken a massive toll on me and it feels so amazing to finally see a big light at the end of the tunnel. I’ll keep the feeling of this day to remember when it gets tougher later on or things are slow or there’s disappointment. Thanks for bearing with me while I’m sharing my feelings. -

Thank you. And yes I believe my incision sites have stitches and glue. I’m so excited to get to a few more weeks down the track. And to see how everyone else is going at the same time. It’s such a comfort having this group of people all doing the same thing. 😊 Especially can’t wait to do some single serve cooking of savoury muffins and have them in the freezer. I’ve never been much of a cook. But I’m really wanting to be prepared and to really enjoy the food I do eat from now on. (Whereas before there was a lot of guilt and worrying about having enough or too much) There are so many wonderful success stories, I can’t believe I’m about to go through the same. Until it happens I can’t believe it’s real. -

Yes, they gave me some of that tape in hospital before I left. Thank you for your help. I’m going to also ring the surgery tomorrow and ask. Can’t wait to wash my hair! I hope you are doing well. -

Good luck! It will go quick. I’m still in a little shock that it’s all happened and yet so excited to be on this journey. I can remember the two weeks before feeling like forever. -

@TxStar09 My 5 incision sites are covered in steri strips. But they look like water can soak through them. I know at hospital they wanted me to have a shower but I just sponged there too as I had the IV still in my hand. Seemed all too much to juggle. I don’t mean to sound too worried or negative. Just curious and not wanting any infection. I hope everyone is doing super well. Love & hugs to all. -

Hi all, I’m concerned about having a shower. How do you NOT get the 5 incision sites wet??? So without sounding gross, I have been having a sponge clean/bath (not in the bath) Definitely worried about the drain site, as the bandage over that is a thick cloth one. I so hope they all heal well with no infection!!! Otherwise got home yesterday. Sipping away on Optifast shakes and protein water. -

Yikes, well the water test is here. 30mls in the first hour. 60mls in the 2nd hour. 90mls in the 3rd hour. If all goes well they will give me the clear liquid dinner. So I hope it’s all ok. 😊 -

Hi all, thought I’d check in. I had a swallow test this morning at 8.40am. Was told they’d have results by 12noon and they would then let me start to sip fluids. But it’s now 4pm. I’m hoping I get to sip something soon!!! I’m also going home tomorrow if all goes well. Feel a bit nervous about whether they’ll be anything wrong or just difficult about sipping fluid, will it hurt my stomach. A little bit tender where the incisions are. My drain is still in. Much love to all, I hope everyone is ok. I think I’m feeling a bit sad waiting. I am ok though. -

How is everyone doing? I’m fine here! Only bit of tiny gas pain in my shoulder. I’m still on oxygen, have compression stockings and massage wraps around my calf muscles. Easy breezy so far. I have a swallow X-ray tomorrow and then Friday allowed to have fluids. (Currently on IV) Be well everyone xo -

Doing all ok here. On pain meds from an IV. Compression socks on. And also these calf wraps that massage. Just feel tired. I also have oxygen. I’m so grateful for this forum and all the lovely people on who have shared, to the women who have also shared on instagram & YouTube. I feel blessed to have had that as a support to inform me. I hope everyone is doing great. Sending everyone much love, support and whatever it is you need. We can all do this, this has given me hope for great change to make life so much better. I can feel happiness sifting in. Things will be difficult but no matter what challenges lay ahead, we can all do this step by step. It’s a big thing we’ve all made the decision to do to help ourselves. My weigh in at surgery was 293.3 so down. Night night everyone. 😊☺️🤩 -
