I follow a guy on YouTube who finds healthy (he’s a bit picky) stuff at grocery stores and recommends what to get and why. His channel name is cringey (flavcity) but I’ve found some good stuff. Aldi (sorry @ms.sss ) has a new product. Green lentil lasagna noodles. I hate lasagna but it looked like a great choice! Aldi pasta -
Preop weight loss-too much?

1200 calories is way too high. That’s a normal diet on Weight Watchers. I don’t understand some nutritionists. I maintain on about 1350-1400 a day -

Favorite protein bars?

The Kirkland ones from Costco are my favorite. They have less extra crud in them than others but taste like they do! The cookie dough is fantastic. Robert Irvine’s are tasty, kind of too sweet for me, and they have some additives that aren’t great. I have those on occasion. I’ll see if I can find the YouTube video about this subject. -
Preop weight loss-too much?
Cheeseburgh replied to blackcatsandbaddecisions's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Ann777 Here are my numbers 3-4 months post surgery. I lost 33 pounds in the first 4 months. You lost 32 so yep we are close. Instead of throwing in the towel, I tightened up my diet (less processed food, less calories) and started posting/lurking here. I still lost weight slow, and it came to a screeching halt around 6 months so I joined a gym and increased my activity level while still averaging 700-800 calories a day. It got crazy frustrating but I refused to give up. Logic kept nagging and reassuring me. I knew with the calorie deficit I was maintaining I was going to lose weight at some point. I’m a stubborn person, I didn’t even indulge and go over 900 calories that I recall. Heads up, I just recalled that a medication I was on for high blood pressure during half that year is notorious for slowing your metabolism. It’s a beta blocker, Metoprolol, (although there are many drugs in that family) I researched it and asked to get switched to a new med. (unfortunately my blood pressure isn’t tied to my weight) getting off that medication and switching to a different one helped me a lot too. It paid off, I’m into year 2 of post op and so far it’s second nature for me to be mindful of what I eat and I stay super active. -
Preop weight loss-too much?

Yes indeed. I copied and pasted this from another thread 9/10.I’ll follow up with more details later. I never did the math on this before. 8/18-8/19 I lost an average of 6.1 pounds per month. I had surgery at 204 and I lost s.l.o.w. I think one month I only lost 2-3 pounds eating less than 900 calories a day. I did lose it though! -

Major splurge today. Thai rolled ice cream. This was banana, Nutella and it was sooo good. I ate 1/4 of it, although I could have polished it off! Before, (minus 2 bites) and after. My son gladly finished the rest! -
Metabolism post WLS

Everyone is different. Dr. Wiener on YouTube has great videos explaining set point etc. The “average” calorie crud we have heard people drone about for years is ridiculous. Once I hit my mid 40’s early 50’s my metabolism flipped. It took me a year of eating 500-700 then 700-900 calories a day to get to my goal. (Post sleeve surgery) I now stick close to 1500 because I’m very active, if I let up and take a few days off I have to cut my calories closer to 1350. My metabolism improved a great deal, I’ts not what it was when I was in my 20’s but I can splurge now and then and be ok. I think being active helps more than anything else. -
Two processed carbs that really helped me during weight loss phase. 1. Wonton wrappers. 3 wrappers are 60 calories and 12 carbs. Spray a muffin tin with Pam and make cups with them. I forget, but you bake them at 375 for xyz minutes. (Recipes all over internet) I put stir fry, or sugar free pudding, chunky applesauce and even have made pizza cups with these. Number 2 Was my go to and kept me sane. And my main processed carb. Good old store bought hard taco shells. 2 shells are 93 calories with 12 carbs. Brands vary, so check labels. I fill with 96% lean ground beef, dry taco season mix and veggies. I swear I ate this 6 meals a week (lunch/dinner) for a year. I still make it, just not as often. 3 oz of the meat with 2 taco shells is only 198 calories. I’d break them up and make a taco salad too. Hope that helps you!

Preop weight loss-too much?

My insurance went by first (highest) weight also. I qualified by 1 or 2 pounds. I was encouraged to lose weight before surgery and lost 23 pounds (4 months) by my surgery date. It makes sense, you adapt your eating habits and get mentally prepared. I have read some insurance plans require you are above the magic BMI number. I’d check to be sure. -
I can’t live carbless, just not in my DNA. I ate very little processed carbs during my weight loss phase, but I did have some. I’ve been at my goal weight for over a year and I do eat bread, rice, crackers etc.. I eat less of it and avoid carbs that I know I’ll go to town on like potatoes, or popcorn...although, I have let a little potato back in my life, I just save that for special occasions. I feel like I have a regular diet, I stick to 1350-1500 calories a day depending on how active I am and it includes carbs every single day.

I made a variation of chicken satay (cucumbers and pineapple) with peanut sauce, it turned out great. I didn’t eat the rice. It is microwave brown and wild rice minute rice. It is horrible with Asian flavors. I like it with American food though. The peanut sauce was super good too. I’ll make this again but tweak some stuff. -

This was so good. Smoked pork Loin, then grilled. Prior to smoking it was marinating 48 hours with Frontera carnitas marinade. I don’t have any after pictures. 4 oz was only 150 calories or so. Served it with grilled veggies and tortillas. -

Let’s see: ”My lifetime goal is to be on America’s Next Top Model, the producers of the show informed me that I’d have to lose weight to achieve that goal.” “My car broke down (or repo’d) a few months ago, so I’ve been walking to and from work everyday.” ”I developed a fast food allergy “ ”I burned my mouth so severely on a hot pocket ,I couldn’t eat for months.”
