June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
djgirl19 replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lol me too😕 I didn’t have to do a pre op liquid diet at all except the day before surgery. I don’t know how some of these guys lasted 4-6 weeks on clears and liquid. I’m impressed. They told me I would go from clear to full liquid when I was discharged then do liquids a week then purée. After surgery they told me they’re changing the plan to 2 weeks of full liquid. I wasn’t mentally prepared for 2 weeks😂 -

Ok so I was sleeved 6/4. You sound just like me. I only took two nausea pills after I left the hospital. Had no issue with fluids. Took me about 5 days and by 1 week I felt great. Only issue I’m having is mental bc I’m tired of a liquid diet. -

I will go look for them. I thought Walmart carried the Premier clear but they didn’t have any. What’s the best place everyone is finding variety? I bought a ton of yogurt, soups and sugar free pudding. I’m so ready for my next step. I’ve been lucky I guess. Had very little nausea. No vomiting. Just some tightness when I go a little fast. Just some pain in my incisions LOL I have follow up Friday. -

I did. I’ve had no issue hitting fluids from the beginning. I’m struggling with choking down the Protein Shakes but I’m trying to get to 60-70 every day and making it. Need to go buy the clear drinks today because shakes are too sweet and thick right now. Can not wait to be able to chew something again🙄 I thought I was about to lose my mind with hunger two days ago and I made grits bc they were on my list. I ate too many a little too fast was too full to eat anything for 12 hours and still don’t really feel that hunger again two days later. I didn’t get sick but I got a great preview of what to expect later. -
5 days post op—the things they did not tell me

Yes the shakes are not my fave. But it’s the artificial sweetener aftertaste that is constant in my mouth right now that’s killing me. I’ve been doing blended shakes to make them more drinkable but I can’t wait to have some better options bc sweets are not my thing and fake sweets are definitely not! Counting the days, which feel long but really aren’t. -
I was sleeved on 6/4 and was given coffee the next morning. I only had a few sips and still don’t finish a whole cup but I’m only 5-6 days in and have had a little every day.

5 days post op—the things they did not tell me

Hey! I’m in the exact same boat and was sleeved on 6/4...lol! I woke up thinking I was dying. LOL a few drugs later and about 8 more hours and I was ok. I literally had a few dreams about biting into food I was so hungry. While liquids helped for awhile I’m now super hungry again and dreaming of cottage cheese and egg. Protein shakes, soup and yogurt are not doing it now. Im super hydrated. This girl wants food. And the overkill of artificial sweeteners is a little much. It’s in everything but the broth. Can’t wait for a little variety. I have another week to go. -
I lost a lot of weight earlier in life and went through these same feelings. I was so hurt at how I was treated differently by people who I always cared about. They seemed to like me more when there was “less to like.” I got attention from men that I wasn’t used to getting. People talked to me that had never given me the time of day and I was bitter. What crutch did I want to turn to when I went through those emotions? Food, of course. It was really a frustrating paradox.

That’s what I’m most looking forward to. Taking my kid on some rides at the amusement park. I won’t try right now bc I don’t want to be told I don’t fit and feel ashamed. -
Drank 10 oz of a protien shake!
djgirl19 replied to Fazzini Bee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just searched this because I had VSG Tuesday and have struggled with tightness when I tried eating/drinking anything, but just now realized i fairly quickly sucked down what was maybe 6 oz of protein shake and wondered if I was really going to regret it. No pain so far but I feel a little gurgling down there. It tasted good bc I was hungry and before I knew it, I drank 2-3x more than what had been “normal” since surgery. I was starting to panic myself a little that I was going to split my staples. -

So I’m in my room and Doing ok. Woke up in a LOT of pain. They won’t let me get up and walk and I am a little annoyed. I’m also nodding off when I am trying to type. Good luck everyone on the schedule tomorrow or this week New me is ready to rock and roll. -

So initially they said I had a 70 dollar copay. Then I said “oh ok forget it then, my dr said they thought it would be free or almost free and they said I could use Centrum chewables which cost like 5 bucks, so you do the math...lol.” The lady laughed and agreed with me and then said “hold on” a minute and then came back and told me that my copay would be covered. Lol. Sooooo I would say if you let them know your doc expected you to have no copay but gave you a cheap alternative, they will accommodate. As someone who has worked in sales a very long time it may be worth the expense to them to keep his or her business as a prescribing dr. -
Good luck! My surgery is today and it’s already been a very long journey, but what sticks out most to me is how many people say they wish they had done this sooner.

So I have Nutrition Direct set up via a nascobal prescription from my doctor and I get all my vitamins and supplements shipped to me free. Then if there’s anything I can’t take after surgery I will try other options but free is tough to beat. I’d ask your dr or look them up. No copay, etc. -

I sure will. One more surgery shower and a ride to the hospital. My husband and sister both asked if I was sure about this tonight. Nothing like poking the bear here at the last minute. -

Welcome! June is the best group. Just sayin. I talked to admissions today because I got a z pack this morning for my throat. She said I should still plan on being there. As of now I go in at 9am tomorrow for 11:15 showtime. chicken or beef broth as my last meal? Maybe a couple popsicles. LOL. I was laughing at one of my last splurges at Olive Garden with a friend. I felt like I was eating like I was headed to the chair. LMAO -

I’ve been fighting one for over a week. Was doing better but this morning my throat was pretty sore. I have to call in the morning to see what the surgeons office says. I don’t feel all that bad but I do have spots back there so I may need antibiotics. If this postpones me I’m going to be so annoyed. -
Wonderful!! Congrats

Had my final tests and class before surgery today. Now I wait for my call Monday night to tell me when my surgery is on Tuesday. Can’t believe I made it here. This time next week I will have a new belly. -

Oh no-I’m glad I’m not the only one but I’m also sorry you’re in the same boat. I think the drinking issue is a choice made by the patient, not the surgeon’s issue. I’m sure they were told not to drink. My instructions on that were pretty clear. They don’t want us drinking at all first year. And not more than an occasional drink after. It may be hard but I think for me it will be harder to know I can’t ever eat an entire sandwich again😂 I mean if I am satisfied, maybe it will be ok. It’s just hard to imagine I will ever feel satisfied from a quarter cup of food. And knowing I can’t really have sugar anymore is a little scary. I’m trying really hard to like fake sweeteners though. Lol -

Guys, they called from pre-admission to schedule my pre class and final tests today and I panicked a little. Maybe because I just realized I am 12 days(almost 11) away and that eating is literally about to stop. 🤣 I guess it’s just getting really real now and I’ve been talking about this so long I feel like maybe a part of me thought I would never get here. Is anyone else panicking a little here in the 11th hour? I’m afraid I’m going to break the rules, hurt myself or worst of all, not lose weight. -

Yea my surgeon made the comment that 50% of people who start the journey don’t make it to where we are. So if you’re doubting yourself right now, chew on that. It actually really boosted me from my doubts. I can do this. We can do this. We all want it and want success and a healthier life. -

It’s so strange how different surgeons are. I don’t have a pre op diet at all but will be making as many good choices as possible with a few last “treats” off and on. Things I know I won’t be eating again or for a long time. The good thing is I have been following the protein first rule for a loooooong time now so I’m starting to crave protein more and more. I’m having a hard time believing this is happening in a few weeks.
