body jewelry :o
One4you2belike replied to KristyLynn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It depends on the area of the body and the hospital. I had knee surgery and did not have to take out any of my piercings. For the lapband I had to take them ALL out... the electric current they use can cause burns if it archs and hits the metal. better safe than sorry. -
Changing your 'mind' after lap band?
One4you2belike posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was wondering if anyone else struggles on the weekends? I am almost 5 wks post surgery and would do it again in a minute but I seem to struggle on the weekends. This was true when I had tried every diet under the sun previous to the lap band. How do you change your "mind" and the way of thinking about food? How do you start thinking with your tummy and not your emotions/head? I feel as though I need to eat more on the weekends and I need to learn how to change the way I think.. I know it is just an old habit.. any suggestions would be much appreciated... Thanks... -

Would you do it again?
One4you2belike replied to SeeShell's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I would do it again. My insurance did not cover my surgery and the next day I had internal bleeding and had an additional 4 hour surgery, blood transfusions and a trip to the ICU.. with all that - I say YES to the band... -
Mine was scheduled for about that long - I had to do several true false 'tests'. it all depends on how quickly you do them I suppose. They were the standar psych tests. There was maybe a 30 minute interview with the shrink - asked basic questions did a couple memory things, had be draw a picture he showed to make sure I could connect the lines etc. There was a 72 question test - that had to do with food. other than that it was a breeze...

My surgery experience. Would I do it again?
One4you2belike posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on April 16th. Surgery went well. I was so excited. I was taken to my room for my overnight stay... Thru out the night I got up, did my walking but noticed I was having a lot of pain, not port pain as most describe but pain on my right side. I tried to get up again to walk at 5:00 a.m. but my ears were ringing so bad I was soooo dizzy - I went back to lay down. Another hour had gone by and the pressure on my right side was horrible, I was having trouble breathing. Then all of a sudden my monitors started going off and my blood pressure dropped to 50/45 - It felt as though I was having spasms on my right side. My doctor had JUST come in to check on his surgery patients. He and the nurse promptly called ICU and the 'crash cart' - WOW do you know how scarey that is???? By this time I was in tears and asking them to call my husband. It was so hard to breathe. Outside the door to my room was filled with nurses from the ICU, student nurses etc. They took me for a CAT scan and discovered I had internal bleeding. Apparently 95 some percent of the people have arteries structured the same way - I am in the 5% that have to be different - There was an artery in my muscle that was cut during surgery. I lost a LOT of blood - ended up back in surgery and received blood transfusions and an additional overnight stay in the ICU. With all this said, I am not trying to scare anyone just one of the little things that can go wrong. Would I do it again? YES, YES YES... My doctor was wonderful and attentive and listened to me when I told him something was wrong.. If I had been in outpatient I would have died. Of course the only thing I was really worried about was how I was going to pay for the additional surgery since I was a self-pay patient. My doctor said he would waive his 2nd surgery fee. We shall see what happens with the rest... Thanks for listening.... -

Yes, everything is good now... I have had minimal port pain which compared to others is GREAT.... The right side (since I had two surgeries) is still the most tender. Thanks for asking.. I appreciate it.. Now if I could get my head around not blowing what I eat on the weekends... -
Can't stop eating!

I was wondering if anyone else struggles on the weekends? I do great during the week but the weekend I feel hungry and grab things I should not. I know it is partly from being bored. But old habits die hard. Pre-banding this was my way as well - diet during the week and do great - the wknd would come and I would blow it. How do you retrain your mind? If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them. Tips, tricks - anything... I didn't go thru all this to continually blow it on the wknds... I am 4 wks post op and have lost 25lbs... I love this forum... I found it prior to my surgery and have checked it daily since.... thanks everyone for the great thoughts, encouragement and information.
